KH3, just flat out fun game, story isn't particularly good but I don't judge KH stories by the same standard of FFVII. FF VII Remake also has boss battles that are too long and multi stage, some of the levels are just really boring like a couple of labs and revisiting the sewers. The story was ruined.

DQ XI is good but can't remember much about it. FF XV is bad and I barely see anything it that is Final Fantasy,

Haven't played FFVIIR yet, but I can't imagine it will top DQ. I absolutely adored the game and it's in my top 5 of the generation.

I'm a pretty indecisive person.

The most fun to play/replay of all of them for me is KH3.

The most memorable is FF7R.

FFXV and all of its updates was a great ride till the end.

DQXI I haven't finished yet but seems good.

All very fun games as far as I'm concerned.

I only voted KH3 because I happen to be doing data fights right now.

Easily FFVIIR. I was surprised how much I liked given that I don't care much for/haven't played the original. Closely would be KH3 then FFXV.

DQ series is pretty boring so I really don't care for it.

FF7R is the better overall package but KH3 remind data boss fights elevate it to a close second. If the base game was more consistent it would be one.

I replayed about half of FFXV last month and I really shouldn't have. My memories were better than the game itself.

Dragon Quest XI and it isn't close.

DQ11: The refinement and perfection of the classic turn based JRPG. Gorgeous art style, so much charm, and just fun gameplay. 10/10

KH3: Fantastic core combat that is fun as hell. Let down by a poor story and shallow worlds. The DLC bosses were great though! 8/10

FF7R: Really unique and fun combat system. Really bad linear structure, feels more like a Naughty Dog game than an RPG at times, and way too many slow walking, tight passages etc. 7/10

FFXV: A mess of a game. Combat sucks, world sucks, story sucks. 5/10

What? All four of these are multi million sellers and DQ11 is constantly mentioned in "Best RPGs this gen?" topics.
I know right, lol.

I've been really critical of SE during the 2010s but I think they've done really well in the last couple of years, like FFVII was an untouchable game to me but I still admit remake is decent.

SaGa Scarlet Grace
Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers

They probably don't count, but the games in the poll don't come close to my experience with these 2.

I've only played Dragon Quest XI and Final Fantasy XV. Dragon Quest XI is amazing and one of my favorite games of the gen while Final Fantasy XV is outright bad and one of my least-favorite games I've played this gen, so the decision there is easy enough. I don't really have any interest in Kingdom Hearts as a franchise. I'll play Final Fantasy VII Remake eventually when it goes on sale cheap, but my expectations for it are pretty limited.

If I were cheating I'd say FFXII: TZA.

But it's probably FFXV. Far from perfect, but I enjoyed that first half so damn much. Riding Chocobos, sidequesting, and tallying up XP at camp every night (and cooking up a meal for buffs the next day) was such a great loop that I wish that was the main way your party traveled. Screw the Regalia. Plan on going through it again soon since I just got the Royal upgrade pack on sale. Really am curious how different it will be considering I haven't played it since the "vanilla" version.

As for the rest in the poll, I don't care about KH, DQXI was an incredibly mediocre/safe game, and I didn't finish FFVIIR. I enjoyed my time with it (especially the combat) but the acting was atrocious and I ultimately just don't care about the story or characters.

FFVIIR may be GOTG for me. What a way to exceed an already high expectation, holy shit.

FF7 for me.

I also enjoyed FFXV as well but 7 was overall better. I havent played enough of DQ11 to really have an opinion.

FFVIIR and KHIII. FFXV was a massive disapointment, but at least I finished it, can't say the same about DQXI.

DQ XI getting more votes than FF XV and KH3 combined. If only this was reflected in real life and sales in the West. Goddamnit.

While I loved my time with FF XV, FF 7 Remake blew my mind in every way possible. KH3 on the other hand was terribly disappointing.

DQXI is like top 3 this gen for me.

KH3 was cool but very disappointing in places, didn't touch XV, still haven't played FFVIIr besides the demo but I'm sure I'll like it.

Didn't realize until this thread that 3 of my most disappointing games of the generation were SE JRPGs. I enjoyed most of my time with FFXV, DQXI, and KH3, but each of them is the worst entry in their respective series (that I've played.)

1. Final Fantasy VII Remake 9/10
2. Final Fantasy XV 7/10
3. Dragon Quest XI 7/10
4. Kingdom Hearts 3 6.5/10

But NieR: Automata is better than all of them.

Dragon Quest is the only bearable one in this thread.

If smaller budget were in that would be Saga Scarlet Grace.

FFVIIR is my game of the year right now and brought back the fuzzy feelings I last had with FFX. Not as good as that masterpiece, but this game was an absolute joy. It also has one of the best OSTs ever assembled on anything. Fucking incredible and blistered with hype and magic!

FFVII Remake is phenomenal. FFXV is good but not great. Kingdom Hearts doesn't particularly interest me. And I haven't played Dragon Quest XI.

If I absolutely love DQXI, it could take the top spot. But it will have to blow me the heck away.

Oof. That's a disappointing list when it's laid out so plainly. This is probably the worst console generation SE has ever had, even if you count games like Octopath Traveller, I am Setsuna, Final Fantasy XIV: ARR and Bravely Second.

On the topic of FFXIV, Shadowbringers is the best thing SE has done this gen, by far.

For me, it's a tie between DQ XI and FFVIIR, but I'm going with Dragon Quest XI, since that series needs much more exposure in the west.

FFVIIR of course

but I gave KH3 another chance and I'm falling in love

I also think Type-0 is a good game, if you use the bug that alleviates grinding and play in Japanese

Final Fantasy XV is... ok. Whenever I don't think about how disappointing it is.

Dragon Quest XI, I haven't played yet, but I'm sure I'll think the S version is at least good.

Type-0 was not a good game at all.

The art direction and soundtrack were the redeeming factors.

The gameplay got boring midway and the battle system doesn't really develop that much. The story was as messed up as FFXV. Especially at the end of the game with "behind the scenes" stuff happening.

I actually liked FFXV more than DQXI haha. Probably not safe to say that here, but what the heck. Finished the former and but got really bored at the end of act 2 of the latter.

Dragon Quest XI mostly, although FF7R was pretty good too when it wasn't actively sabotaging my ability to play a video game. Which was only two-thirds of the running time.

FFVII Remake is phenomenal. FFXV is good but not great. Kingdom Hearts doesn't particularly interest me. And I haven't played Dragon Quest XI.

If I absolutely love DQXI, it could take the top spot. But it will have to blow me the heck away.

What in the world? Is it one of those "too much like work" kind of things, or just not enough time to get to it yet?

TFW FFXII is a better game than every one of those

Does it really count though? It's a re-release of a re-release. That's legitimately the last Final Fantasy game I loved, and I've even purchased it three times, but I wouldn't count it as a current-gen game at all.

FFXV: A mess of a game. Combat sucks, world sucks, story sucks. 5/10

TLDR; Shit sucks?

Dragon Quest XI is a better all-round game. However, FF7R has higher highs. Sure, they really did some dumb things with the story, and they ruined certain scenes from the original, but the characterizations were on point, and that is more than we could ever hope for when you consider that Nomura was involved. Also, FF7R is the best amalgamation of action and turn-based combat we have ever seen. So yeah, my vote goes to FF7R.

Offf, what a list...

Gonna say FFXIV, and I'm not even the biggest fan of that game either.

Gotta say, what SE needs is an outstanding AAA JRPG New IP. There's an absolute lack of risk and originality in these games.

idk, if we're talking strictly about their internally developed aaa jrpgs. Their 7th gen list is way worse.

Dragon Quest 11 is THE Jrpg of the generation. FF7 remake would be a serious contender if it wasnt shattered into multiple parts.
