Can't remember if specifically hosted on Kickstarter but;

Godus - deep regrets and yes I'm ashamed

Wreckfest/next car Game - very proud. Fun game.

Project Cars - played it along the development process and didn't enjoy it, but no regrets as it seems to be a quality game and now franchise. Plus, for a while they were actually paying me with small royalty amounts.

Yooka Laylee - still haven't played it. Disappointed it never got a Pro patch. No regrets though, the sidescroller followup was great.

Collosal Kaiju Combat.

We got that demo released on Steam and then the updates kind of went quiet after that I believe. I had to go looking through their forums to find out that it was cancelled.

Backed Mighty Number 9 back in the day. Don't regret it just because the game was bad. I got what I paid for.

Currently 3 things backed:

Sea of Stars
Gamedec
Resident Evil 3 The Board Game

Really looking forward to all three! :)

copying this from the last thread about this — fuck ZNAPS. (For those that don't know it was a MagSafe type connector for usb 3 and USBC that was a complete scam.

The $3m scam ZNAPS.

I can't say what I truly feel about the creators or I'd be eating a ban... I'll just say that they are scammers and Kickstarter is fucking garbage for not doing anything to rectify the issue.

Edit : There are others I'd backed and regretted, but this was the one that annoyed me the most purely because of KS doing zero to punish the organisers or aid backers.

Still bitter about it to this day and i know I'm not he only one. Game wise though Mighty No 9 and Shenmue though tbh I just wanted to see those get made rather than actually wanting them for myself so I'm not as upset as others might be.

Shenmue 3 only.

Dont regret it, but the way they treated the backers left a sour taste in the mouth.

Not gonna back any more games.

I've had such bad luck that it's soured me on backing anymore video games on there.

-Mighty No. 9
-Yooka-Laylee
-Power Drive 2000

You may not have heard of that last one, because it never came out.

That said, I've also played some real gems that needed crowdfunding to happen. I just have decided to wait until reviews these days though.

Ouya was a big mistake. Oh younger self, wish I could go back in time and warn myself.

Mighty No. 9, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, and Yooka-Laylee.

I regret all three. I played Mighty No. 9, thought it was meh, and haven't played the other two. I haven't backed a single project where I felt passionate about the end result. All kickstarting really means to me is pre-ordering something years in advance, and I just can't deal with that anymore.

Pillars of Eternity and Torment. Lukewarm on the first and regret the second. Not touching KS anymore unless it's Nier related.

I've only backed Bloodstained and I have zero regrets. I got in for a Wii U version and got a Switch copy instead so I got more than I was promised. Absolutely loved the game and the bonus game.

Mighty No.9 - Don't regret. I didn't pay a load of money like a lot of people did. I'm just glad I got to actually play it. It was okay at best.

Pinball Arcade machines T2, Addams Family, Dr.Who - Don't regret. Just sucks that they got removed from purchase because of the Williams license being up though.

Quiplash - Don't regret. Probably the best Jackbox game there is.

FictionSphere - TBD. Played it at Play-NYC last August and enjoyed it. Now I gotta wait and see if the final product is as good.

Petal Crash - Don't regret. Backed for the beta on Steam. I really need to get better at it though.

Hotline Miami's vinyl soundtrack is the only thing I've ever backed and I have no regrets at all. An actual game would need to look or sound truly special for me to back it.

Wonderful 101, mainly regret it because of the time. The AUD fell like mad like most currencies with Covid, so the currency conversion by the time I had to pay ended up costing me more than just buying it retail would lol. Not to mention it apparently doesn't run too well on Switch. While I want to support Platinum, I'm not feeling the benefit and feel like I should've just played it on my homebrewed Wii U...

24 that succeeded in their campaign, and 12 had the campaign fail/cancelled - italicized are non-game campaigns

AWAY: The Survival Series - An animal adventure game
Lust from Beyond
Where the Bees Make Honey
Deadly Premonition: The Board Game
System Shock
RiffTrax Live 2016: MST3K Reunion, Time Chasers Live & More!
Bring Back MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000

Divinity: Original Sin 2
Perception
On a Roll
Power Drive 2000
Wipebook 3 | The reusable whiteboard notebook
Pathologic(what became Pathologic 2)
Kôna - A Survival Adventure Game
Wipebook
Tangiers - Stealth driven by dark 20th century avant-garde
Satellite Reign
The Veronica Mars Movie Project
Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey
Knock-knock
Spirit of the Century Presents: The Dinocalypse Trilogy
Nekro
Starlight Inception
MANOS: The Restoration

Only Nekro and PowerDrive2000 I feel ripped off because the devs walked away with the money. Hopefully Tangiers doesn't join them, but ever since Paratopic, there hasn't been any updates for it and Jess Harvey doesn't seem intent on giving many. If I had twitter, id bug her about it.
Starlight and The Dinocalpyse trilogy were disappointing, so 20 of 24 is pretty good.

The only game I backed and hasn't come out yet is Ghost Song, but I see is Jobbs still working on it and gives update every now and then. I think it will eventually come out, and from what has been show, I think it will be worth the wait.

Thanks :)

With respect to a few people mentioning Ghost Song in this thread, I think it's understandable that some have regrets/concerns. The game was rebooted in 2018 in Unity, and early this year I partnered with a publisher (I can't say who yet, sorry, but it's a reputable publisher) to help finish the game. It's a lot of work, and I don't know that I'd ever do this again (large project as a solo dev), but I'm committed to seeing it through.

I've been keeping a somewhat low profile so far this year, and I'm still largely avoiding showing new stuff, but if anyone wants to kind of look at what the game looks and sounds like now, this is a video I made recently to demonstrate some of the weapons in the game to some people internally.

There are a lot more weapons that are not shown in this video, it doesn't spoil everything. The game also has a large map and several biomes, but I'm still not showing newer stuff yet and prefer to wait until the time is right (plus some of it is rather unfinished visually).

I am still working on the game full time and even hiring some assistance now with sound/music/voiceover thanks to my partnership. I understand that some people have concerns or regrets, and it's fully understandable that you do, but I'm still moving forward.

Broken Sword 5

Don't regret any of it. Put down a few hundred for it too as was really wanting it to happen. Got T-Shirts and multiple copes and Artbooks etc. so was really pleased.

Oh, and the game was good too!

Only game I've ever backed was Yooka Laylee. The most fun I had was the Toybox Demo, the actual game needed more time in the oven.

Not disappointed, but I'm just glad the company exists now.

I backed two:

- Broken Sword 5, which came out great and pretty much revived a classic studio from my childhood
- Project Wingman, which hasn't come out yet outside of a demo. Thankfully Ace Combat 7 came out, so I can hold off for this until it's ready, the demo plays wonderfully.

No regrets. I wouldn't have backed out anything else though.

I've backed a lot of games on Kickstarter and the only real turd was Elite Dangerous. Great graphics and sound design, but an abysmal turd of an empty online game.

Let's see:

  1. Pillars of Eternity - no regrets!
  2. Pier Solar HD - backed for the Dreamcast version, which I never received, and because I'm a lazy piece of shit I never contacted them. Still no regrets.
  3. Torment Tides of Numenera - some regrets (but only a little bit)
  4. Cosmic Star Heroine - No regrets!
  5. Celestian Tales: Old North - No regrets!
  6. Shenmue 3 - No regrets
  7. Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous - considering the first game shipped without a hitch as far as I know shouldn't be a problem
  8. Sea of Stars - Too early to tell, but they have one shipped game under their belt, so doesn't look like I have to worry
So, I have to say, as far as gaming KS go, I was either very fortunate or I just have a good eye on what to back and what's risky

Projects I backed and didn't regret:
The Wonderful 101
Root Double
Aviary Attorney
La-Mulana 2
A Hat in Time
Olympia Rising

Projects I backed, still waiting for the delivery but confident:
The Good Life
Knuckle Sandwich

Projects I backed and totally regret:
Shenmue III (300 dollars... good thing I got a refund. Yikes)
Mighty N9 (18 dollars... I never played it lol)

Projects I wished I backed and regret not doing so:
Muv-Luv Trilogy (those would've been better spent instead of Shenmeh 3).

  • The Wonderful 101: Remastered
    101% worth it
  • The Good Life
Not really a game I expect to play but it's Swery, gotta see what he's cooking up.
  • Session - Skateboarding simulation game by crea-ture Studios
Really happy with this one, since well never get a skate 4 apparently, and I'd no idea I would enjoy a skate game that's harder than skate
  • Diabotical by The GD Studio
Has only reaffirmed how bad I am at quake, but we need more arena shooters, and it's a neat lil thing
  • Little Devil Inside
I still see updates pop up for this every now and again, but it's been a while, no idea if I'll ever see it. But it has a neat look, and honestly that's sometimes enough for me.
  • Ultimate Chicken Horse
So worth it, this reminds me I need to load this up with the cousins when we meet up again. Such a fun little game
  • Yooka-Laylee - A 3D Platformer Rare-vival!
£It's rare, I wasn't going to NOT back a BK revival. That said, still haven't played it :P
  • Drift Stage
This is the one I should feel miffed on, had a neat look, fun to play, died too soon. But I got a cool shirt out of it, honestly turns it all around

Let's see, I've backed

Defense grid 2
Cryamore
Yooka laylee
Shantae half genie hero
Bloodstained Ritual of the night.
Wonderful 101.

Cryamore ended up being a project that never happened but that was more fool me for not being more selective when I backed it. The other 5 I got exactly what I wanted our of them, so I'd say very happy with them, and 5/6 investments turning out well seems a good enough record for me.

I think the first gaming one I backed was a proposed Outcast remake, but that didn't reach it's funding goal. Ending up getting Outcast: Second Contact for free in a Humble giveaway.

Put down a lot of money for Shenmue III. Wasn't that big on the game in the end, but hey, I'm immortalised now:

78913463_10101548212307292_8197075479623106560_o.jpg

Backed "Blackroom", proposed new FPS from John Romero, but that didn't meet its funding goal either.

Backed "Praey for the Gods" for 15 bucks, still waiting for release.

Backed "Apocalypse Now", didn't reach funding goal.

Backed "Dreamcast: Collected Works" book. Was delayed by a year but got it in the end and very nicely put together book.

Backed Swery's The Good Life, looking forward to that one, constant updates.

Backed fanmade documentary on Shenmue series, awaiting release, pretty regular updates.

All in all I'm pretty happy with what I've backed, don't feel like I've ever been scammed.

My biggest regret was backing this clusterfuck (not a game):

www.kickstarter.com

Algobrix | The Ultimate Coding Learning Game

The most exciting and comprehensive code learning game for kids 5-13. Learning to program bots and transforming code into play.

Looked interesting back in 2017 as my boy was 5 and looked like the kind of thing he'd enjoy. Nearly 3 years later and we're all still waiting... you can see from the comments it's a shitshow. And the product now looks out of date.

The Banner Saga - no regrets, it started a new franchise.
FTL - no regrets great game
Wasteland 2 - haven't played much lol
Project Eternity - same thing as wl2
Shovel Knight - great game and franchise
Anamanaguchi - the album was great, but the reward I chose didn't work :( I regret it a little
Shadowrun: Hong Kong - great game
Re:Legend - still waiting, they released on ea a long time ago, but because I chose switch I don't have anything for now
Broken Reality - janky game but has lots and lots of charm, I love it
Genesis Noir - waiting
The Good Life - it's coming along, no idea what to expect tbh
BoI: Four Souls - bought it because it was BoI, haven't played it yet :( I regret it a little
Summer in Mara - releasing in a little more than a week!
Deathbulge - coming along
Firmament - progress seems a little slow, but I have faith in the devs
Supraland 2 - the free dlc is already in beta, should be here soonish, the sequel itselfI think will take a little more than what I though at first
Sea of Stars - just finished it's ks, no reason to say anything about it lol

Two Turrican soundtracks. Very happy with those.
Elite Dangerous. Happy that it exists but never ended up spending much time with it.
Aurion, that African action RPG. It's in my backlog.
Additional characters for Skullgirls, which ended up making the game much better for everyone.
Indivisible, also a great game.
Bloodstained, we got two great games out of that one.
Oh, and the book Commodore: The Amiga Years. It was okay.

Currently supporting a remake of a classic boardgame and the new album by Christopher "Baba Yetu" Tin. I think that crowdfunding is still a great way to get slightly less commercial projects by skilled artists off the ground.

Takedown Red Sabre which supposed to be game akin to SWAT4 and original R6, but it's nothing like them.
Star Citizen, because I backed it mostly for campaign.

I've been tempted to, but it seems there's rarely a success story with Kickstarters. Always read about people not getting what they paid for or a title doesn't deliver its promises.

It's actually the opposite case. There is a spreadsheet from a member on the old forum who kept a log of a percentage of successful and failed crowd funded campaigns and the majority of them are successful.

People typically don't make a fuss when a kickstarter goes well. There is a lack of vocal positivity compared when something goes wrong.

Keep in mind this spreadsheet is constantly updated but there is a trend of far more successful campaigns delivering than actually failing.

Here is a sizable list of campaigns that delivered.
Shovel Knight, Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2, Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2, Hollow Knight, Shadowrun Returns, Battle Chasers: Nightwar, The Banner Saga, Hyper Light Drifter, La Mulana 2, FTL: Faster Than Light, Blasphemous, CrossCode, A Hat in Time, Cosmic Star Heroine, Super Hot, Grim Dawn, Darkest Dungeon, Undertale, and many others.

Hell there is a ton of successful projects people don't realize were crowdfunded that fall under the radar in comparison of the really bad and poorly managed funding campaigns.

Until now I've only been burned once. Project Phoenix
All other projects have delivered for the reward tier I went for. That doesn't mean I always liked what was delivered though (ex: MN9) but generally I think the balance is positive.

My worst experiences:

- Dreamfall Chapters: the game was supposed to come in a traditional "PC big box" with printed manual. There was no manual and this was the big box: shown here with actual big boxes:

- I never got my physical copy of Nelly Cootalot - it was lost in the mail and they never sent me a replacement. I ended up buying a copy on eBay.

- Still waiting for two Guys SpaceVenture (estimated delivery was over 7 years ago).

I hope I don't end up regretting the Sharin no Kuni KS, I fear for my Vita copy.

I also have a couple involving some Osamu Tezuka manga, but that's not gaming.
