First of all i actually think the project is cool, Google is probably the best company for this kind of service and if they make it right this will be their next gold mine no doubt, but seriously this reveal was soo weird and confusing.
1) Who was this conference for?
- If it was for developers why making it public? Just work in the background like Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo always do each gen and reveal the product only when it's done. Developers want to know how committed is Google to this, if it is worth investing in this platform, if Google believes they can have a leadership in this industry.
- If it was for us consumers, the presentation was really poor. We don't know when this thing is launching, what we should expect at launch in terms of catalogue, what games to look forward, pricing...
2) Games-wise there was very little news we didn't know already. We already knew they can stream AC Odyssey with decent resolution and frame rate with Project Stream. They kept mentioning that game so many times during the conference and Doom, i suspect because they don't have anything else.
3) First-party situation is already looking bad. They showed two tech demos which by the way they weren't even that flawless, no games. Are they keeping those secret for future events? Jade Raymond announced on stage as the head of Stadia Games and Entertainment she will create new first party studios working on games, even with external developers and third party partners, big and small, but does that mean you are starting this now? Development of AA/AAA games take 2-3 years minimum, what are you planning to do in the meanwhile?
We don't even know if there is a real game behind these demos.
After this, i think Google really needs to sell us Stadia better at I/O and most importantly E3, with game announcements because if they don't show up at gaming events like E3 and Gamescom, then they will never reach the meat and potato of this industry.
