I fucking love the Cainhurst armor from Bloodborne.

It actually gave me chills for some reason when I noticed that there's a jawbone with teeth underneath the main layer.

That part is subtle and yet so damn beautiful.

The shardplates of Gavilar and Ehlokar in the Stormlight Archive look pretty badass:

In general shardplates sound pretty badass, but these are our only official illustrations of em in general so I'll go with these.

Not a fan of massively overdesigned armours. I'm not against pauldrons or some ornate finery but some stuff just goes way overboard at times. Here's some I do like:

Drakeblood (left) and Forlorn (right) armour sets from Dark Souls 2:

Bayek's black hood armour in AC Origins:

It can be from a movie, book, TV show, game, or any other form of media.

I really like Leon Belmont's armor from Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. Unfortunately, you never see him in this in-game, because he renounces his knighthood before the game starts. As such, it exists only in concept art - and as a cameo in the Netflix series.

It's overly flashy, but that's just my style.

I've never played any Castlevania games, but that looks incredible. I hate that most fantasy armor looks like nonsensical bulky garbage with spikes and shit everywhere. The example above of a reasonably historical garb with mail, plate, and some nice heraldry is far more to my liking.

For my pick, I'd probably go with Creighton the Wanderer from Dark Souls II.

I'm a total sucker for surcoats/scapulars.

Agreed with your entire post. Creighton's armour is one of my favourites too.

The Alva armour design is great too:

Always love armor sets with winged helms, the best is Hrist from Valkyrie Profile:

And also the Dragoon armor in Final Fantasy, especially the XI and XIV variations:

From a pure design standpoint, I appreciate when a futuristic or retro-futuristic armor actually looks like there was some thought about how you put it together. Retro futurism often success at this because designers are given constrains dictated by the world building.

Sorry about the Third Reich parade, but I think the new Wolfenstein games have some great designs.

Also props to Bethesda's redesign of their version of the power armor going into Fallout 4. One thing they legitimately improved from Fallout 3..

Not the prettiest armors, but at least they look mechanically capable.

Weirdly hard to find good pics of these but, Commodus from Gladiator

Also impossible to find a decent pic but Marc Antony (HBO Rome) had a killer black armor with a fur cape, this is the best I can find at the moment

Hindarsfjall Armor from Witcher 3.

I like that it's mostly just mail and padding.

It's pretty much what I'd wear in that world.

Its like I'm having a mental block but the Nightingale armor from Skyrim comes to mind. Mass Effect too was full of keen armor sets. Blood Dragon, N7,etc
