I worked food in the Air Force and had access to a deep fryer and hot dogs. They actually weren't that bad. Made it even worse for your health then it was, but it tasted good.

We had some really good ones when I was in South Dakota. Just left them on the roller for a bit longer and they were freaking perfect.

It depends. An all beef, natural casing dog is generally really good no matter how it's dressed. A cheapo pork/chicken dog has a weird mushy texture that is bleh.
