Have none of you played RUST? There's plenty of male penis there. Games sexualize both equally, and lorewise it would be a much harder deal to make armor tailor fit for women anyways, do they really have time to think about that during times of crisis?

One thing to bear in mind is that sexualisation/objectification and nudity are not equivalent. You can have one without the other. For all its nudity, RUST is not a sexy game.

Grand Theft Auto V, you see Trevor's penis as well.. Plenty of games are starting to follow the trend... I am discussing in good faith and I believe that the only people complaining just want to go against the lore of the games in question.

This is just all overblown. It's a video game, it's pixels on a screen... I don't get offended at all when I see male characters in nothing but underwear for armor, it's just eye candy for those of us who want to make a female character and enjoy the gameplay by looking at things we want to see all game instead of just blandness.

It literally doesn't or shouldn't hurt you at all how someone else equips their character or how "sexualized" you think they look, sex isn't the point of these games and the main focus is often on the combat or what have you, focusing on tiny details that make a few people happier/buy into the game and trying to remove those is just silly.

Yeah as far as I can tell female gamers havent stopped their complaints about how much harassment they get. You saying "it hurts no one" is simply untrue, people just don't realize how media tends to feed real life and vice versa.

you are comparing seeing a dick with objectification like if it was the same thing, you are talking about "lores" without even saying what games and what lores, and ignoring that lores in games are just fictitional pieces in games that can be written to say literallty everything...hard to say you come from good faith but if true please take a read to the thread because everything about that has been adressed.

Do you believe that Rust, GTA, The Order, and similar games are showing off male genitalia to appeal to players in the same way Soulcalibur, Dead or Alive, and SNK Heroines contain female characters who have bikini outfits for battle gear?

So that reminded me of something that tends to come up, namely the equivalence of nudity and sexualisation, which has always bothered me. In the past I've seen people in other threads will pipe up with "Why are you complaining about sexualisation in X when Y has more nudity? Surely that's worse." which speaks to a fairly immature view of sexual matters.

In particular it focuses specifically on content alone, devoid of context or framing. It would be like saying Doom should be criticised more than Hatred because there's more gore. And it seems odd that people who are easily capable of contextualising violent content in such a way as to judge whether it's appropriate or not, are not capable of doing the same for sexual content. I suppose it makes more sense that they're not so much incapable as they are unwilling, since it would force them to reflect more on how women are portrayed in games.

I don't want sexual themes to be removed from games, but neither do I think the solution is necessarily to add more objectified men (as some people occasionally offer as a compromise). I just want sexual matters to be used in a more interesting and thoughtful way, beyond just being softcore pornography.

...Yeah, exactly, hence the reason for the complaints about how many character outfits are designed with sex in mind rather than combat. >_>

They were so close, yet so far.

Folks, you gotta start reading the profiles before engaging with trolls

The funniest part is that he was posting in a bunch of different topics trying to get his post count up before he dropped that stupid ass bomb in here. Like he knew all the obvious trolls only have like one or two post before they make the troll post so he half-assed it by making a bunch of post in about an hour trying to make himself look more legitimate.

It's funny (and sad) how far these trolls will go for something that everyone can see right through.

I would really love for sex and sexuality to be touched on at all instead of being a catch-all that includes "the cheapest, most titillating shit for 14 year-old boys." Give me some Gaspar Noe shit, video games. Like Thumper but more explicit.

Can I just say how much I love the term "boner culture"? Especially when you add in the original meaning of "boner" was slang for stupid mistake, or being an idiot. It just works on so many levels.

penis being shown=an example of male sexualization.

PLEASE PAY ZERO ATTENTION TO THE FACT THAT IT'S AN EXAMPLE OF A GAME WHERE MALE NUDITY IS MEANT TO BE A HUMOROUS CONCEPT

Yeah - or maybe wait just 3 days longer until all those who are on blackout and want to rant as well can participate?

Fair enough? For those here still on the fence with the product though, knowing in advance might be the dealbreaker they ought to know about. Again, they are free to check out the spoiler thread... right now.

After all the previews and after seeing this part of the final trailer, I knew not to expect much when it comes to the women of this game. And then I see that post in the spoiler thread....

And as usual things like this will just be drowned out during the HYPE period. Especially since this is the latest new game in an old series.

Battle shonens always get me depressed in that regard... Anyone here ever read Magi? It has quite a lot of fanservice but the female characters were just awesome, you had Morgiana who was the muscles of team, by far. Ren Hakuei, leader of an army, very strong general which got the respect of a whole horde of a wandering tribe, Ren Kougyoku, which despite the sheltered princess portrayal and behavior ended up becoming a respected and strong leader. Arba, which is one of the craziest meanest villains I've ever seen, and so on. Only to have half of the woman tossed aside in order for the boys to have their final fight between themselves

I love shinobu ohtaka but girl, you gotta learn how to fight your editors >_>

(I've only talked about half of the women in the series, btw x-x)

Uggghhhhh I read a huge chunk of magi a couple of years ago and was really enjoying it( I left off at the point where they first meet Ren and he joins them on a dungeon). Seeing this is really disappointing but i've been gravitating away from shonen recently because its a continuous cycle of girls being sidelined because young male readers can't possibly understand girls being competent for too long. Its why im falling off MHA hype because despite having 20 students if your not Deku,Bakugou or Todoroki you don't matter(especially if your a female).

On the same topic of Jump editors affecting decisions involving female characters, the main overt thing I know editors will discuss with mangaka is the necessity of "Designated Girl Fights" because I guess the audience finds MvF fights less exciting for some reason? World Trigger's mangaka mentioned it in one of his volume extras and I always found that bizzare and enlightening.

I just started world trigger this week and for how much I love the use of Trion and battles, there's just so much blatant sexist shit that reminds me why I stopped reading shonen series:

"wow this characters kind of unlikable lets circumvent that by giving her bigger breast! That will allow readers to tolerate her!"

Kishimoto should have taken notes, all he had to do to fix Sakura apparently was give her a bigger bust GENIUS!

It's a weird area where he talks about it, but it never really shows up in the art since he draws girls in normal clothing and there aren't any objectifying angles. Ashihara handles his female characters pretty well other wise.

Which sucks because Mahou Sensei Negima! wasn't that long ago and while that manga has a load of problems, at the very least the female characters stay important till the very end.

Well, I wouldn't want to keep you from a good night rest, so I'll try to be concise. The high end gear would be the most practical. That is, if she was wearing the cop clothes from previous post the argument that she could pick better gear is still valid, if a little bit less so, as a full jacket and pants would be better suited for the outbreak.

To finish, if we look Jill's clothes from a purely practical stand point, yes, her costume is stupid. But this is game, not real life. And in that cotext her costume manages to be appealing and became iconic. And I'd like to believe it's because it created an interesting contrast. Jill was tough, was basically in hell yet wore this simple and out of place clothes.

And to say something... diplomatic, I'd be perfectly happy with outfits 2, 4 and 5 form here:

x0hn6wrph6e21.png

Although I'd prefer her to wear skort leggings.
Ooh I'm into all of these other than 5 (the sweater just seems more like something you'd wear to dinner).

Honestly Magi is way less infuriating than MHA, it's not great though :/ at least before being shelved these women were political leaders, villains, generals, wise magicians and/or had ridiculous amounts of inhuman strenght

The most empowering battle shounen I read was Jojo part 6(Stone ocean), if you get past the beginning you'll just see an anime version of Orange is the New Black... like i won't say there will never be times the story gets bad because some editor said there were too many women in the cast, and reading Narciso is pure suffering. But Jolyne is hands down the best Jojo ever written in the whole franchise, which is awesome as she's the only girl protagonist there so far.

As for other series... it's complicated. I like FMA:B a lot, but winry is a bit sidelined. The author compensates by making every other female character god damn competent and awesome though, she made some great characters and pretty diverse ones...

I like HxH but there's not much female representation there aside from some supporting characters or villains(which are all very competent and well written), as the main cast is usually comprised of 4 boys. If you catch up with the manga, though, it's got the fiercest women I've ever seen and the series usually has a very diverse female cast in terms of appearance/body shape, not much for color though afair...It also has a trans girl in a saga that deals with family struggles and it's honestly not cringy about that, which is a plus.

I love shounen manga but being a fan of. It is a pain. I used to like MHA but Deku became so OP it became a very boring thing to read and the author being a creep didn't help much :/

Ironically when harem manga starts to turn into action manga, by virtue of the fact that the women being constant in the main guy's life, they tend to actually treat women with far more agency otherwise. This, of course, is immediately countered by the fact that 99% of it is fanservice wank. Though things like Negima (Pacto jokes aside) and Rosario Vampire surprisingly are a lot better when they become battle shounen vs harem mangas...though they still have a laundry list of problems.

I never watched SAO but heard it dropped quickly in quality because of what happens in season 2. What happened since I'm no longer interested in finding out?
