I don't care about the size, I just wish the PS5 was competently built/engineered, which it is not. It's so disappointing reading about all the coil whine, noisy disc drives and fans needing o-rings added to stop the system from vibrating. What the fuck is up with Sony's shoddy hardware quality?

I had a jet engine PS4 Pro and the PS5 currently looks like a noisy, crashing piece of beta hardware. I'll wait for a revision and see if any of these abysmal issues are fixed.

I'd gladly pay a bit more for something with a nice build quality. The PS5 reeks of cheapness and cut corners.

Has anybody done BOM's for the two systems yet?

If I had to guess, the series X is more expensive to manufacture and that higher manufacturing cost is in part due to a more compact cooling solution.

Why not, you know, get the better alternative then?

Microsoft chose to go more complex, thus spend more.
Sony chose to keep it simple, thus cheaper.

Both got to a relatively cool console in different ways

Weird how with all those terrible problems we can't pick up used PS5s for $300 from all the people who are dissatisfied with their purchase.

Unless your extremely anal about these things most of what you wrote about can be ignored. If you have lived through PS4 pro jet engine, as have i, the PS5 feels like heaven even if it isn't perfect.

That's not how this works. It's not a binary choice between "perfect" and "fuck this, I'm returning it."

People tolerate annoyances. It doesn't mean there's no room for improvement.

I already have the better alternative, a PC. I just usually like Sony's output as well as other Playstation exclusives, so I was kinda hoping that the hardware wouldn't be a lottery again.

That's not how this works and you know that. Read the coil whine thread and you'll see people doing exchanges and receiving similarly shitty hardware or people simply waiting to exchange at a future date due to limited availability.

I don't know how one can say Sony went more simple and cheaper when they're using a liquid metal cooling solution in a mass produced product. That to me is more complex than the split motherboard design of the Series X.

I was so dissapointed when I got my PS5 and it wasn't nearly as big as people made it out to be. My PC tower is bigger!

Well I guess there's alot more people with "bad taste" out there 😂, more so than people with good taste.....who's opinion supposedly matters more.
Silly argument. There's only one PS5 style available and people are largely locked into their console ecosystems at this point. PS4 Pro sold well too and that thing was also incompetently designed garbage. People will suck up whatever Sony gives them and get confirmation biased into liking it. Case in point: all the people who recognized how shitty the PS5 design was, but now all of the sudden are coming around on it after they've spent $500+ to put it in their home.

Is a die shrink even possible anytime soon to allow these consoles to be smaller in a few years?

I got over the size in a matter of moments. I did shift the console location into the door section of my media cabinet though.

Same thing with the Switch, right. Just stupid people and their stupid confirmation biases.

It's not too bad looking. Noone in my family and none of my guests really paid attention to it or brought it up, except those who knew what it was. We were more marveled at the games put out on the TV screen than the hardware.

After having it for over a month it's really easy to look at.

Room for improvement isn't the same thing as an incompetent disaster, which is what is being alleged.

Well, excuse me for not wanting to pay for "room for improvement". Excuse me for not being satisfied with "room for improvement". Sony's hardware is shit. They need to fix it.

Same thing with the Switch, right. Just stupid people and their stupid confirmation biases.

The garbage self-destructing joy-cons and Nintendo's failure to fix the mess is also beyond shitty. But that's a whole different story than Sony's beta-level PS5 hardware which is what we're discussing in this thread.

Saving this post to use in 2 years, the dunk is gonna be hilarious.

It's one of the ugliest pieces of hardware ever created. I hope there's a "slim" revision in a couple years.

I guess I just got lucky that I have none of those issues huh? Or maybe "widespread reports" are often overblown because people with no problems don't spend their time complaining in forum threads. To be fair I do have a DE though.
People with good taste, people whose opinions matter, etc.
I really hope this is a meme or there's a hidden /s somewhere...

They had to make it look like a jet engine so that it didn't sound like a jet engine. I don't mind the design, but the size of it makes it look comical. If you gave me that design in a console the size of an Xbox One X, I'd love it.

I get why they are so damn big, I just wish Sony would have shrunk it down some. The series X is still damn big but its a square so its less unwieldy to put places and its big within reason. PS5 is extravagantly big where its annoying. I have a series X and I'm not in a place to get a PS5 any time soon but the idea that I'll have to get a new entertainment center or do some drastic tetrising is pretty damn irksome.

Very interested to see what the revision of the PS5 will be like some years down the line.

If it has to be big then let it be big but glossy plastic on electronics in 2020 is 🤮

i get people have different taste and i'm indifferent about the PS5 and prefer the XB design, but some of these posters here are just embarrassingly straight up fanboy nonsense

It's just a different way to take up the same sort of volume. MS went short and fat. Sony went tall and thin. The choice MS made however means it won't fit in my entertainment centre, even sideways. The shelves are too narrow.

But of course. Anyone that doesn't agree with your opinion (the only one that matters, obviously) is just falling victim to confirmation bias or sucking up to their corporate overlords.

I don't think your head could be any further up your own ass.

And what a boring world you want to live in. One where everything is designed by committee to fall under the same homogeneous and "safe" design principles. With you and your great taste at the head of the committee. Nevermind the fact that design, like fashion, is CONSTANTLY evolving and you have no idea what is going to be the new "thing" in the future.
