As of now I've played Black Eagles, Blue Lions and the DLC.
I think I'll say my overall favorite is Bernie.
This girl annoyed the fuck out of me initially, but her personality makes a great contrast to her ability on the field, someone who hates fighting, but is absolutely lethal with it on the battlefield is great to see develop. She even got the final kill for me in my Blue Lions route. I don't think I'll ever do a playthrough without Bernie.
And I didn't even touch that sad ass backstory.
Dorothea.
Ended up romancing her in my first playthrough. Just a nice presence and is refreshingly practical about her place in life and what she needs to do succeed. Always enjoyed her supports with anyone.
Sylvain.
Okay, so out of the gate Sylvain is not a good person, but I think he is the best example why this game works for fans of older Fire Emblem games, or at least for me as someone who started with Path of Radiance. In Awakening, Sylvain would've just been the "skirt chaser" and that would've been his entire personality, but in Three Houses, we get Mr. Horny that joins you simply because you're a woman, and he ends up being an absolute monster of a unit, but you get to learn why he's the way he is, how his upbringing effected his outlook on life through several conversations. It's a shame he couldn't have a support with Edelgard, those two had a surprising amount in common. But also, he is an absolute monster of a unit.
Hapi.
Waifu.
And rounding out the top 5 is, I'll give a shout-out to my fearless team leader Ms. Chess not Checkers Edelgard and Felix.
Here's the thing about Felix. Knowing how the second half of the game goes, it's nice to observe certain character relationships, recruit one person with a lot of personal ties and then make them do the deed throughout the second half of the game. Sylvain has a good one early, but Felix has some great confrontations in the second half of the Black Eagles playthrough. I love that shit. And what's also good about it is, he's already mad at his team half the time so why not validate his dislike of them.
