Was it a good decision to stream it on 1080p?

After watching the 4k screenshot's and trailers it hit me that with most people watching PS5 event they won't realise how good the game's will actually look on their PS5.
Should they have delayed the show for 4k or was 1080p enough?

Delayed for how long? It is jarring how much better these games look in 4K trailers. Same thing happened with the May inside Xbox

Not everyone can stream stuff at 4k/60fps.

Sure, that option would have been nice, but in the wake of a pandemic, it was probably a wise decision imo. A lot of people seem to forget that many of Sony's fanbase live in countries with unstable internet connection (like mine! And many of us woke up at 4 AM to watch the reveal)

Streaming quality don't matter really. And we are gonna have buffering forever. A flaw no one will ever figure out how to fix.

How would having a delay make the stream in 4K. The stream barely held steady at 1080p for most people regardless of their internet speed. Can twitch and youtube even stream at 4k?

How many people actually have 4k tv's/monitors compared to 1080p? I would have guessed sweet fuck all comparatively but I actually don't know.

Doesnt matter. People can see 4K and gaming media will be combing over that vs the initial stream.

I don't think most people would've streamed it in 4k60 anyway.

They can always see the trailer later - and they eventually will. We still have a long time until these consoles launch.

For how many viewers there surely were (over a million on twitch), streaming at 1080p, 30fps was probably the right call. My twitch stream even hitched as Horizon was being shown.

I watched it live and the whole time I was thinking, "Yeah its only 1080p on YouTube right now, if course it'll look better on an actual PS5 and a 4k TV". So yeah, I was a bit disappointed. I should have just waited and watched the uploaded trailers later on.

I don't fucking care, with my wifi connection twitch will fall to mobile stream speeds, and the trailers are out in higher quality anyway.

It doesn't matter, almost everyone had their minds blown up with what was shown in 1080P.
And the Stream miraculously did not crash (at least with me), so it's fine the way it was.

The timing was too perfect, everyone was basically looking forward to see next gen and the numbers showed it. Delaying it wouldn't have been worth it

I feel this is the third thread post-conference on the stream quality lol.

twitch held up for me, and 4K was available immediately after the show.

seemed like a perfect decision to me.

I mean obviously it would have been better at a higher resolution and frame-rate, but it was good enough and the main thing is that the 4K trailers are available now.

Delay? The 4K trailers are up right now?

The decision to make it 1080p was probably to make the stream as stable as possible since they were expecting a massive audience.

It was fine as is. The show already showed it was professional looking by not looking like they shot interviews with a potato cam.

I don't see how a delay changes anything, but they absolutely should have not relied on Twitch and Youtube. A smart thing to do would have been to make a PS4 application to stream the feed in 4k on a PS4 pro, but Sony is gonna Sony I guess.

There was 2 million ppl watching this live at the same time on Youtube (English) and the moment the PS5 was shown the stream crapped itself. Rest of presentation i didnt had any problems but i guess doing it at 4k would have caused much more problems.

My stream looked terrible. Watching the trailers in 4K made a night and day difference.

It should have been 4K but it wouldn't be worth a huge delay

I really don't understand why they weren't able to do a 4K stream.

Twitch does not have bitrate limits high enough to allow for a high quality 4k 60fps stream so no. It wouldn't even happen at all. You would end up with even more artifacting.

Reality is most people do not have the hardware or the internet to watch stuff at 4K, so it matters very, very little. And anyone can still watch everything at 4K afterwards if that's really important to them.

4K trailers are up for anyone who wants to see them. Also delaying it until they can record it entirely in 4K could mean delaying it for as long as Covid restrictions are in place.

The 1080p stream was so low bitrate there was no discernable difference from current gen, and what's worse, an overwhelming majority of people actually watched it in 720p cause that's still what Youtube defaults to. There's no doubt most people walked away with a very negative impression of "next-gen" visuals based solely on the stream, the 4K trailers are worlds apart. They might as well have unveiled all those games in 240p on Quibi cause that dog shit stream wasn't representative at all.

4k wouldnt have mattered, because the bitrate wouldnt have been good anyway.

If they wanted to release the whole thing as huge multi gig file in 4k60 as well as stream it, then that would be cool.

Streaming 4k still wouldn't do the games justice, it would be crazy to delay for that
