This song was just featured on the show Yellowjackets. I had never heard the song until then and I added it to a bunch of playlists.

I mean shows use songs all the time I don't think it will have the impact running up that hill had. It's only had the impact it did because of the way they used it and how brilliantly it was executed into the plot and of course the epic scene with max in episode 4
Also, not sure if it's old enough...but young people probably aren't familiar with Common People by Pulp, yeah? I could see it in a certain type of series

The popularity of Stranger Things can't be underestimated, but Running Up That Hill is also a very unique song that people keep rediscovering. It's a hit for Bush in '86 in like a dozen countries. Placebo cover it in 2003, it gets featured in The OC and immediately charts again. Meg Myers covers it in 2019 and it charts once again and gets a ton of airplay. Like legitimately 2 years ago it was still all over rock radio.
It'll be tough to repeat those conditions. If it does it'll have to be the rare song that is popular enough to resurface every decade or so but also remains underrated.

It's really hard to say because despite being only 21, a good half or so of the songs on my phone/computer are just songs from my parents old music library and I don't really know what's still popular or not. Anyway, out of songs I can think of that are deserving of being exposed to a younger audience that I don't think are already known (so no Metallica, Van Halen, Nirvana, Megadeth etc)

Did it? Because all the versions on iTunes were all crappy quality and/or mono up until the version from the Strangers Things soundtrack hit. I remember hearing it on the radio a few years back and trying to find a good quality version to buy but there weren't any on iTunes that I could find that weren't mono or otherwise poor quality
