I'd say that while there isn't a real answer, I would at least volunteer that Nintendo is more entertaining to root for. When Nintendo is doing great, it's great, and when they're doing bad, it's entertaining and at all times fascinating in a way that's hard to explain eloquently.
ThatsaThats because nintendo has alot of character. Quirky. Focused. They are the master toymaker.
Sony on the other hand has such an absurd volume of good games, and yet there's something about Sony that feels secular in a way that isn't as exciting to cheer for even though pound for pound Sony is unrivaled.
That because sony should have a cold character. I mean they do, but I say 'should', because that's how I like them. It's starting to get all fan-sy. You said 'secular', and that's a good word to partially describe it, which is as good as you could hope for. Sony is an electronics company. Not terribly exciting aside from the occasional aibo.
When I think of sony, I think of
It's a lil badge. I think i'd prefer a yamaha badge. Yamaha has a cooler logo. Anyway, its the company that makes the thing that you bought to do the thing you want. Decent electronics have a little badge stuck on them. Be it sony or yamaha, it's just a sign that its made by a reputable outfit.
But of course sony had to do a little more than just make a box, like a stereo receiver. They had to bring content onto the platform, publish, Etc. It was more like betamax. They had a proprietary platform to get off the ground. They had to make sure there was shit on it.
That prolonged content effort led to the major game development that they're up to these days. And that leads to characters. And to stories. And eventually, fandom.
And that's weird to me. But it's not unpleasant or anything. I can still confidently purchase this unremarkable black box, stick it under my TV, and forget about it. Then just think about games. Keepin it secular.
