Just a random pair of questions I thought up off the top of my head.

Single-player games that don't have multi-player......yet!

I don't know if it counts but sometimes i wish Resident Evil 5 wouldn't have a coop mp mode so that i could play the game in singleplayer without the partner AI being annoying and turning the whole game into a escort mission (and not the good type of escort mission). Dead Space 3 also really suffered from being a coop game.

Breath of the Wild would benefit from multiplayer. being able to explore together and all the cool new tricks you could do with another player in that game would be sweet.

I could see NieR: Automata being cool with multiplayer with how it splits up the routes but it might be tricky.

I think a game like destiny would be better if it was a "huge worlds" single player RPG. all in all though i think all multiplayer games need an offline and or single-player mode. at the very least it gives players a safe way to learn mechanics and get familiar with their surroundings.

When it comes to removing MP, a lot of people have this misconception that it would automatically translate into funds for the SP mode. In all likelyhood, it would just mean having a lower budget, as you would remove a tangible sales argument (multiplayer) that also offers great opportunities for post-launch monetization.

I think a game like destiny would be better if it was a "huge worlds" single player RPG.

"I think immensly succesful video game would be better if you took away its main brand pillar" is a hell of a take right there.

All of my frustrations with Destiny over the thousands of hours I've played have all been multiplayer and/or online related. A single player deep RPG set in the Destiny universe would have me way more excited to play than what they currently offer. don't think that's that shocking of a take bud.

Definetly Destiny. I thought the Grimoire in the first was dope and i really like their art direction, but not really into multiplayer stuff.

Also really wished Sekiro had soulslike summon stuff, because i really suck at those bosses

Metro Series
Doom(coop)
Rage 2
Surge 2 coop/pvp
Zelda
Horizon

Don't think any game shouldn't have mp.

Agents of Mayhem is a hero shooter from the same devs who made Saints Row. It felt like people forgot it ever existed a week after launch.

It's single-player only. In a time where people were getting bombarded with multiplayer games, this was the one case where almost everybody thought it could at least do with a co-op mode.

Spec Ops: The Line's review scores were hurt by its multiplayer. It was outsourced, unnecessary, and not very good. The servers were dead unsurprisingly soon.

The poor quality of the MP was more of a detriment than the lack of content would have been in its absence.

Grand theft auto V would benefit the most from no online mode. Without GTA Online Rockstar might have given that game world the story experiences it deserves.

I'm still salty they never released a stories from Los santos and basically turned the game world into Saints Row: San Andreas instead of expanding it in brand. They also ruined characters and turned them into ridiculous caricatures in the online mode, like Lester. Lester was kind of a weird loner in the story but turned into a sort of sex crazed creepy deviant psychopath in GTA Online. Worse still is that GTAO is supposed to be a prequel to GTAV, but it's so ridiculous and over the top that's just ... Not believable. I wish they committed to that in GTAO.

Game that would benefit from an online mode is a tougher question for me... Because so many online modes are quick cash ins today it's tough for me to say. Dishonored isnone of my favorite IPs but I'd hate to see it get ruined or get a half ass mode which I think it would.

If we're talking about co-op, Dragon's Dogma.
Good answer. I hope it's something they consider for the sequel.

The foundation for fun teamwork is all already there, at least when it comes to the combat, so it doesn't need anything tacked on or changed significantly.
It probably would've sold a lot better if people had the option to bring even 1 friend along for the ride (even if it doesn't quite work for the lore reasons or whatever with pawns).

Agreed. A story driven sci-fi shooter in the destiny world would have been really compelling to me too. Like, a serious sci-fi shooting game with great Bungie-like mechanics with a real story and real player motivations.

I can see the Just Cause series benefiting from online multiplayer/co-op. Seems like it'd be cool as hell to explore and cause mayhem in those worlds with friends. I remember watching Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod videos forever ago thinking how fun it looked and how I couldn't wait till they implemented it in future Just Cause games. Shame it has yet to happen (officially at least).

I agree with Destiny being single player focused would be a far better game.
Vindication!

The first Dishonored deserved a competitive MP.
It has the qualities of a top tier FPS arena.

Despite the Fallout 76 episode, I still think there's potential for a Fallout / Elder Scrolls game that allows for a sort of hosted multiplayer, kinda like what Outward tried.

Edit: As for Remove, I don't really have a good answer. I guess I'd say DOOM, but that's already the case with Eternal, right?

Imagine what Fallout 76 could have been if it was designed with 3 player co-op in mind, though.
Instead of being designed entirely around, uh, the Atom Shop, which in turn necessitated the weird Pv??? 24player MMO approach that 76 shipped with.
At least now I'll never make the mistake of buying a Bethesda RPG day one again, not now that I know what BGS is all about these days.

Right? That would be SO GOOD.
Not enough incentive for micro-transactions there, though.
I feel like F76 and the Atom Shop give off a clear signal.
It says: don't expect any future approach to ES/FO MP that isn't designed around enabling BGS to exploit your FOMO for money.

Another vote for Destiny beeing a better game if they went with a story based singleplayer concept instead of this forgettable pseudo-competitive mmo fps mix.

Peace Walker could've lost the multiplayer, to scale the boss fights to not take 5 hours when played solo.

Nier Automata having Co-op local multiplayer would've been a blast. Hell, I can't think of any games developed by Platinum (except maybe Wonderful 101) that wouldn't be fun as hell with local multiplayer.

Remove is easy, there are lots of mid to late last gen titles with tacked on MP modes trying to chase the COD money that are better off not existing. Bioshock 2, Tomb Raider, Condemned 2, Crysis series, Dead Space 2 (DS3's co-op can go too it added nothing to the game), FEAR series, Singularity, just to name some examples. None of these game's MP modes had any staying power and those resources would have been better spent elsewhere. I think Crysis may have retained a small population, but I found the MP to be extremely generic.

And while it's a massive financial success, I agree with what someone said above about GTA V. Ruined any chance of the good single player DLC that GTA IV received. It changed Rockstar for the worse as well.

Struggling to think of a game to add MP to that would work out in its favor....maybe Dishonored? The ingredients are there for an interesting asymmetrical MP experience. 1 assassin vs 4 or 5 guards trying to protect a target, something like that.

Doom Eternal does have multiplayer, this time done in-house. I think they're doing invasion too, where you get to jump in as a demon to someone's SP run. No traditional Deathmatch, as far as I know.
