This, but add Switch to weakest.
I'm struggling to find a good launch lineup.
N64 and Switch were pretty bad though.
Edit: The poll is hot garbage, it doesn't include a single Playstation console. Why even make a poll then?
Polls options are limited to seven. I had the choice between the Wii or the PS2 (as it was the strongest/less weak launch lineup for a Playstation in my eyes) as the 7th option, I went for the Wii because of games like Zelda: TP or Wii Sports.
It wasn't just Super Mario 64, both Wave Race 64 and Pilotwings 64 were also era defining games back when they were released in 1996.Have to say the N64 is the worst. Abysmal number of games at launch, only saved by launching with one of the best games ever made in Super Mario 64.
I think Gamecube's first year was incredible when you look at exclusives :
- Luigi's Mansion
- Star Wars Rogue Leader 2: Rogue Squadron
- Wave Race Blue Storm
- Super Monkey Ball
- Super Smash Bros Melee
- Pikmin
- Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
- Resident Evil remake
- Eternal Darkness
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Animal Crossing
- Starfox Adventures
- Mario Party 4
- Resident Evil 0
- Metroid Prime
I don't understand why it failed so bigly. It was as powerful as the PS2 and the Xbox, has third-party support, the marketing was good and the 2 first years were packed (and even has big exclusives like Star Wars and Resident Evil).
And the pricing policy was extremely aggressive (the most aggressive ever for a console with the OG Xbox ?) :
- 199$ at launch in november 2001
- 149$ as soon as May 2002
- 99$ in September 2003 (less than 2 years after launch)
This is really curious for me.
Maybe the lack of a DVD player played a big part.

Wave Race 64 was one of the earliest attempt at a physic simulation driven game applied to 3D (the water/wave simulation is a core feature of the game)
Pilotwings 64 sense of scale in 3D and how you could seamlessly travel from one point of the map to an opposite distant point was unmatched at the time, the best example of which is Little States (a condensed reproduction of the USA):
Many forget what was the situation in term of 3D concepts at the time on consoles.
Super Mario 64, Wave Race 64 and Pilotwings 64 were all doing concepts in full 3D that were very forward thinking.
