Only tangibly related, but watching Spider-Man on Twitch, I noticed that male entitlement and toxicity in the Twitch chat is even worse now than I was used to. Mary Jane is a bitch because she dares disagree with Peter, and Silver Sable ought to be "fucked in the front ass" among other things moments after she has been introduced. And of course, and one must not forget, saving any woman at any point means that you are free to fuck her now. In fact, that is something you deserve as your just reward. These things are something you do not see one or two people say, but something echoed collectively. Now I know that some people refer to Twitch chat as the toxic waste dump of the internet, but to me it's just another venue for men to show their true colors. Shit is disgusting and oh so telling.

IME this is also true of some twitch and youtube gaming communities that pride themselves on being "welcoming" and friendly. It's less prevalent, but it finds a way to creep in. In the case of one community I could name, it kind of explodes in bursts every couple months or so, then goes back to bubbling under the surface. It's always there, but gets easier to ignore for a while. Just shows even touting yourself as an inclusive environment still attracts people willing to ignore (or even eager to disrupt) that. Trying to find a place free from the rot of 'gamer' culture feels like swimming against the tide sometimes.

Not sure if I mentioned this in the old thread, but it's an amusing observation none-the-less: all the women I know who play video games have a much broader palette of titles to their name than blokes, who overall tend to stick with the big, popular AAA titles.

Equally amusing is that, despite always labelling women as "fake ganers", men are much, much more likely to pretend they've played a game or are a big fan of a series - or, indeed, do their best to hide their love of games considered "childish" or "for girls".

Toxic masculinity takes many guises!

Men have the dubious honour of being the only people who have ever (unsolicited, always lol) urged me to play a game they themselves have not played and can't really vouch for when asked for more information. Happened with various games when I got a PS4, and more recently with BotW when I got a Switch, from men who owned none of the systems that play those games. I wonder if they feigned insight based on internet consensus and IGN reviews with their male friends *thinkingemoji*

Love this coupled with the "need a game for my girlfriend" posts that crop up, where guys discuss games they've never played and recommend based on simplicity, or even better, cooking (always see Overcooked brought up).

I remember watching this on my grandmothers tv all the time as a young girl, so many good memories. He was always my favorite part. Being half french myself I remember seeing a French chef win the episode against the iron chef, the first time I ever saw anyone win, and it made me happy. I could have sworn that guy had onions occasionally too and took bites of them, he was hardcore!

Wait, what? This changes everything.

I remember watching a Rugrats episode when I was a kid where I believe it was Stu and Drew in the kitchen and them arguing about having so many eggs and one of them mentioned ordering a Gross of them, first time I learned of the usage for that haha

Have they ever tried to impress you by boasting about their home cinema setup and how many frames per second their elite gaming PC can push? Because that shit's hilarious. Especially in real life conversation XD
When I was at school the correct way to impress someone you were sweet on with your media setup was mixtapes with hand-drawn sleevenotes. I suppose the equivalent now is a playlist but it's not the same as a carefully lettered 'xxx's slammin' megamix' or a carefully curated set of the best Speccy games around. My mixtapes unfortunately gained the reputation of not working very well. The horror...

Part of why I care so little about framerate stuff is annoying office people at my previous job who kept boasting about it, as if it was something that should make me go oooooooooooooh woooooooooooooow. It never did, all it did was be annoying.

People are ok with fapping to a lot of stuff. Doesn't mean that it all translates directly to what they would actually be into in real life.

I don't think the people who enjoy Bowsette in that way but also claim they aren't attracted to trans people are also looking at actual trans porn.

Bowsette might as well be just another sexy anime girl to them. I imagine in the heat of the moment they don't even think about the character's origin story.

Just so we are clear, you people are agreeing with me, right ?

because my post was

"Yeah, they are ok with fapping to trans people tho.
And they are ok with the idea they usually give as argument to why they don't date trans people."

Which means the form matters to being sexualy attracted and the reason people usually give to why they don't date trans people is that they are not sexually attracted.

The whole point to both is how much people think an information about the past matters.
The difference is obviously that being sexually atracted to a fictional lizard is better than an actual human woman.

I'll never understand why anyone wouldn't date a trans woman if they're straight. For me, I couldn't care less if there's a vagina or a penis or if someday the person was at birth a man, I'm attracted to the woman body, not the genital. If I love or I'm attracted to a person, this is complete irrelevant. I never dated because I never had contact with one (at least knowing that the people was a trans person, of course) but to me it isn't any different to a cisgender woman.

I think I disagree with you honestly. My understanding (correct me if I'm way off) based of your posts and what you replied to, is essentially that you think people (assuming men for this conversation) who fap to something such as drawings of a male to female genderbent character, or similar imagery, should also be willing to date a real life trans woman, on the basis that the 2d characters is similar in form to that of trans women. But that these people would most likely not be willing to do so on the grounds that trans women were not born female. Yet they ignore that same "rule" when it comes to something like bowsette. Which I'm guessing you find ridiculous because these people can ignore that bowsette used to be a giant lizard, but not ignore that a trans woman was born male?

If that's a relatively correct understanding of what you're saying, then no I don't really agree

Regarding trans porn (drawn or real), there was a ted talk linked in some era thread a few days ago. Which specifically discussed why some men who are straight, experience arousal at that kind of pornography. I will link it if I find it

And in more general terms, there's just A LOT of different things that people find arousing while it's just part of some fantasy. With some of those things being something that would in all likelihood be quite horrifying to see or have happen in real life. To just give one example, go look up "vore". I sincerely doubt that most people that have that fetish would be very interested in seeing or have that happen in real. And yet that's a very real thing that some people have a fetish for.

And so I think it's wrong to say that people should be willing to date trans people if they fap to something like drawings of genderbent characters. Because there can be a huge difference between what can trigger arousal or someone can have a fetish for, versus what they are actually interested in when it's not just some kinky fantasy

I don't think it's hypocritical for someone who likes Bowsette to claim that they don't find trans people attractive.

There's a big difference between being aroused by actual trans people and being aroused by sexy fan art of an anime girl whose design is loosely based on a male character.

But then again I find hypocritical that anyone that find hot woman atractive to not find a specific hot woman atractive but that is just me.

I think the point is that people could find a trans person attractive, would never know if not told and change their attraction just based on that bit of info.
Yet that bit of info changes nothing for their attraction to Bowsette and similar genderbent characters.

But yeah, the likely reason is that people have an easier time to see a half lizard 2d character as a woman compared to a woman who looks and feels like a woman at that point who they know was assigned male at birth.

It's likely no minds will be changed, trans people will feel hurt and other people might be banned when discussing this if previous discussions about this are any indication.

I think the performativity is largely dissociative. I don't think people genuinely see the character as being anything other than a sexual fantasy, the dysphoria is never part of the discussion for them. It's effectively a male privilege associated with sex and attractiveness, that the traits of a woman aren't as important as them filling an idyllic role that doesn't exist in real life. It's effectively a morphism that comes out of a disconnect from reality associated with women historically (perhaps best characterized by the "Men are from Mars" schlock).

Edit: Also, holy crap y'all Timespinner is fantastic. Give it a shot if you're in the mood for an Igavania par excellence.

Timespinner really is great, am pretty far in it so far - played it today instead of doing stuff I originally wanted to do, it was rather enticing.
Didn't expect to like the story of an Igavania, but I sure do here - and the characters are also quite intriguing.

Oh wow, I had no idea Timespinner released. I've been waiting to play it on my Vita for a while. The concept seems fun and the MC sounded cool.

Innuendo Studios just put up an 8 part video series (the parts are short making it a relatively quick watch) that I can not recommend enough! Everything discussed is relevant to this thread and though it's talking movies, it's just as applicable to video games. Here are the first two, but go watch them all:

It's making perfect sense to have link to previous parts in such multi-part threads. So I don't ask "oh no I can't find old thread", I ask why there is no better navigation in op

Like those retro community threads, they have links to each other in each op

Same for old thread, it would have link to this one in its op
I don't think anyone cares to trawl through four hundred pages of that discussion. The relevant parts were added to this OP, and the current discussion on the last couple pages is what matters.

Besides, I'm still working on the "best of thread" master post thing so most of the good stuff should be on this thread soon anyways.

...incidentally, I probably should actually work on that instead of being lazy but...

Ah, modern generation of tumblr/discord era people. You only care for "what happens now" and don't care about past. Thank god i grew up on forums where every thing has its own thread and advanced search, so you can get back to all information when you need it in best way.

Also, it's irrevelant whether anyone cares or not. It's about keeping things in order and having hierarchy. It's just simple like that.

If you're such a famed historian go look it up yourself. It's actually not that hard. It's really easy.

I specifically said that while i and others can use search bar, it's a common practice for multi-part threads to have links for previous and next parts on OP's of current part.

advanced search mentioning was later in a rant about modern web due to your reaction "who cares", mostly a reference to discord crowd (where you have, like, huuuuuge chats instead so people never read what was written before unlike forum threads, and discord didnt have any search for several years before they finally added it) and to simplified jokes of a forum engines like vanillaforums or discourse (they dont even have subforums, just "tags" instead)

Do you make a habit of going into subsequent OTs and scolding the posters there about not having links to previous threads or have you just made this one your crusade?

I just searched "Why Women" and it comes up so...

I was actually thinking about Nancy Drew when I typed that.

For something far better known that allegedly has a large female demo there is Animal Crossing. Even then, a lot of people on this forum like to downplay that game's popularity. Must blow minds to learn that it surpasses every Zelda not named BotW (until the Switch game comes out, at least).
The Smash threads around Isabelle's reveal were full of posters being upset that she got to be her own character (versus an echo fighter) and/or in the game. You would have thought she was a random character from some old SNES game no one cared about, versus a franchise that has had spinoffs, a movie, merchandise, and more.

Hey guys, so you may have already discussed this earlier in the thread, but what do you think of Fury's design? I really don't like the chest plate, but other than that I think it's a pretty decent representation.
Actual character wise, I'd prefer if it had less skulls though, and more eyes.

A bit edgy for my taste but it fits well enough into the universe I guess. Definitely agree that the heels drag it down a bit.

I cannot unsee the
smiley face in the chest piece. Along with the rest of the edgy outfit I just can't take it seriously

I like the hair. Reminds me of Id from Xenogears

For a female character design, it's actually fairly great - my main complaint is the battle heels designers just slap on female designs, the rest is male character territory and fits to the series just fine. And the hair, yeah, that's definitely giving me a Xenogears vibe too!
