I know the people in this thread aren't the problem, the people in this thread while criticizing designs try to see the character underneath. It's okay to criticize the design, you can say the character looks like a stripper or a sex doll before simply crossing the line into mysogony, It's when you start saying the characters are strippers and sex dolls ignoring the character you in my opinion crossed the from simple criticisms to mysogony, atleast for me. am i wrong to feel this?
You are right and you should not be afraid to say it. Especially with how videogame development works it often happens that the person that creates the design of a character, the person who creates the personality of a character and the person that creates the plot are completely different and may have different morals and ideas of how the character should be treated.
In this topic it was repeated time after time that a fictional character can't actually choose to dress a certain way. By the same logic, every single character including Pyra and Mythra are being forced to dress a certain way by the developers, or in games with character customization, by the player.
It's perfectly fine to say "I couldn't take Velvet seriously because of what she wears".
It's another thing to assume her personality based on what she wears. That's mysoginy. The character isn't real, she doesn't have feeling and you can't slut shame a drawing, but if you assume certain things about a woman (even if fictional) because of how she dresses that says a lot about you, imho.
I don't think anyone that regularly posts here has ever attacked the character directly, but always the skeevy developers.
We are able to separate design from characterization. If people made a big deal about wanting Pyra to have a better design in Smash it must mean that her personality isn't what's seen as problematic. With a different design they would have zero problems with her.
