When will it begin to sound ridiculous for the narrator to announce the next mainline Final Fantasy?

The moment you got to double-digits, probably. I would have dropped the numbers there, and started giving each entry a proper subtitle at that point.
I've long thought that the numbers sounded a little silly once we hit double digits, sequels to numbers and had online and offline games mixed together... and I also think that they might sometimes work against the series. I've said for a while they'd be better off with just subtitles (Like, Final Fantasy: The Zodiac Age is a great name), but the problem I guess is that the series has so much going on, so many spin-offs and side games of very varying quality that the numbers are the only thing that serve to differentiate between the rest of the franchise and the games that really matter.
Narrator, what? Which FF game have you played before? This isn't RE.
OP, what FF were you playing? FF barely ever has narrators (usually when it does its one of the characters themselves), and never have them said the title out loud...

Patrick Stewart narrated a FF XII commercial, maybe bring him back as a moogle.
Oh yeah fair enough. On a related now, I really enjoyed the 'previously on Final Fantasy XIII-2' that Toriyama put into the sequel. I thought it was a really smart simple idea for people coming back to the game after a break.
