I would like it if they actually spent the time to fix their SNES remasters so they finally work as fast as they originally did... but i haven't played any recently so maybe they did?

Vagrant story or parasite eve, we need more action horror games beside resident evil.

I love the idea of adding in more content on Disc 2, but even with SaGa Frontier Remastered setting sky-high standards, I'd never, ever get my hopes up for it. The heartbreak would be brutal.

That said, honestly? Even an as-is Xenogears HD would make me melt.

I love Parasite Eve 1 and 2. I also love Xenogears. This is hard.

Would probably go with PE because that game has had a much bigger impact on me than most.

If Xenogears was guaranteed to have the disc 2 content that never the light of the day tho....I would probably go with that.
I'm with you - hard choice here. Xenogears is one of my favorite RPGs of all time. I have a copy of Perfect Works and, as someone who doesn't collect figurines at all, I even have a mini Zohar Modifier trinket sitting on my bedroom dresser. Unless it was done under the most ideal circumstances, I'm not even sure I'd want an expanded Disc 2 content. It may be an unpopular opinion, but I think adding content to the game in a sub-par way has a greater chance of causing more harm than good since its already a very long RPG. Poorly paced, repetitive, or grindy new content could obliterate the flow of the game, especially since pacing was never its strong suit.

That said, even though I hold dear Xenogears far more than Parasite Eve, a remaster package of PE1 + 2 would be too good to pass up. Those games are excellent and they could use a coat of remaster paint more than Xenogears. Plus, Parasite Eve is an IP I'd love to see get a new entry on modern consoles.

[Xenogears] is littered with a hodgepodge of -confusing- themes of existentialism, religion, psychology and -mythology- that also over-extends it's -reach-.
These are features, not bugs. :)

Xenogears, but I'm not interested in anything being added. The people who created the game are gone and I wouldn't want anyone else adding to it. It is what it is, for better or worse.

I like the idea of Xenogears more than the game itself. Tbh it should just stay dead. It isn't good no matter what you add to it

I'd be down for a competent Xenogears since I haven't played it, but it sounds most unlikely for the amount of work needing to be put in. Brave Fencer Musashi was one of my favorite games as a kid, so I really really want that one. Vagrant Story feels like it should get one but who knows when. I figured Saga Frontier II was a given.

Maybe don't be so toxic as to feel the need to ridicule people with different opinions to yours.

I'll make note of that, and I'll eventually put it on my to-do list.

I definitely agree with most of your points (especially with the games pacing), but if that game gets the remaster/remake treatment, it needs a ton of work to make it into a more coherent experience than what the PS1 version currently is. I honestly don't know if Tetsuya Takahashi would even be interested to revisit Xenogears and see what he would do, but it would be interesting to see him tackle a remaster/remake project after the years of experience gained from directing the Xenosaga and the Xenoblade series of games.

Please explain. Because I don't want to immediately ridicule you without hearing your reasoning why the games "excess" is a feature.

here's an unfinished six page google doc i have explaining why i like the game. it's representative of a time of unparalleled ambition in the industry. that's a lot more interesting and engaging to me than a game that's tuned to the nines. No need to ridicule unless you got into the hobby to bully others

Xenogears has the most to gain from a remaster. It's also the only one that I can see being remade in 3D without losing its visual identity. Parasite eve would need an RE2 remake scope level imo to be a worthy remake vagrant story is fantastic but I don't see its visuals surviving the upgrade

Considering what he's been doing with Xenoblade, I wouldn't want him touching Xenogears. I don't trust him not to ruin it. There's no one I trust to add content to Xenogears. If they ever did a remaster or remake, I would want it to be 100% faithful to the original game.

Can we get some N64, GBA and DS stuff instead? I dislike how they keep ignoring that stuff. I want Ogre Battle 64, Knight of Lodis, FFTA and FFTA2 etc.

PE2 is as good as PE1 and actually better in some areas ( as PE1 better than PE2 in some areas ).

These two games complete each others.

I love PE1. The setting, the story, the gameplay. I don't dislike PE2 but I hate tank controls and I think the setting is meh and the story is well below PE1 for me. Gameplay, other than tank controls, is still great!

100% Vagrant Story. It's Matsuno's masterpiece, only being held bad by slow load speeds and bad UI in the menus.

Honestly this makes even more sense to me now. These are probably the least accessible games now for the most part without searching for an old copy, or something capable of buying a digital copy. A modern port of some those would be awesome

Would the mods notice if I voted for not just Xenogears, but also SaGa Frontier 2, if only to give it more votes?

Yes? Because I'm still a mod? Damn it.

Thank you! I'd love to finish it up one day though I also am far away enough from having played it initially that i'd have to give it another go around

This is the good shit. You summed up a great deal of my passion for the game. I wrote something similar for my "job application" for RPGFan, which I can thank for getting me into the industry at large now. I'm not convinced what I wrote can rival this, however. You really pulled out all the stops. Let me know when it's all polished up and good to go - I'd love to read the complete version.

Firstly, no, I didn't get into this hobby to bully others for their opinions. That's just ridiculous.

And from what I have read of this document, I fully respect that you've taken the time to write why you think Xenogears is a JRPG that holds up where it counts, and how the games most memorable traits embody concepts and themes (giant robots that factor into the story-line, the origins of life and God, Judeo-Christian iconography, powerful human-shaped super-weapons that play a critical role in the narrative, etc.) that Takahashi holds dear to his heart 20+ years after that game was released. Really, I do respect that the guy wanted to create an ambitious science fiction RPG as his directorial debut, even if it over-extends it's reach. There's even this fun article that covers the development of Gears and Saga's development, if you want to read it with a cup of hot coca.

But for me, the games flaws really stick out to me and it made the experience replaying it not all that fun for the long haul.

Chrono Trigger, with the SNES/PS1 translation, and none of the DS bonus content, but the DS load times.
