The Ori games for me. They're my go-to if I want to show someone how gorgeous a video game can be.

Hard to find images that do it justice, but from the planets to the races (except humans, unfortunately) to the gear and spacecraft. Just a beautifully crafted Sci-fi setting. Not as pretty as the movie Prometheus, but not as shitty of a plot either.

used to be really into Ueda's style, but so many games have aped it..it's gotten a little stale with it over the years.

Max Payne I & II
Far Cry (nothing special now, but at the time the vibrant tropical setting and the gorgeous graphics were pretty mind blowing)
XIII
Bioshock 1&2
Half Life 2
Splinter Cell: Blacklist (in particular I loved the level title cards and how they displayed on the environment, so simple yet so effective)
Okami
Donkey Kong - Tropical Freeze
Limbo (such an amazing game visually)
BOTW (fantastic stylized visuals considering the hardware)
Hotline Miami (not necessarily the visual style of the game itself, but the whole overall aesthetic)
Most all Remedy games actually

Oh man, I used to see this game at work all the time and wanted to buy it but never could commit to it. It seemed awesome though.

Okami, Hollow Knight, Bloodborne, all three Dark Souls and Shadow of the Colossus are all up there for me as well.
HLD features one of the best and most striking uses of color I've seen in a video game. Just wonderful.

Mirror's Edge has some of the best art design in the business.

And even for as disappointing as Catalyst was, it too has its moments of goodness that shows how great this series can be.

I might be a rare case of someone who only finds Yoshi's Island itself like a solid 8, but still love the visuals of it to 10/10
Kinda feels like the sloppier stylisation of the sequels does the original a dirty by existing and also diluting the unique style.
I'm not sure if it's my absolute fave but for now I'm dropping this in.

I really love the aesthetic of the 3D Mario games on Switch. Mario Odyssey and Luigi's Mansion 3 in particular are gorgeous. Link's Awakening is also really pretty with the way it almost looks like Lego blocks at times somehow.

Other than that, Bloodborne is amazing.

I'm surprised these games haven't been mentioned yet

Super Mario Galaxy is easily the best looking Wii games and, even now, holds up very well, more so than the HD games that came out around the same time. This isn't even to mention the later 3D Mario's, which look even better

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker still looks gorgeous, even now. If it wasn't for BotW or OoT/MM's aesthetics, WW would have my favorite visual style

A lot of the ones I was going to say have been said already, so I'm gonna say Borderlands. It's a very unique art style and it matches the tone of the games perfectly.

Fragile Dreams was one of my fav games on the Wii visually speaking. I was really happy when it made its way out from Japan. The colour choices, character models and enviroment details are still surprising to me nowadays, to be honest. They really made everything feel like a connected world. Back in the day it felt a bit secluded since it was a series of connected areas without a hub world like Silent Hill, but nowadays I would love to see more Japanese games with this level of ambition. It's a shame we lost most AA developers with the jump to HD.

Dishonored series.
The warped, exaggerated body proportions are amazing. Everything feels stylish yet somehow wrong.

Moving through a few different generations:

-Final Fantasy VI (loved the Victorian/Streampunk mixed with the Amano infusion; the latter of which was mostly filled in by my own imagination based on his artwork.)

-Final Fantasy VIII (Yusuke Naora did a brilliant job crafting a world that felt unique, but also familiar. I really adore all the color and different environmental flourishes.)

-Silent Hill 2 (between the lonely emptiness of a normal American resort town and the grimy dread of the stained-sheet otherworld, all the art direction in SH2 was so well conceptualized and felt like every little detail had meaning.)

-Bioshock Infinite (the creativity of floating Americana with zealous trimmings felt at both times deeply unsettling and weirdly relaxing, particularly Battleship Bay.)

Bloodborne (can't say anything about this game that hasn't been said already. Absolutely brilliant- from settings to creatures to NPCs. Might be my favorite overall art direction in any game ever.)

Super-Mario-3D-World_2013_10-15-13_007.jpg

I really love the aesthetic of mario 3d world/ captain toad.
I love Captain Toad for taking the 3D World style and applying it to more densely designed diorama maps, where 3D world falls short for me with its angular floating box lands, Captain Toad takes that and makes it work.
Pains me so much that there's no photo mode

I've only just got around to the new Switch version stuff and its take on the sweet stage with smouldering choco lava is like finally seeing the Super Mario World concept realised fully, now with smoke spewing wafers.
