Many Americans and people around the world watched in horror as a mob of Donald Trump supporters rushed the US Capitol in Washington DC on Wednesday afternoon, wreaking fear and chaos with seemingly little resistance from police on Capitol Hill.

While fury over the mob was directed at various Republican lawmakers on social media, Trump bore the brunt of the blame from his most stringent critics. Multiple people, including George Conway, husband of Trump's former adviser Kellyanne Conway, and the US representative Rashida Talib called for Trump's immediate impeachment.

While images and videos of Capitol police pointing their guns and running around the building were shared, many more images of the Trump-supporting mob successfully overtaking the building, including sitting at the front of the Senate and walking away with a podium, spread on Twitter.

People were quick to point out the hypocrisy of law enforcement letting the mob, which was overwhelmingly White, take over the Capitol building with little hindrance.

Political scientists pointed out that the day's events would change the way the world views the US. "No one in the world is likely to see, respect, fear, or depend on us in the same way again," tweeted Richard Haas, president of the Council on Foreign Relations, a US-based thinktank.

Ian Bremmer, president of Eurasia Group, wrote on Twitter: "It is unimaginable that today's political disaster could happen in Canada, Japan, France or the UK," saying that the US "is the most politically dysfunctional and divided of advanced industrial democracies".

World leaders also condemned the insurgence, expressing alarm about what it meant for US democracy.

We all know why. But I move that today, and all days, henceforth be known as The Crackering.

White people are so fragile and desperate to be oppressed.

"But defund the police sounds baaaaad!/ They need BETTER training"

People can stfu when trying to toss that at me. Cops have systemic racism ingrained in them, this nation has systemic racism so far ingrained in it's DnA people can't see terrorism for what it is if the faces are white.

It's still insane how little fucking security the goddamn Capitol building had. Like so insane it feels like a full on conspiracy and it was planned to be left with a skeleton crew that day cause they knew about the rally.

And yes I know about the video with the cops letting them and taking selfies.

Then you know that no amount of security would have mattered, so what is the bloody point of this post, other than to sound downright conspiratorial for no reason since you already have the correct explanation for why this happened at all?

Why the holy fuck are you acting so aggro? Don't come with this shit.

It was just a venting stream of thoughts at all this bullshit and how ridiculous it all was.

Even other law enforcement was supposedly "shocked" at how the police let them into the capitol.

There could have been the entire army there and it wouldn't have changed a damn thing, it's a joke. You can even get mad at the blatant double standard because is so crushingly sad.

I watched CNN for hours and they were on this theme constantly. Still so weird to me watching US news and they just call stuff out.

It's actually scary that the police are on the side of the white supremacists and just let them into the capitol building and facilitated this coup attempt.

This cop needs to be fired and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law ASAP. The man doesn't do his job at all to secure the building but instead poses for selfies while these fuckers are literally breaching the capitol and planting bombs.

Remember this is what they did to protect the Lincoln Memorial, a statue, from people protesting close by?

Remember what Trump and his administration put together to clear protestors so Trump can take a photo in front of the church?

Secret Service, Park Police, D.C. National Guard, Bureau of Prisons Special Operations Response Team, etc. compared to only the Capitol Police that were assembled at the protests today despite Trump and Republicans riling his supporters up for some Civil War or violent revolution for the last couple months following the election, and even signaling before.

At the very least, there is a clear and undeniable difference between what the Trump administration approved there back in June but refused to approve yesterday. Apparently this whole "Storm the Capital" thing was organized on social media, so you don't think the FBI or anyone knew about this and were totally caught unaware? That had to know of the amount of outsiders flooding into D.C. Trump has been attacking Pence for saying he would confirm the election and we knew they were pissed at even the Republicans who weren't supporting Trump. It was bound to be a tense day.

It's not even about Trump's excessive response during the summer, but the gulf in the lack of response here, even when people were threatening to break into the capital and did. How long did it take for SWAT and the National Guard to be deployed after Congress had already been evacuated the the Capitol had been stormed? Why was Pence deploying them and not Trump? It is not conspiracy and I think we may start to get a better idea of the failures that lead to what was able to happen yesterday and how much of that was intentional.

Joe Scarborough is often garbage but he's absolutely right here. He doesn't say it specifically but its clear that he's suggesting that the police let these guys go because they're white and/or are Trump supporters. Its utterly pathetic and probably the easiest example that anyone who hasn't got their heads up their ass can recognize as white privilege.

If they were black, they'd be shot the minute they jumped the barriers or climbed the walls. If they were muslim, they'd be shot a couple blocks away by snipers.

You should apologize, no need for that at all.

Not even from the US and the most frightening thing about the entire event yesterday was the difference in police response when compared to BLM.

It's just absolutely insane to me.

The inauguration cannot happen on the 20th. Yesterday clearly showed that the capital police are deeply infiltrated with Trump loyalists who will not fulfill their duties.

They cannot in good faith allow the inauguration to go through with the department compromised as such.

So many times I've heard the Capital Police don't mess around and I thought they would never let rioters enter the building. Then a few hours later we're seeing all the pictures of rioters sitting at Pelosi's desk or at the Senate President's chair. This will blight their reputation forever and careers need to end over this.

The most depressing thing about yday is that despite how blatant this was the most likely outcome is nothing happening and barely anyone talking about white privilege a few days from now

I'm pretty sure it's constitutionally mandated to happen. It doesn't all have to be public, however.
Most of the ceremony is pomp and circumstance.

This is how the status quo in this country works.

You don't seriously think that nutjobs who committed insurrection, the politicans and media that support them or the those voted for trump want to deal with something they think is a great thing and will dismiss as having any real impact if any.

After 9/11 all the institutions that got failed got a boost, expect mostly the same here. Very few people lost their jobs either who should've as well.

It's intentional when your country runs on nepotism and racism.

Meanwhile in Atlanta:
"Officers arrested 22 protesters Wednesday night in downtown Atlanta, according to police.
The protesters gathered near Centennial Olympic Park one day after a Wisconsin prosecutor announced he will not file charges against an officer who shot a Black man over the summer, leaving him paralyzed."

First of all, be less mean. Second, "no amount of security"? LOL wut? It is the nations capital. They could have had the military there, not just the national guard(that also wasn't there). If "no amount of security" can protect our capital then we are well and truly fucked.

Yep, I guess more specifically what's depressing is that no one that can force them to take responsibility. Even just the fact that Ted Cruz will continue to be given the time of day is disgusting

In one of the foreign news org segments one of the terrorists said it plainly 'This is our house'. That's about the extent of this. White supremacists taking back what they feel they're losing.

Unless you're Antifa......

Racism is a component but this is power struggle. If you're rittenhouse or these guys you're a patriotric and defending your rights. If you're Michael Reinoehl barely anyone remembers you or the fact cops didn't give same treatment as a racist church killer. Rittenhouse was worse people were pointing him out and cops just went on by in the moment it happened. They say we can't defund the police, why the fuck not?

They are selectively hypocritical, which few in the media point out.

This...confirmed it for y'all? I hate the hot takes online with people saying "This wouldn't have happened if they were BLM activists!" and like...yeah duh. That's like learning the sky was blue yesterday or the sun is hot
