Not that itll ever happen because these games cost way too much, take way too much time and they still need to make new games as well, but what other Final Fantasy game would you all like to see made in the same vein as FFVII?

This was tough for me between IX and X but I think X would be the best choice. There are so many characters that we could learn more about. The crusaders, maybe Wakka's brother, Lord Braska, Auron, and Jechts travels. The temples redone could be absolutely incredible.

I also cant help but imagine the scale that they could bring Sin to.

Oh and blitzball would be glorious.

FFX or FFIX but god damn dont remove the turn based combat. Im cool with either.

Edit: a remake of FFVI would be very interesting though.

Final Fantasy VIII. The core had a lot of potential, but there were some issues with things like using magic having a negative affect on your stats. I feel like it has the most potential if it was remade. Also, I have a feeling gunblade gameplay in the FFVIIR engine would be pretty rad.

Honestly with Square all in on FF7 (rightfully so) and FF16 in the future I would be shocked to get any sort of remake like FF7 in the next decade. I think 4, 6, or 8 would benefit the most from a remake. Anything after 9 is too fresh graphically and I can't see it happening.

VIII would probably make the most sense ... VI and IX are way too big in scope to project in the same way as VII. Maybe X would make sense too, because it's already set up in a very linear fashion, and there's no expectation of world traversal.

I think remakes should be for any game that still has something left to say.

I think FFX and IX both were "complete" and built the story and mechanics to their fullest. FF7 always felt like it didnt have the tech to be fully realised.

All that said I think FF8 has the most "unfinished business" of all Final Fantasy

It's VI. I don't really think anything after VII needs a remake because they've honestly not aged badly. But VI was so ambitious for its time; I'd love to see it remade in full HD.

That said, I'd prefer if Square Enix makes a new Final Fantasy instead of indulging the in the nostalgia of the past. We need FFXVI.

Honestly VIII sounds like it'd be even harder to remake than IX. And given it likely won't be a 1:1 remake anyway, I'd go for 4 personally.

none? make new things. seriously look forward not backwards. the entire media industry and its consumers have for the last half decade or so been stuck in a nostalgia loop, completely unable of looking forward and discovering new things. it's a postmodern nightmare. I would be excited if square rounded up the best talent they have access to and made a chrono trigger equivalent for the 20's.

FFVII is the only game in the series with the kind of legacy that would allow for something this self indulgent.

But I wouldn't be opposed to a 3D remake of FFVI that had Bravely Default chibi models.

No. Not chibi or Octopath Traveler or that nonsense.

VII Remake-tier or bust.

Unless they go full-on adapting Amano's iconic artstyle I wouldn't want a realistic look at such a fantastical game as FFVI.

They did that with the PS1 version and it looked like a bunch of cosplayers.

A reimagining akin to FFVII-R? The correct answer is FFIV. Just imagine this, but as the in-game graphics:

I'd rather FFV and FFVI be remade more stylistically, retaining their turn-based combat, and preferably not taking a decade or more to create.

The other entries really don't need remaking.

While a remake of FF9 with the attention to details of FF7 Remake would be the greatest thing ever in the series, if they tried to pull the time travel or alternate universe card with that one, i probably would never trust Final Fantasy games ever again.

I keep hearing good things about Final Fantasy XI, so I wouldn't mind a remake like this in the future.

Is that the one where you suplex a train?

Yoshitaka Amano is a brilliant artist.

But, no, I wouldn't be interested if they adapted is development art to the aesthetics of a VI remake.

I feel like of the more "modern" games from 6 onward, 8 is the one that would benefit most from a remake updating and fixing the mechanics like the junction and draw system + level scaling.

6 seems to have a really enduring popularity, but it's a weird spot right now: it would be a huge undertaking with a ton of changes to make that game full 3D, but I can't see them doing a 2D or FF4 DS style remake at this point because the popularity/presence of those kinds of games has died down on dedicated gaming systems; it would only really fit on mobile or maybe Switch, in my mind.

Final Fantasy VI or Final Fantasy VIII.
I dont think VI is ever going to happen because Square Enix treats pre Play Station Final Fantasy like old school games, Nomura was barely involved, they have said they didn't even planned those characters to appear in Kingdom Hearts but some members pushed for Vivi while Nomura didn't wanted anything he was not involved with.

They were doing something with the DS remakes but stopped at IV,at most i see an octopath inspired FFVI remaster, but no modern cutscene direction or voice acting its simply not their style anymore.

None of them. No more multi game remakes. Either remake the entire game at once or don't bother.

Yeah I doubt it as well, just thought I'd throw it out there. Also an Octopath style remake would make a lot of sense for it if Square were to decide to do anything with FFVI. That would absolutely be the most they do with FFVI.

A FFVIII Remake would be the one with the most potential to solve the story/gameplay problems of the original.

FFVI, but I'm not convinced Square's leading personnel fully grasp how much love there is for that game in the West. It's never really struck me as being strongly celebrated by Japanese fans. If there's data to suggest otherwise, by all means, prove me wrong! But from my perspective, the lion's share of Japanese adoration seems to be toward IV/VII/X in particular.

FF9 is my favorite FF but the clear, obvious answer to this question is FF6.

It would be unfathomably good if executed well.

All hands should be on deck for finishing VII. Final Fantasy VII is my favorite game of all time and somehow, someway against all odds the company who hasn't put out a Final Fantasy that equaled it in over 20 years just released it's equal last week. The only thing is it needs to be completed to truly join OG FF7's greatness, but if they stay on this path of quality then they are certainly on track to do so.

I don't even care about FF16, I want Remake 2.

I just want them to revisit 4, 5 and 6 (plus Chrono Trigger) in the Octopath art style with voice acting and maybe cutscenes.

They could probably do all of the above for the cost of one entry in the FF7 remake series.

"nonsense" Please. Octopath Traveler's artstyle is amazing, and the first non-handheld Bravely game looks fine. Not every old school game needs the AAA full throttle FF7R treatment. If people want the latter they should be expecting the full package then, including 10-15 years of waiting for the remake to be released in three parts. I'd rather just wait for a normal single-game remake released in a normal time frame.

The first Final Fantasy.

If they're going to do that, they're better off just making a modern game with a hint of the ideas of FF1 cause that game is very dated and basic, and a full scale remake would make it plainly obvious. Might as well remake FF3, a game improving massively on FF1's design with actual characters and a story. And while they're at it, might as well remake the superior version of this kind of final fantasy, FF5.
