White people shouldn't be allowed to own sombreros.

Sombreros can be worn by anyone...its if they are purposely creating a caricature which includes a sombrero is where I would have a problem.
I have more problem with your Dad voting Trump than to think about the sombreros (and actually I don't mind any people wear them but expect being laughed by mexican people) . But it is kinda weird put mini sombreros (first time I hear this) in a Christmas tree.
I'd be more curious about why the sombreros as whether fair or not, people treat them like some sort of representation of Mexican people. Were they just trolling or what?
As a white person, one of the interesting things is a lot of us don't have a collective identity. So it interests me that a family got together and said hey let's wear a Mexican hat for Christmas. I thrive on my lack of collective identity because I'm a milquetoast mofo.
Then again I'm in Hawai'i and there's an island off the coast of Oahu named China man's hat. My reaction was no that's not fucking okay. Everyone I was with was very confused at my aggression.

Most cowboy hats are based on vacquero hats. So again Mexico gets all the cool hats.

EVERYONE should wear a sombrero. Wear a sombrero no matter who you are or what you believe in. Wear a sombrero whenever you want.
