It's been almost three years since FFXV's release. Although the fervent fandom has deduced possible business divisions and key personnel that could be helming the next mainline Final Fantasy, it's certainly been mum's-the-word whilst Kingdom Hearts 3 and now FFVII Part 1 rightfully take the spotlight.

This is the longest the franchise has ever gone without the announcement of a new title. While it can be argued that not announcing XVI ages in advance is the smart move given Square's... checkered history with project length — and indeed, mostly I agree — I'm still beginning to wonder just when the heck we'll get the scoop.

What say you, EducatedGuessEra?

I expect to wait a long time, even if 16 is announced...……….I expect it to go through Dev hell or a good dev length much like KH3 and XV

2022 at the earliest. I imagine one of their others business divisions will head up the starting development.

Sometime next year. Not sure where the doubt is coming from, people realize Square has different teams right? They aren't exactly the type to shy away from reveals years away from release.

I'm thinking next E3 and also a very small teaser for VII part 2. They have more than one team and I'll be surprised if they expect to coast by next e3 without anything to announce.

The XIV division is hiring for a next gen AAA project helmed by the Heavensward leads, that's clearly XVI. VII Remake is a completely different division and shouldn't impact the project.

They said in an interview they consider it as the next numbered game. So not before it's finished.

Concentrate on FFVII. All hands on deck.

That said if I were to guess, it will not be before Remake II.

FFVII and PS5 coming next year.

So E3 2021 is almost a safe bet for official announcement.

But I don't see it being released till a year after FFVII-2.

Honestly I don't trust Square to make an original FF so I don't care that much, hell, I wasn't even sure they could nail this game, in fact I was sure they were gonna botch it (they still can).

I'm fully invested in remake.

Obviously, FFVIIr is going to go into development hell then Nomura will show up on stage at E3 next year and reveal
that since they are changing so much about the game anyway they decided to just rebrand it as FFXVI.

It's like poetry.

Around PS5s launch.
And then it wont actually materialize until near the end of the PS5
And these jackasses will prob name Nomura director for that too instead of giving new blood or wasted veterans a shot.
YoshiP plz!

Don't know why the two are necessarily correlated, like, SE has different dev teams lol

I can see the reveal being next year actually

I'm going to go with 2023 but may just be even longer for it. I'm expecting it to completely miss the ps5 with maybe showing a little bit of a teaser of it and release on the ps6.

The FF14 Realm Reborn main team was moved over to work on FF16 after the release of the first expansion Heavensward in 2015. Yoshida is producing but we don't know the director yet. Some speculate that it might be Matsuno since Yoshida has been getting really friendly with him the last few years and had him design the Alliance Raid for Stormblood. I could see the release being 2021.

Really hoping that's YoshiP's studio handling it. But at this point I would like a mainline FF game without any production mess.

The order will probably be VII Remake - XVI - VII Remake 2. It really seens that XVI is in development for years now by the former FF XIV team.

Does square have different teams working on mainline FFs and FF VII Remake? If not, I can see them only releasing/working on FF VII Remake on PS5. XVI will probably be on PS6.

Between FFVII-R, the new IP from Luminous Studio, FFXVI and someone is probably trying to make Kingdom hearts 4 happen. Square could have themselves a heck of a generation.

Waiting for the "Tyrant /Emperor Penultimate Final Fantasy 15 Edition" with all the content. Then I can move along and be hyped for the next.

As much as I would love that I don't see that happening. Most of Squares problems with developing mainline Final Fantasy's started with Matsuno on XII.

Knowing Square they will have a Trailer on disc with FFVIIR and then it becomes vaporware for the next ten years.
Hell they could shadowdrop a reveal tomorrow and I wouldn't be surprised.
But the game itself playable in our homes?
Long time.
On the other hand Kingdom Hearts 3 didn't take long after they finally started developing.
They just needed to start.
I trust their smaller projects more.
