Will Worms Rumble Blow Up Like Rocket League/Fall Guys?

Rocket League and Fall Guys were both free on Plus day one along with a paid PC version, they became overnight hits. Worms Rumble is the same offering - free on Plus day one for PS5/PS4 and a paid PC version. Is Worms Rumble going to be the next big thing?

No. As much as I hate shitting on games, it's got WAY too much going on, is absolutely not readable in motion, has far too extensive, but useless backgrounds blurring into a mess and conceptually brings absolutely nothing new to the table. This will come out and will immediately be forgotten, only because someone thinks it's a good idea to cling onto a franchise of a gazillion parts and spinoffs that only did really well years and years ago when there was nothing like it.

Yes, it will. But you have to do a couple of tweaks first:

- Discard this game completely.
- Give Worms Armageddon instead.
- Change the definition of "blow up like Rocket League" to "make Joey happy".

Boom.

'Free on Plus' isn't the golden goose for making hits. Rocket League and Fall Guys blew up because they were amazing. Plus availability sure helped them grow and grow but it's no given.

I'm interested to give Rumble a try but it looks like the opposite of what I want out of a Worms game. It looks terrible.

The ongoing current big thing is Among Us which came out in 2018 and only got discovered in 2020 (in the west). You're more likely to find another among us buried in the mobile/steam store from years ago then look at an upcoming game and say "that one".

Being on PS+ day one is an opportunity but you still need to deliver something good and unique. That was the case for Rocket League and Fall Guys, and is not for Worms.

Worms 4 was the best Worms I've played and I heard the rerelase improved it further

Thats why I said "with someone else" since it was rare for me to find any matches without them. I played solo without them

Sidescrolling shooters that aren't Soldat (read free) seem doomed from the start. The Showdown Effect was super fun but had a super small community from the start and now nobody even remembers that game (being delisted seems like the inevitable future of any multiplayer game published by paradox but that's getting off topic). I don't think being free on ps plus will save worms.
