Probably Hades. I'd never played a roguelike before so the idea of not being particularly mad about having to restart was something I wasn't sure was possible

Cyberpunk 2077 was the most recent game I played and finished on PC. It was really, really good and never boring for 130 hours. One of the best games from 2020.

Before that I played Wasteland 3 and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Both of these were also truly fantastic.

I just finished Bugsnax a few days ago, and I legit thought the game was absolutely fantastic. From the gameplay of actually catching snaks and the plot and characters. It was just a fun game that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Superliminal. played it a couple weeks ago for the first time and was like "ok yeah this is a special game" last game before that was FF7R because i absolutely loved the combat and presentation in that game.

Astro's Playroom honestly. The music is so catchy, the collectibles are so silly yet loving, the bots themselves are cute. It was such a great tone setter for the PS5.

Hades. Definitely in my top 10 favorite games of all time. i realized it after I lost to the second phase of the final boss for the first time.

Half-Life Alyx, probably.

Just the initial feeling of wow, this is everything I expected and more
And then the feeling not subsiding

Yeah, nothing else came close in recent memory.

Just started playing Hitman yesterday and I've nearly completed all the levels in the first game already. Genuinely love it and should have gotten into the series sooner.

For newer release, I loved just about every moment of Yakuza: Like a Dragon. I am impossibly excited to see what the future of the franchise holds. I had outrageously high hopes for Ichiban but he is somehow a much better character than I ever expected.

As for what I played most recently: I just recently started playing Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana and absolutely consider it a masterpiece. I always liked the Ys series, but this game is just on another level.

Hades and Wasteland 3. Two strong contenders for my GOTY and both top 10 games of the generation imo.

Honestly I've been bouncing between three games

Hades
Disco Elysian
Ghost of Tsushima

All so different but each had amazing moments kept me entertained throughout. Before that it was doom eternal. Oh and also demons souls remake

A lot of great games played in 2020

On first impression in the last year or so...

Slay the Spire - first card game I gave a chance and I've become addicted
The Surge 2 - massive improvement over the original game, great feel to combat, HAMMER FO LIFE

Only played an hour or so of Disco Elysium but I can tell it is special.

Immortals Fenyx Rising.
I frequently caught myself thinking "goddamn I'm really having fun rn".
Just an overall extremely enjoyable game. Doesn't overstay its welcome either, which is sadly a frequent problem with otherwise great Ubisoft games.

Two games that made me feel that way with no caveats:

Super Mario Galaxy when replaying it in 3D All Stars. Really reminded me how goddamn amazing those Galaxy games are.

And before that The Last of Us 2, loved every element of it.

Potential unorthodox pick but Astro's Playroom.

Endless charm, incredible PlayStation fan service, fun platforming, soundtrack that slaps, etc. I had a huge smile on my face the entire time. It's rare for me to feel genuine joy when playing a video game.

Doom Eternal had a LOT of that on my first playthrough.

I think I went from "This is so good" to "This is fantastic" by Super Gore Nest, to "This is fucking incredible" by the big restaurant fight in Arc Complex, and then straight to "Best FPS I've ever played" by Mars.

Before that, it was Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.

The Last of Us Pt. 2 and Hades. They're legitimately two of the best experiences I've had with video games.

The newest that I really loved? Might be Hades, I enjoy roguelikes but dread not progressing at all. Hades solved that.

The one that left me amazed...Bloodborne. I mean...come on!

Astral Chain, I had middling expectations, but it really is a top tier Platinum action game, with some unique twists.

really? this game looked so good in previews, but when it came out, it looked like generic anime trash. Not sure why, I love platinum, I even pre-ordered the game. It's still sitting on my switch, what's special about it?

Slay the Spire. It was kind of a different thing for me, and I didn't really know what it was like going in. After playing it just once for a test drive, I found myself wanting to go back and keep trying. I've played plenty of fantastic games, but it's rare after all these years to catch myself so off-guard. (I just played it this past December, so it's still fresh on my mind.)
