Blizzard games don't appeal to me anyways, so I'll be skipping the game.

I'll skip it because I don't like Blizzard games anyway but that's just subjective obviously. I'd try to be strong if I did, yes.

Diablo 3 looked good at launch, until we saw how horrible the underlying systems are.

And there is also the overlying issue with Blizzard.

Depends if Blizzard changes their stance in the future. In the now I'd say I have no plans of buying D4. I've already deleted my Blizzard account though, and I'm not in the mood of signing up again anytime soon.

Why would I do that? It seems a good game so far.

And I am pretty sure it will sell quite well; I have seen this pattern so many times where people say they will boycott something for so-called "ethical" reasons then happily purchased it under disguise. It has happened for, IDK, 3 times so far on Era (EA, Atlus, R*)? Plus Netease will help Blizzard boost their sales in Mainland China greatly; D3 expansion sells >1 million there even before launch.

Man, I still haven't played Diablo 3 and I bought that on launch day. Expansion too lol.

Hot take: By the time this game comes out (I will probably be filing for social security lol) i think the majority will forget about Blizzards handling of the situation. The internet will probably have already moved on to a dozen or he controversies in gaming. That's just how society's mindset and attention span generally works.

I am buying Diablo 4 just as I will pay for OW2 and the WoE expansion.

far as I've seen people aren't actually as angry as they say they are about this. the like/dislike ratio on all the new trailers is extremely mild. ive seen games get worse for much less ostensibly serious offenses.

anyways ive never really had any interest in their games so I'm not really making a statement by saying the new ones dont interest me.

their apology seems bad but I didn't expect anything different, and don't really think worse of them than most big companies which try to dodge politics whenever possible. there are issues with some aspects of the hong kong protests such as the slurs used when lebron didnt support it or the weirdly heavy focus on appealing to trump in protest signs.

and also the sense that some western republican people just want china to be torn apart so the US can claim its "rightful place".

however overall i think its a good cause and accept that no culture is perfect.

anyways I don't really know what I'd do if blizzard was my fav dev or something. id definitely be less enthused about their stuff by default, i guess.

I am thinking in terms of ethics, will you consider yourself weak if you buy the game(thinking about Hong-Kong stuff)or not? Some people say westerners have no barebone because they criticize but never really boycott or stand fir their beliefs... How do you feel about this?
Keep in mind you are talking to gamers.

If its good I'll buy it, if not then skipping it. Although if they pull off a Reaper of Souls then I'll get it by then.

Personally I wont but thats because I just don't enjoy Blizzard's work anymore and with Overwatch, being one of the few recent games that I did, simply being corporate wokeness for profit in its inclusivity has only hightened my dislike of their work.

I get that the Lucio line about heroes not listening to politicians was recorded before all of this but the trailer could've been edited out. It's in bad taste after the whole "keep politics out of our games" shit they immediately tried to pull.

But will echo others and say it comes down to the individual in regards to what they choose to support.

Personally, right now I don't feel like supporting them. Half of the reasoning is because of the shite way they're handling things. Hollow apology and all. I don't play WoW or Overwatch, but Diablo is a long time favorite of mine (and that cgi trailer got me hyped!). As another poster said, the game is maybe two years out? Plenty of time to change my mind.

My problem with a personal boycott of any mass media product is the only person in the situation of me skipping a game I want who will experience any tangible effect is me. The effect the company will feel is intangible to them, yet I will be missing out and actually feel the weight of it all.

If I don't purchase it, the company will not notice. But I will.

Is that selfish? Maybe inherently, yes, but I don't see a point in punishing myself when I believe there are more tangible ways to make a difference to causes you are passionate about.

You are basically asking the same boycott question that's been asked a million times.

No, not all of us are boycotting.

No, that doesn't mean you can't just because someone else isn't. Make your own decisions, you don't need validation from randoms on the internet.

Given the fact that it's still "beyond Blizzard TBD" release date wise, Blizz has like 3 years to make things right before it comes out.

One nice thing about boycotting Blizzard is that thier games have gotten so bad I wouldnt be buying Overwatch 2, Diablo 4 or WOW Expac #12 anyway

amazing, all the people who never played diablo before wont be buying d4, i guess there is technically a 7 billion person protest for d4. We've won everyone.

I'll be completely honest here.

If I could buy and play it RIGHT NOW, I would without thinking twice.

Who knows, a lot can happen over the next year or three. I wasn't impressed by Brack's comments on the Blitzchung situation, so I'm left feeling pretty hollow about Blizzard moving forward.

(I'd probably take a wait and see approach to Diablo 4 even if Blizzard reinstated Blitzchung tomorrow; I'm not super stoked about its direction so far. Boycotting a game is easy if it doesn't appeal to you in the first place.)

Will probably get D4 and the upgrade to OW2 to play the SP tbh

The being said of course ill look around for deals and the such but push come to shove and I have people ready to go on day one...welp.
(but its ok because D4 launch will probably be a disaster lmao)

It really isn't that hard to avoid a game. Some of y'all treat this like it's heroine.

Eh, if the game is good, maybe? Typically, I don't even buy Blizzards game's simply because they don't interest me.

I mean, y'all realize everything you own and use is pretty much made in China, right? Boycotting Blizzard might make you feel good because, you did a thing, I guess. But it's merely a pointless gesture. Sure, some genuinely care, but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of folks are motivated only because it feels neat to be part of something that others are doing.

Like, cool, you installed "green" lightbulbs in your apartment, but nearly everything else you do is contributing to the slow degradation and destruction of the planet. It satisfies your personal sense of "making a difference", when in reality it's not doing anything meaningful.

And no, I'm not advocating the cynical and myopic non-solution of doing absolutely nothing. I admit that I don't know what the solution is. If I knew what that was, I would have proposed it by now. I do support discussion, of course. That should never be discouraged. Perhaps in time a viable and actionable solution will be found, hopefully.

Edit

Please, do not quote me if you're going cherry pick or use my words out of context. I see that way too much. It's a shitty and stupid debate tactic. I just won't bother responding. In fact, it's a reason why I don't bother in a lot of these discussions because it is far too rampant. I just hate wasting my time.

Don't care. Will buy probably. None of the megacorps we buy all our shit from have clean hands, you'll drive yourself nuts trying to moralize your own buying habits. No sane person has time for that.

Same thing I'll do with with anything else coming from Blizzard in the future. I'll pick up a used copy for console well after it comes out when it's like $20-$30 on Amazon. Still giving 'em the middle finger through the second hand market. For DLC/Expacs I'll get them only if they're on a deep sale and nothing else. I'm going to have my cake and eat it too. Fuck you Blizzard.

Boycotting will only work to an extent. Companies will always find ways to get away with stuff behind the public's back.

Therefore, pushing for lasting legislation will do a more permenant job.

I won't buy World of Warcraft (MMOs are bad for me anyway, and I don't want to participate in this Skinner's Box experiment anymore).
I won't buy Warcraft 3 Reforged.
I won't buy Overwatch 2 (the hypocrisy behind this licence is downright sickening).
And I am not planning to buy Diablo 4. I would like to, but if I buy it knowing what I know now I would feel like a complete hypocrite. So, at this point in time, it's a no, and I am looking at other similar games that I ignored this far instead (Path of Exile; Lost Ark; etc).

NO, nothing.
Because if I bought, then all these protests means nothing, all these words means nothing, just like Blizzard's empty apology, I am a man of no integrity.

There are plenty of studios out there producing great games, CD Projekt, From, Obsidian... they will keep me busy.

If Weinstein produces another great movie, would you go and watch?

I'll happily following along how the game shapes up,(I love Diablo games) but unless blizzard does something more than just empty words on stage, I doubt I'll be buying it. I guess this is where I draw my line.
