From what I can remember, just Mass Effect 1 and 2, Super Metroid, and Pokémon Sword (third playthrough). I've been so lousy at actually finishing games that I've decided on a whole system for next year to keep it from happening again.

I always thought of that thread as a way to jot down all of the games you have played regardless of the end result. I keep tabs in that thread with all of the games beaten on the year so I can just straight rip from that thread to put it into a thread like this.

whether or not ppl have completed the 52, that thread still has every game people have completed in 2021, that's the whole point of the thread, to tally / list your completed games in a given year.

yeah this. So, like, it's the same thing. Make all the threads you want dude, but it just seemed redundant given we have a yearly thread for the same thing that people participate in :)

I won't finish the 52 tv seasons challenge for example, but I still have my list of 40 something seasons I watched in the 52 seasons thread for example, so if someone made a "how many tv seasons have you watched this year?" thread, I would also point them to the one that already exists.

As usual I had no set schedule or goal and just played through whatever I felt like. In alphabetical order:

- Bravely Default II (Switch): Great sequel, job system as always was ace, but post-game was a bit lacking sadly
- Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex (GCN): Way more fun than I remembered it, gimmick levels are jank but it's still CB
- Final Fantasy 1 (Steam): Had a nice trip down memory lane with the pixel remaster, game looks the best it ever has
- Final Fantasy 4 (SNES): Namingway translation with rebalanced difficulty, holds up surprisingly well
- Final Fantasy 6 (SNES): Fun game with an amazing second half, looking forward to the pixel remaster next year
- Great Ace Attorney: Adventures (Switch): Played to the end, loved it
- Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve (Switch): Loved it even more. For a while I couldn't play anything to fill the void it left behind
- Mario Kart 64 (Wii VC): Underrated, has the 'classic' Mario Kart feel that future entries never replicated
- Shadow Hearts (PS2): This series is a gem and the blend of horror and rpg gives the game a unique atmosphere
- Yakuza 0 (PS4): Loved the story, not completely sold on the main gameplay but the side stories are my favorite part

I also got SMT V while on sale a couple weeks ago, and am currently making my way through that, but will most likely finish in 2022.

I didn't play too many new games. But if I had to pick a game of the year, it's tough, but it's a tie between Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, and Monster Hunter: Rise. I say MH:Rise because it's only the second MH game I played after Tri, but I got very hyped for it and it lived up to all my expectations, even if it's endgame is a little weak. And I have to give Super Monkey Ball a lot of props too. I was a huge fan of SMB1, SMB2, and SMB:Deluxe, but I can't see myself revisiting those when everything I want is wrapped up in one very nice package (even if some reflection effects are toned down or missing in some spots). They smartly did away with lives, allowing you to retry and practice the toughest stages,.

Metal Gear Acid (Bad, such a slog, cool novelty factor though)
Spyro Reignited Trilogy (Good, big nostalgia, looked great. Very easy)
Yakuza 0 (Great, incredibly slow start, glad I stuck with it though after almost quitting)
Pokemon Alpha Sapphire (Bad, not even nostalgia could save this. So easy, game basically played itself)
Ori and the Blind Forest (Great, wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did)
Tetris Effect Connected (Great, "beat" the campaign but still play it from time to time)
Quake (Amazing, can't believe how much I liked it)
Bioshock (Good, replay, didn't like it as much as I remember)
Bioshock 2 (Great, much more fun than the first)
Ocarina of Time 3D (Terrible, first time playing OOT. Such a miserable, tedious experience. Couldn't wait for it to be over)
Kid A Mnesia Exhibition (Great, not really a game but blew me away)
Bioshock Infinite (Not good at all, a very boring on rails shooter with a story so far up it's own ass I couldn't believe it was actually made. I can see why people liked it back in the day though)

Also played some online games you can't beat:

TF2 (Still play this from time to time, pretty much completely quit it due to the bots)
Fall Guys (Still play this occasionally, love it, great new content)
Apex Legends (Played for the first time, sunk 70 hours into it. Really loved it at the start, absolutely hate it now. I think I hit a skill ceiling and was tired was spending 15 minutes running around a map collecting items only to be shot in the back and killed in 4 seconds)
Halo Infinite (Loving this, first Halo I ever played. I don't care about cosmetics/BP/progression so the complaints there, while valid, don't matter to me. Some very odd choices though, hope they improve)

Not much at all. I completed the story in Hades (a game I'll be playing for years to come), and Halo Infinite (also a game with insane replay value).

Oh also I beat Final Fantasy VII Remake: INTERmission which was even more glorious than I imagined. The combat improvements have me extra hyped for FF7R Pt. 2. And the music is crazy ridiculous. Those Happy Turtle songs... Incredible additions to the best soundtrack of the generation.

I'm hoping to enjoy a bunch of good PS5 exclusives next year.

This year I only played PC games, weird how much it changed.
Counting it all, I got to 24 games that I finished, which is kinda much I think.
The most interesting ones was replaying some Zelda Classic games - these are still really addicting, but there are some real bad design decisions that I didn't notice back then.

Here are the games I beat this year. Konami published about a third of these, and that's what I'll remember 2021 for. I'd say the best game I finished this year was Dark Souls on the PS3, followed by Resident Evil (Remake) on PS4.
