i'm not going to go into details, but there's been a lot of mental health related deaths on my campus, and the school has been scrabbling to 'answer' to the epidemic. their health center is notoriously really, really, really inefficient, slow, and often times outright unhelpful. the school has been criticized for this multiple times, even before the epidemic, but it only just now decided to address them by doubling the staff and adding a long-term health care ward -- yes, i'm serious, it didn't have anything. if you were someone who needed long-term care, like ptsd, or a chronic illness, like bipolar, idk, here's a referral, go somewhere else, lol.
so i'm glad something is being done, but, two things--
1) there's 40 psychologists and 4 psychiatrists, split between two campuses. that means they added 2 psychiatrists. really think about that. this is not a tiny campus. it's huge. i'm not gonna say, but if you're really curious, i don't make it a secret here.
2) there was a meeting regarding the epidemic where the students were able to voice their concerns. i was there, happy to have myself and others be heard, but one of the admins said that our complaints about the health center was 'spreading misinformation' and discouraging people from going to get help. like. what. listen, i want people to get counselling in these trying times, but, like, THESE REASONS have contributed to why we are here, talking about this.
the student body has really come together to support each other, and that warms my heart, but the school... ugh. mess.
