I live in Las Vegas, a purplish-blue city. And I'm a fast food junkie; I eat lunch nearly every day in one of several fast food restaurants near my work. About half of them have a TV on, and every single one of those TVs is tuned to Fox News. It's also on in bars, in retail stores, in the airport, in government buildings, in police stations, even in some gas stations. It's on in the employee dining room, in several casinos I've worked in. It's everywhere.
Why? In a city/county that went for Hillary by 10.5 points in 2016, and voted for our House representative by 14 points in 2018, why the hell is Fox News on anywhere? Much less being nearly the only channel on, anywhere there's a TV in public (aside from sports bars).
And, in my experience, it's not just Las Vegas. In my travels, this seems to be the case everywhere: Fox News is nearly ubiquitous on public televisions, except for those airing sports. I especially notice it in fast food places, because, as I said, I frequent them.
Please chime in whether that's the case where you live, especially if you live in blue areas, as I do.
But more importantly, what can we do about it? Can we get a movement going to boycott businesses that air this reprehensible channel? Can we just walk up and change the channel? Maybe all at once? Surely that would be possible, in this age of social media (which I'm not on). Reducing the reach of Fox News would be one of the most beneficial things possible for our nation.
Your thoughts, Era?
