Do you have a game in your backlog that you've always wanted to finish, but haven't for one reason or another? Maybe you've started it once or twice and got sidetracked. Maybe it's sitting on your shelf unopened.

Mine is Valkyria Chronicles. I started it on the PS3 back in 2008, but had to sell my console shortly after and, even though a bought another PS3 months later, I never got back to that game. I bought it on PS4 when the remastered version came out because I liked the steel case it came with, but never played it. Then, when it was on sale on Switch for $10, I bought it there figuring it would have a better chance if I had it portable. So, I started it this weekend and I'm about 5 hours in. I'm committed to it now and, after over 12 years, I'm sticking with it until I finish.

Dragon Quest VIII. Had it on PS2, and currently have it on 3DS. Had them for years, finally properly started plating it last year. I got the Baccarat casino to open up and I've been playing slots since.

It had been The Witcher 3 until I used the first part of quarantine to finish it and the DLC's. Now I've just got a normal backlog but top on my list is God of War 2018.

Dragon Age Inquisition. I have to kill a big dragon but it's too hard on Dark Mode so I stopped in 2014 or 2015.

I bought God of War the day it came out and didn't touch another game until it was done. That's rare for me. You should definitely try it!

Phantasy Star Online Episode 3. I'm just so bad at card battling games, I really didn't make it very far but I like a lot of things about it.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - I played a decent bit of it, and actually quite enjoyed the story, the characters, and the presentation. But I just really struggled with the combat, which was both incredibly repetitive and just not fun at all.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided. Loved Human Revolution and bought this one full price on Steam on its release day in summer 2016 because I didn't want to embark in WoW: Legion.

The game ran poorly on my PC unfortunately and I bought Legion since all my friends did. I played Mankind Divided maybe 4 hours in total and reinstalled on a new PC in 2018 and also on the one I just got last December, but never actually clicked on the Play button both times.

Planescape Torment. I put 4 hours into it about a year ago and got distracted by another game. I was only kind of feeling it, but it's so legendarily regarded, I feel like I kind of need to see it through.

I was taking notes and everything.

Persona 4 on PS2, I was pretty close to the end I think, I don't even know if my save file is still alive now, I absolutely loved that game but I got to one of many lows in my life around then and just couldn't get myself to play anything.

Bloodborne too, same story basically, fing loved that game too ;(

Persona 5. It's so long that I burn out before the end. When I pick it back up again, I start from scratch because I forget everything that's going on and I end up burning out again. I'll try Royal out next time maybe it'll be easier for me to get through.

Persona 3 FES on my PS3 (and P4G on Vita)

it's one of those things where I put like 50+ hours into both before getting burned out and wanting to take a break and then the break goes too long and it becomes too difficult to jump in where I left off but I also don't have the motivation to restart. Those games are too damn long.

i just reached the 50 hour mark in P5R and I feel I'm in danger of it happening again...

At the moment? Kingdom Come Deliverance. It's a fantastic game but I got distracted by new releases and never got back to it.

It was Persona 4 for a long time, but I finally finished it last year with the PC version. Now it's become Yakuza 0, which I'm now playing via gamepass. The fear of the game eventually being pulled is keeping me going for now!

It took me years to finish Bloodborne. Started it on launch day and I think I finished it at the end of 2019.

Divinity Original Sin 1, I've restarted it like 3 or 4 times over the years. Last time I made it like 20 hours in before once again dropping it :/

If you're lucky enough to have a PS5 it's a must play experience. I'm not always a fan of 60fps honestly because of the soap opera effect but GoW really shines with it.

I have two.

Final Fantasy XII - I just... don't like it. I don't like its annoyingly long, uninteresting dungeons; I don't like gambits; even the Zodiac Job System gives me terrible FOMO. I haven't liked it for 14 years. But I know I should! I am determined to finish it some day!

Zelda: Breath of the Wild - so I bought this and a Switch on release, but I was in the middle of Horizon Zero Dawn so only played little bits of this. Then Nier Automata came out the following week over here, and that consumed my life... and I have never been back to Zelda. I'll have to start over, probably, if I ever do go back to it.

Out of all the games in my extensive, extensive backlog, these are the two I most regret.

XCOM 2! I absolutely adore the original but I just can't make the time to get into it and I dunno why.

Before that was definitely Dishonored 2, but I finally finished it in the fall. I bought it for full price at launch but dropped it immediately because of the atrocious original PC performance. Tried getting into it at least half a dozen more times but no luck before it finally stuck with me in September.

Persona 4 Golden. Lost my save 3 times due to corrupted memory card, so now I'm waiting for the Switch port to start again on a more reliable console, even if it's now safe on my modded Vita.

Hollow knight. Such a great game but life got in the way and I have been trying to get back into it.
I might have to start all over.

Edit: Bloodborne and Bayonetta 2 are next in my list.

Dead Space 2. Really liked the first one. Just haven't gotten around to the second

KH1+2+3 = I played them to nearly to the end, never to the final boss. I generally really enjoy the Kingdom Hearts series and I guess for some reason I didnt want to experience to end?

Commando: Steel Disaster (NDS) - This was a game I picked up on the cheap years ago. I figure it would be a simple Metal Slug clone, but it's pretty hard. I want to beat it just for bragging rights at this point.

I've got Astral Chain and Ultimate Alliance 3 sitting there, both of which I bounced fairly hard off of but now I think I want to give them a try.

Too many to name TBH. But Shining Force 2 immediately springs to mind.

Final Fantasy VI. I played when I was a kid and I found it really strange. I am sure I will like it if I play it nowdays. I have finished all the games of the series till XII!

Hollow Knight. I think I've put something like 50+ hours into it between the original Steam release and the Switch version, but never got beyond the halfway point of the game. Or, maybe I did, but the game is so massive it's hard to tell what the halfway point is. Once I dropped both versions I completely forgot where to go or what to do.

I actually started my Steam save again last night and yeah, there's A LOT of ground to cover to catch up with my Switch save, but I think I might just stick with it as a way to refamiliarize myself with the game's world. Plus it just looks better on my capable PC. I DO want to finish the game but without the right momentum it's easy to stop and get lost.

Another great example of this is La Mulana. On the Wii I put 70+ hours into it between three playthroughs but hit a brick wall each time. Without taking notes that game is just impossible.

Tales of Vesperia. I've nearly finished it twice, then dropped it for months and restarted since I had no idea what I was doing. I need to just buckle up and get it done, honestly.

Zelda Breath of the Wild..

I got about 25 hrs or so into it back when it first released then something pulled me away... I feel like I would have to restart at this point and honestly I probably should.
