Thought this was a really interesting tool to play around with. Happy to see more blue support here in my county in Florida all things considered.

Map link: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive...aign-donations.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur

Joe Biden has outraised President Trump on the strength of some of the wealthiest and most educated ZIP codes in the United States, running up the fund-raising score in cities and suburbs so resoundingly that he collected more money than Mr. Trump on all but two days in the last two months, according to a New York Times analysis of $1.8 billion donated by 7.6 million people since April.

The data reveals, for the first time, not only when Mr. Biden decisively overtook Mr. Trump in the money race — it happened the day Senator Kamala Harris joined the ticket — but also what corners of the country, geographically and demographically, powered his remarkable surge.

I live in one of the wealthiest, most highly educated counties in the country. My ZIP code has some ~2000 donations to Biden, and <300 to Trump.

Suburb of Mpls/St Paul. Significantly more Biden but still wish it was more drastic. My county is wealthy and verrry white though. Love clicking through some of the Minneapolis ones and seeing like 2000 Biden to under 100 Trump.

Edit: that was # of donors.
for $ my county is much closer. $98k to $82k. Fuckin old rich white fucks.

my favorite Minneapolis # is $640k Biden to $5k Trump. LIBERATE MINNESOTA.

Nice, my zip has nearly 4 times the donations to Biden as Trump. My whole county has more biden. Literally all the counties around me are Trump dominated though. Hooray Florida.

You can just see the sprawl in detail in Oklahoma.

The blue dots, where I live that have a large BIPOC population, being absolutely surrounded by the majority white, majority suburban sub-communities.

I'm mostly blue from where I live.

On another note, I'm surprised of how people, companies & celebrities who've endorsed Trump aren't furious of how he had spent all of the campaign money that they've given him.

My zipcode basically supports what I've seen, which is a virtual tie. According to that map Trump is up in my zipcode by 50ish contributions, which is enough to make it lean GOP. The street over, which is another zip code, is has 200 more contributions for Biden than Trump. This is the north-west suburbs of Houston. Obviously Harris County as a whole is pretty safely blue at this point.

Edit: yuck, 3x as much money was raised for Trump though, and even though Biden had more contributions in the zip code directly next to me, Trump outraised him there too. This congressional district flipped in 2018 from red to blue though, so who the fuck knows what's going on here.

everything should be free, its on the internet, duh!

that said i do get where they're coming from. I can't afford to sign up for every news source.
Yes that's clearly what I'm saying. Everything should be free. Yep exactly. Jesus.

Apparently I'm not allowed to be a little frustrated every single thing being behind a paywall and I need to pay for every news service in existence.

If you want to see just how much the suburbs have flipped, look up 46032 and 46033, right above Indianapolis. That's Carmel, IN, where I live.

The winner of the Republican mayoral primary is de facto mayor because no Democrat runs. But Biden is beating Trump on both sides of the city.

Good sign for Christina Hale's chances of flipping the district of the retiring Susan Brooks.

I hate how pretty much all news is either paywalled or requires you to login in some way. Ugh.

Journalism is very, very expensive. Print circulation and ad revenue are declining. They've got to do what they've got to do.

(And the New York Times print and digital editions might be openly accessable through your local library.)

Happy to see my zip overwhelmingly Biden. Made my first donation when Sanders dropped out and the primary was over, have continued to every few weeks / months.

Yeah, good journalism costs money to do and the NYT has huge, decently well paid staffs and they do a lot of the reporting on basically every major story that breaks through the news cycle. One decent thing today is that most stories are picked up by ad supported sites that don't usually do original reporting, Politico, The Hill, Business insider, Forbes, Yahoo, and so.on, so you can usually get a synthesized (and usually click baity) version of a lot of the original reporting from the NYT. Still for major investigative work that's well presented and original like this one you don't get the same polish and substance from the downriver news outlets.

But subscribing to one really good newspaper -- the NYT or WaPo -- is more valuable than a lot of the other stuff we spend money on, netflix subs, gamepass, apple tv, hulu, or what have you.

They usually have promotions and deals running that you can get a first month for a $1 or whatever and then decide if you want to keep it.

I think my Seattle zipcode is fairly pro-Biden. 2500 plus donations for Biden and 60 for Trump. $1,000,000 plus compared with $14,000. lol

People are hating on you for this, but I do believe it's created a problem where high quality properly researched and sourced journalism is behind a paywall while things like brietbart and OAN are available for free. We have a situation where lies are even easier to spread than the truth.

Yet another confirmation that I've always been in a bubble:

Where I'm registered to vote: 1500 Biden donors giving $547k, vs 360 Trump donors giving $135k (Seattle suburbs)
Where I last lived in the US: 3000 Biden donors giving $498k, vs 190 Trump donors giving $38k (Manhattan)
Where I've spent the most time of late in the US (work trips): 490 Biden donors, giving $2.7m, vs 50 Trump donors giving $28k (SF)

100x more money for Biden in my zip, and the numbers are sizeable. Good job, neighbors.

I found a nearby zip with 400x the money for Biden, but it was under $50 for Trump because I don't think many people live there. It's rural, undeveloped land largely owned by the government. I guess they want it to stay that way.

You guys act like I don't understand this. Enough of the dogpile. Is anybody not allowed to be frustrated by anything on this website? FFS. Just bc I am frustrated doesn't mean I don't pay for news in some way or understand why it is the way it is. I also can't reasonably pay for every news site on the planet that does this........

People are hating on you for this, but I do believe it's created a problem where high quality properly researched and sourced journalism is behind a paywall while things like brietbart and OAN are available for free. We have a situation where lies are even easier to spread than the truth.
Thank you!!!!!
