I'd honestly be surprised at this point if anyone can crack 50% in terms of percent of the population who trusts them. Or, if anyone can beat that, it's because they've never spoken on anything with serious political salience, and as soon as they did their trust level would plummet.

It's gotta be someone on Era

US-era, form a single-file line, please. It's time to start doing some trust fall exercises

No one. Obama isn't trusted by a large segment of the population. He might be the most popular politician, but most trusted person? Nah.

Fauci isn't either, the same large segment of the population disbelieves him.

There are 70 million Catholics in the US. Trump got 73 million votes. Close, but Trump ekes out a win!

I thought that too, but I think that's just adults and doesn't count the kids/teens. Wikipedia says the 2016 count was 70 million+ total.

i am in a heavily catholic family and most catholics know do not trust the pope because they think he is "socialist" lol

sure but you don't necessarily need to be Catholic to trust the Pope, that's more of a floor than a ceiling

but yeah really tough to put numbers on this stuff

Except Pope Francis has seen a pretty sharp decline in popularity among the Evangelical population, and the decline is only accelerating. Evangelicals don't like Catholics much in the first place and this particular pope is socially liberal by the standards of the Catholic Church, which alienates the happy-clappys even further.

Mitch McConnell.

I'm serious. You can always trust that he will do whatever is necessary to accelerate the right wing agenda.

Bernie Sanders, AOC, Ilhan Omar and Richard Wolff are some of the most trusted people in the US.

Most trusted person? Bernie Sanders.

Lol

Edit: you guys cannot be serious with some of these suggestions. AOC? Bernie? What world are you guys living in? You realize more than half of the country actively hates these people and even a big chunk of the left (moderates etc) wouldn't even "trust" them. Then you have all the conspiracy loons. Just because you trust them doesn't mean that's a common feeling.

It's me

More seriously, what's far more important than "signal boosting" someone who's universally trusted (which I'm not even sure is a desirable trait per se — a lot of people have historically gained a ton of trust but were evil) would be radically changing the media organization and structure away from a model of corporate ownership so that the media *writ large* is more trustworthy. Any particular "trusted" figure in American media today is necessarily beholden to this model, a model which I perceive as horrible. I guess I see OP's suggestion as a particular flavor of hero worship which is something I'm generally averse to

And yes this sentiment only applies to media figures but given the nature of contemporary partisanship I don't know what a universally trusted politician could even look like. I'm certainly dubious of the notion that such a politician would necessarily be good; I suspect they would be bad

In terms of general humanity and social etiquette? I can only think of actors:

Tom Hanks
Keanu Reeves
Morgan Freeman
The Rock

They all seem like really good, genuine, down to earth people, and pretty much everyone likes them.

In terms of politics and government stuff? I don't know TBH. Obama is still THE MAN I guess.

Tom Hanks, love that guy.

Real shame that the right is trying to propagate BS about him being a pedo. Every single comment section with Tom hanks now has it.
