I'm surprised posters would admit not only that they played the uncensored version of the game but that they enjoyed it too. One person even claims it's their favourite VN. I mean... what!?

Also some of the posters are acting as if the mods are the secret police and telling the OP to take their post to another website. God forbid resetera censors discussion of pedophilia. /s
Yeah, there is a DEPRESSING amount of "The EVIL MODS here frown on PEDOPHILIA for NO REASON!!!! Go post at Reddit, where we embrace it."

Except for some reason they avoid outright saying what it is the mods frown on. HUH. WEIRD.

'Funny' how the "cleaned" version of the game can't get away from creepy discussions.

Urobuchi's work can be Mohiro Kitoh levels of vile and yet people at best make merely cheeky references to it. Reply #14 (major content warning) in that thread about sums up how horrible Saya no Uta is in addition to the pedophilia.

She even confirmed to be in the game? With some of these things I just assume that it's just a vertical slice, but she looked great.
The mystery woman? Yeah, she's definitely part of the game. They're just being really secretive about what her role is.
Here's a reminder that we actually barely knew anything about The Last of Us' plot or any of the characters going in. It's only post release people even knew what the game was about beyond "old dude + young girl + zombies" and the general tenor of discussions was "Welp, which one of them is going to die because one of them has to?" It's a testament to the game that the answer was a lot more interesting than that.

And we won't know shit all about TLoU2 until it too releases.

Lots of speculation is that she'll be another playable character since her cutscene seems to be in a different "time" than the rest of what we've seen so far.

Which would honestly be pretty great. Ellie with the occasional chapter of mystery woman interspersed throughout would be nice, especially if they play differently.

If Ellie's Mom is equivalent to Ellie in TLoU that would be super neat.

...But I have a feeling they're going to try to expand this one a little wider. Like, Ellie's going to be the main character and most of the playtime, but I'm guessing they'll have you play as this other woman, Joel, and maybe someone else over the course of the game, all in little bits.

Uh I liked Saya no Uta back then and surely the reason I like it are not the cthulhu abomination that main character mistook for granted look like underaged girl.

Its will be like you seen people as fucked up if they say they liking Stephen King's IT. Because you know the ending of that book.

It's annoying how people keep praising it because like it's 99% exploitative shock.
I think to a lot of people the exploitative shock is the point. We're talking about the same writer who's partly responsible the genre about girls becoming magical superheroes spinning off to really be about girls suffering.

To be absolutely fair, shows like Revolutionary Girl Utena and even Sailor Moon did love putting their main character through the ringer even before it was exploited for perverts.

...Wait this is the same guy who made Nanoha or the one who did Magica?

...Wait did we accidentally make this about anime again!?!

I'm playing Resident Evil 4 for the first time and the camera sure does lingering up Ashley's skirt during cut scenes. Can't tell you how many times Ashley jumps off a ledge into Leon's arm and you see a flash of her undies.
I haven't played RE4 in a very long time so I don't remember any of that clearly, but I do recall this:

I've been watching the Retro Replays of it and I have the feeling that it's Troy's favorite game that he's ever worked on. That and probably Uncharted 4.

I actually like Madoka Magica a good deal, and it's really nowhere as bad as the edgier shit that was produced after its success. Regarding Saya no Uta, I'm never touching that game with a thirty foot pool.

Urobuchi is a writer who has literally gone from the obscurity of working on pornographic games to the heights of international fame and critical success with Fate/Zero and Madoka, yet it's difficult to forget he has long been associated with creepy and problematic content, including but not limited to poor depictions of women (a number of them tend to either suffer or die in particularly cruel ways). While it shouldn't mean there can't be any serious discussions about the merits of his writing, I think it's absolutely fair to be disgusted or grossed out by some of the aspects found in his projects.

Does that game even have anything to say about pedophilia or is it one of those games that just includes it for the edge?

I think fans of such games forget that artistic value is judged by the material itself, not the tone of the material.

And Fate Zero also has a scene with, to avoid going into too much detail, severe abuse of a four year old girl.

Did I misread this thread or did I just learn that the guy who created Saya No Uta is the same kind who created Madoka?

EDIT: Shit, he wrote it.

And Fate/Zero?

And Psycho-Pass!?

Nope, it's absolutely correct.

How did the Fate franchise get popular when it seems like not even the fans like half the shit that comes out

*googles and finds like 10 billion+ images of porn*

...ah.

I believe it's a mix of things. People liked how the lore combined history and mythology with magic, which gets pretty crazy yet is kind of impressive, and also grew fond of the characters (not only due to the porn, which they've at least cut from subsequent adaptations and re-releases). Honestly, at this point, there's two main driving factors behind why it keeps being so popular: Fate/Zero began a string of successful anime adaptations and Fate Grand Order, the gacha game with all the waifus/husbandos, is an even more huge hit.

EDIT:

I don't want to derail the thread, if at all possible, but to address this next bit...

The porn was horrible, and not even written by the creator i believe. Can't even see people getting into fate based on that.

Probably not, although its badness became something of a meme (plus they replaced it with a hilariously dumb 3D monster in the older, lower-budget anime).

Fate/Zero is legit good. It's one of those anime I'd actually recommend to people who don't normally watch anime. One reason being it avoids all those typical high school anime tropes.

UBW and HF are also good based on your tolerance for those very same tropes (particularly regarding Sakura).

Oh is Fate one of those VNs that was originally planned as a regular story all along and they had to put the porn in just to get the initial release produced?

Hey, wanna know an Urobuchi production free from gross stuff and coincidentally friggin' awesome?

The best thing he's ever done. Don't @ me.

It's like a JRPG adventure... except most the hero party is actually a bunch of assholes with ulterior motives and nothing is quite as straightforward as it seems.

People may not get into Fate for in game porn but horniness is absolutely a factor when you get designs like Shuten Doji, Artoria Lancer, etc after the series abandoned it's hentai roots.
latest

The first one is a Caster servant design from the original VN that had hentai to sell it and the later one is from the T rated mobile game.

Since some people talked about that Steam game of a underage character and Lovecraft the mobile game also tackles into that with a servant design.

From what I've heard the NA version of the game replaced the "12 year old girl" fact on her profile with "young girl".

A blight on an otherwise good series. They really should have cut that unless it was mandated by Type-Moon. (Though in reality, I imagine the director and writers thought it was fine. *sigh*) The funny thing is Urobuchi didn't even work on the anime adaptation of Fate/Zero aside from supervising the scripts.

Any thoughts on an ad-hoc best/worst female character designs of the decade?

Any such thread would be filled with things people considered "unattractive" while any scantily clad woman would be greeted with cries on how great the design was unfortunately. As for the decade...hm, honestly like 96% of the female blades in XC2 would fill a good chunk of it.

Are we talking AAA/non-indie games only?

I wasn't really thinking about a full-blown thread with rules/restrictions or anything, just impromptu opinions from the thread regulars.

I'd say the best design was Ana from overwatch, best balance between being a different character(60 year old sniper ffs) and yet still looking amazing despite not being a traditional beauty, she was a pretty bold choice at the time despite having her younger versions in game >_>

Pretty easy making young women gladiators but mixing that grandma look with seasoned soldier is quite a challenge imo

Would need to think on worst designs, probably flesh pit mileena from mk 9

My favorite design of the decade is the new boots-pants-tanktops combo.
Just for the fact that it makes people so stupidly angry.

I mean for best I can easily say:
Aloy
Frost
Skarlet
Cassie Cage
Nadine Ross
Chloe Fraser
Talanah and Vanesha from HZD
Most recent Lara Croft
Makoto Nijima
Sae Nijima
Tae Takemi
War Chief Sona
Jesse Faden
And this is just off the top of my head, I'm sure there's a ton.
Worst list has to be longer though since I'm sure there's a lot of garbage JRPG stuff floating around tha I haven't been playing.

There are so many terrible female character designs it's so hard to pick just one as the worst, pffft.
I guess I'd go with Fiore from SO5, though, as my pick for worst of the past decade. Cuz even if you covered up all.... that.... it's still a ridiculously busy design between the hair and the hat and the wings and the tail and good lord lol.
(fake edit: whoops, looks like I was beaten right as I was typing this up lol)

For best I'd definitely have to go with someone from Bloodborne or Sekiro. Crow, Lady Maria, and Lady Butterfly all have fantastic designs, it's hard to choose a best.

However, for more biased answers (cuz even tho I know these aren't objectively the worst and best, they're personal standouts for me)...
I'd give Cindy from FFXV the title of personal worst just because her design is so god damn jarring next to everyone else's and in context, it makes her feel like she just walked out of a porno instead. What makes it extra frustrating is that I actually like her character and think her design from the neck up is cute as heck, so not only is her appearance sexualized garbage but it's also a completely ruining waste of an otherwise great character. Pisses me off so badly lol.
Personal favorite will not be a popular opinion here and surprisingly also comes from FFXV, but... Aranea. I know she's got the heels and the skin showing, but there's something about her design coupled with her personality that is just so... aaa, bad ass frickin' cool! Especially with the mask on. She's like epic cosplay goals if I ever got in shape enough to confidently pull a midrift off. I love her.

I swear Tri-Ace is shit character design wise unless it's Valkyrie Profile or Resonance of Fate.

All 3 of these are excellent, there's also Emma from Sekiro as a good design too.

Yeah, Emma's design is pretty solid, too! Although I think I might like O'rin more. But tbh all the female characters in Sekrio were excellent. The Corrupted Monk, Snake Eyes, and Okami Warriors all being women and without a boobie or leggie in sight is so 👌 👌 👌 Bless that game.

As well as characters like Moenbryda and Tataru...

... to name a few!

Ellie and Chloe by Naughty Dog also deserve a mention!

Quiet from MGSV is a strong contender for the worst female character design of the decade, along with 2B from NieR and Rachel and Jessica from Resident Evil Revelations.

Yeah, the contrast between Cindy and Aranea is interesting. Cindy isn't just a poor character design, but it's also the way the camera ogles her. Aranea on the other hand is great, and more in line with what you'd expect from a strong female character in the series.

I keep forgetting about O'rin, she was great for a one time boss and yeah I always forget Corrupted Monk is a woman, but it's a great monster design. Shit if you're going to throw in Corrupted Monk I'll throw in Ebrietas from Bloodborne.

How does she even put this on?

Fun fact: Square Enix and Tri-Ace were targeting roughly All Ages demo for this game. Star Ocean is a General Audience title, as a whole and I'm fairly certain that's still the case. The worst they expected to get was a CERO B (12+) (which is what they more-or-less were expecting to get and keeping in line for). They avoided more heavier violence and blood, because of this. The rating came back with a C (15+) rating and it caught them by surprise. And yes, it was specifically the outfit CERO apparently outline for the C/15+ rating, which isn't a shock by any means.

Normally I'd say they were kinda foolish to expect CERO to be okay with this on a younger age rating, but I'd arguably say there's some really questionable outfits even on games with a B/12+ rating.

Either way, that outfit is still... something.
