When I think dragon types, I think Fire Dragon, Water Dragon, Acid Dragon, etc. But in anime, apparently you get Thigh Gap Dragon, Bikini Dragon, Pigeon Toe Dragon.....

We talked about the problem with a young lady being some sort of 1000 year old and Scathacha here is probably the only one I works cause she very in control and isn't put in a gross position. Her outfit is still a problem with the backless shirt and short skirt.
Not defending it, but the backless shirt is a staple of the Erune race, regardless of gender or age actually.

The fanservice in Dragon Quest games has always been off putting to me and it's weird how mainstream the series is in Japan, thus normalizing this. Of course the bigger issue with the series is the creator and SE still working with that nationalist queerphobic composer.

One Piece is the best selling manga of all time so fanservice doesn't usually stop a series from getting popular there.

When the Fire Force anime was announced I decided to marathon the manga and was actually surprised at how much ecchi shit it had and how egregious it was. Outside of the seasonal trash that I never watch most current popular manga I read wasn't even close to this for years. Was really weird.

I've heard that Soul Eater from the same author was really bad with it too but its anime toned down a lot of it.

The episode of Fire Force after Tamaki has been brutally beaten by her mentor and Shinra saved her. You would think during this conflict that the anime wouldn't use comedic fanservice at this time but no it's unsettling and ruined the entire fight.

Not sure if y'all saw the Rock, Paper, Shotgun review for Code Vein, but I admire the sexist callout in the opening paragraph.

Oh lord:

So I finally reached this cutscene and it's not as bad as they said? Like not defending the outfits but the actual cutscene seems to have a misunderstanding? The whole scene Yakumo (the guy) is talking about he's lost a lot of friends over the years and he doesn't want to lose anymore. The three sheep in question are Mia (the blonde), Io (white haired girl), and the player character (the one with the two different eye colors), as they're the new arrivals to the group. From what I know isn't specific to if you play male or female, he always call the three of them "sheep".

Should the dialogue not be there? Yeah, it's weirdly out of place in the whole cutscene regardless and again the outfits are not great.

Not to defend the outfit, but at least it makes a little sense with Alexstrazsa, since her dragon aspect represents life and fertility, so being a little more sexualized kinda fits the character. I always thought the same outfit on Ysera made little sense, though.

The answer is actually a bit simpler than that; Sylvanas got a new model in Wrath of the Lich King based on her Warcraft 3 look. This was back when very few NPCs got unique models. Instead of making different models for all 3, Blizzard just recycled Sylvanas plate bikini for them. Ysera didn't even get a unique dragon model until late in the next expansion.

Unlike the other two, Sylvanas is still a major story player and her model got updated to make a little more sense for a former ranger general (her original model was a generic Night Elf):

Now, as to why they decided to not give Alexstraza Sylvanas' pants I don't know.

It is funny how in this discussion of pants Guilty Gear drops a trailer with a female character without pants and most of the legs visible that ... is a great design that looks be have zero objectification

What exactly is wrong with her design? She's wearing a long shirt and shorts. I could understand if they did the long shirt just so they could constantly have upskirts of her, but that's not what they're doing.

...nothing I said it is a great design O.o

Sorry, I misread your post. May's always had a pretty cool design. Although she was unique in that sense. The rest of the female cast in the past have gone in the usual fighting game direction. It'll be interesting if they may tweak those designs since they're attempting to appeal to a broader audience this time around.

Hmm, on Guilty Gear, I was curious so I tuned in to CEOtaku top 8, but sheesh, those designs. Vacuum sealed clothes, floppy chests and panty shots. Sheeeeesh.

I really like how the gameplay looks but could never buy any of the games as they are now. Maybe the future holds something different...?

The first character looks pretty cool among all the other dragons in mobile games space. I play Epic 7 and the dragons in that are ridiculously sexualised.

Epic 7 also doesn't leave it at just sprites either, they sometimes add some more sexualisation with animations. Yufine's skill 3 for example is pretty blatant. At least they are quick.

Demon Slayer is miles ahead of FireForce in terms of actually great women characters. The ecchi just makes me think how it's more so a typical battle anime than anything else.

It helps that the author of demon slayer is a woman... The promised neverland was also made by a team of a man writing and a woman drawing it and aside from sister krone most designs have been pretty tasteful there

I didn't know fire force had ecchi by the promotional videos, now i'm pretty sad cause i was going to start watching it soon >_>

That's unfortunately a DQ staple. The strongest armor for women is usually the skimpiest. In DQIII women got the strongest non plot armor which is the "Magic Bikini".
No ones strongest armor is a magic bikini and that's the only piece of "dq esque" armor for Serena. All the sexism in the game armor wise gets heaped onto Jade.
I'm really liking XI's 2D mode for the absence of gross sexualization constantly shoved in your face, but it is also missing the costume slot which is present in Switch's 3D mode. That's a shame because the costumes are really cute in 2D. Dragon Quest games are usually 50/50 for me, you get your Maribels and Alenas (who are fully and sensibly clothed) and then you get the characters that (by design or who can) wear basically string bikinis with grapefruits shoved up their tops, which is always so ugh.

Yeah it's a misunderstanding. He says it even with a guy. Its because all three are new to the group. It makes even more sense if you view his memories.

But lord have mercy, they could not tone down Io's breasts? Also looking at you Coco. They are interesting characters, but that design.....

I still just don't get why they haven't given her like an actual outfit. Weird thing is that God Eater while not great with this stuff was at least better. I'd say they made steps backwards in terms of female designs in this game.

Yar, it's not like Deirdre is actually an Erune, so she has little reason to follow their culture. Moreso considering there are actually Erune exceptions with covered backsides.

Nevertheless, the whole "most Erunes wear backless shirt" thing can lead to some funny clothings:

Do I need to say anything

EFZi2KqWwAAqRqf

That is actually part of the game? I haven't been following this game at all but I did hear some talk about ramping up the female objectification. This exceeds the ridiculousness I was thinking was going to appear. These riduculous proportions look like it is straight out of a porn game.

I want this to continue as a series, this has easily become one of my favorite games. But i really hope they take a look at that character design. Like even if they were trying to go for sexy. They failed, as some of the women look comical, if not just creepy.

This guy just makes me wonder if terrible nerds would demand he be more covered up if he were rendered in 3D, like the Mobius Final Fantasy man

Isn't that kind of the truth? A lot of these games go for: "Sexy" and instead of just become... odd? Outfits that seem ridiculous and out of place in the setting. I am of the belief that you can actually have Sexy and Tastefulness. It's not a zero sum game. It's just a lot of these games veer waaaay off into the spectrum of weirdness.

Which then just makes you wonder who they were pandering to when they made those designs.

The only two characters I encountered who had reasonable designs are Aurora and Karen and even the latter still is big heavy on the top side and the game wants you to know that in the flashback cutscene with her.

Well, evidently there is a line. BMX XXX for example sold miserably, but Atelier seems to have had increased sales.
No, even the newer Atelier games before Ryza has been selling abysmally on Steam. They all had hundreds of concurrent users peak at launch. Ryza, in comparison, has been sitting in the top 10 sellers since it's up for pre-order. It's at number 7 globally now.

My guess is that the main factor this time is the new engine and visuals. It really does look like a current gen anime JRPG, compared to the previous entries.

Exactly? That's what I meant. Give the game a main character with "thicc thighs" and all of a sudden sales increase. The 2B effect.

Well, I guess I misread your post. I thought you're talking about the recent trend of Atelier games. But yeah, Ryza hit the internet with her design. While the previous games also have sexualized characters, Ryza kinda stands out compared to the others.

Anyway, I've been on the fence since the reveal, as Ryza is not that bad in my book. But with that ridiculous character in black outfit above, I think I'm good.

I've never purchased an Atelier game before, and to be honest I don't know if Ryza is even considered to be better than previous titles.

Me neither. Ryza was supposed to be my first Atelier game.

I'm not sure about better, as no one have played it yet, but the main attraction (at least for me) is that it's finally looking good visually.

The new entry seems to have retained both types of fans, just looking at twitter it seems still cute enough and tonally similar for the older fans, while grabbing newer ones.

I just assumed the image everyone is showing was a badly done mode since the artwork isn't nearly as bad
lila.jpg

That image has side boob, open vest with visible skin for the middle, and a small...panties? that leaves that barely covers her vagina, he skirt in the back also rides up to show her butt. What exactly about that image is "not that bad"?
