Since we are just a short two and a half months away from The Rise of Skywalker and a few weeks away from the premiere of The Mandalorian, I wanted to get a gauge of how Era feels about Star Wars and see what everyone's top three movies are.

Now...since Era limits me to only being able to put seven choices I had to put in the ones that were more likely to get voted for. So if The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, or Solo are in your top three SW movies go ahead and tell us all about your love of those movies!

So Era...what are your top three Star Wars movies and why?

I couldn't vote properly because you didn't put Solo on there (although I'm assuming you ran out of room).

Empire and ANH will receive the lion's share of votes, as they should.

After that I'd actually pick Rogue One. By far the best of the new movies. It gets better with time, unlike the others.

Solo is pretty good. Deserves a spot on the list above some of the others.

Yeah, I couldn't post more than seven poll answers so I had to cut out the least likely ones. Otherwise I would've just put every movie there.

Little depressed The Force Awakens isn't polling as high as I would've thought. I personally really love that movie and while, yes, it has familiar beats, I think it's a much better movie than people give it credit for. Especially, considering most of the new characters people like stem from that movie and what it did and the foundation it built. I still find that movie the easiest to rewatch.

This is actually why I wanted to let people have three votes to play around with. Because it would actually make the results more interesting than seeing just ESB get all the votes. So I hope that will be accomplished as we get more votes. :)

TLJ, ESB, ANH. Best three of the bunch. Special mention for RotS cause it saved the prequels from being terrible.

ESB > ANH > TLJ

Still have to watch Solo. Somehow missed it at the cinema and never found the time to watch it at home.

I thought it good the first time I watched it but geenrally didn't agree with how amazing everyone thught it was

Then I went back and watched again recently and oh man it is soooo fucking good. Not sure what it was, maybe I was just in a mood the first time. But yeah, doesn't crack the top three for me. That goes to Empire (#1 of course), TLJ and then Solo.

Its a good movie no doubt. TLJ, ESB and ANH(on some days) are just better 🤷‍♂️

I really think that if TFA had any, any other climax other than "Death Star 3.0", it would be much more well-regarded. It's a great movie and continues to be fun on every rewatch.

Empire, Last Jedi, Sith.

Because: Classic movie; return of the force to being a mystic force rather than a superpower, along with interesting plots; and General Grievous.

Poll results look about right, with about the expected proportion and demographic of people voting for each respective film. In a poll like this, you can see how The Force Awakens would suffer, despite being a good film. There are simply other films which do what it does better and I'm not sure it's too many people's favourite.

My only major complaints with TFA are the rightfully maligned Starkiller base finale and the slightly breathless pace once they encounter Han Solo - the film could've had a few more scenes of talking and downtime.

TFA is like the inverse of Rogue One; it starts incredibly strongly and gets worse as it approaches its third act.

the edge
If im honest with myself, I only really like ESB and TFA. I guess I like the Star Wars universe, the idea and mythology behind it all, more than I like the movies.

ANH gets props for establishing the universe and mythology in two hours, which is more than you can say for most action movies these days. But the plot is so basic, it's hard to find any appeal in it.

RotJ could be fun without all the Ewok stuff, which I already hated as a kid. Vader's redemption at the end is unearned, too. He did way too much evil shit to pop up as a force ghost at the end.

TLJ left me with really mixed feelings. All the casino stuff felt really prequel era and too long but I really enjoyed the main plot. When Kylo said "let the past die" I was so excited and thinking "Yes! Fuck the Jedi und fuck the Sith! Burn it all down and kill every remnant of that era!" but the way the story went after that point it feels like it's going nowhere. I'm going to watch Rise to the Skywalker but I'm not expecting anything more than a shallow rebranding of the Jedi teachings.

I really hope we're able to move past the Skywalker era and explore new time periods in the upcoming movies. I'm so sick of it.

Rogue One & Empire are pretty good from what I can remember, but they aren't movies I rewatch

I liked TFA in the theatre, but that was because it seemed like they cared about the black lead for a quick second there. In retrospect it's a bit too samey (which is a problem all these movies share at this point)

I grew up on the original three, but I would probably bump six off the list and put Rogue One on there with four and five.

Rogue One was an extremely good Star Wars movie.

I do like the Force Awakens though. I didn't put the new ones on my list, but I don't think they're bad.

Without hesitation, Empire Strikes Back and The Last Jedi are my top two.

Rounding out three is a little harder. I ended up voting for A New Hope since I grew up with that movie and it's a cornerstone of my life, but a part of me considers that, with nostalgia removed and graded in a vacuum, The Force Awakens might actually be the better movie.

So:

1. TESB
2. TLJ
3. ANH

Lol @ ROTS being the only prequel in the poll when it's not even the best of the prequel trilogy.

1) Empire Strikes Back
2) Star Wars (A New Hope)
3) Return of the Jedi

4) The Last Jedi

The rest is bad

1) ESB
- best SW film. perfect from beginning to end. I always especially love that Yoda warned him off going to Bespin, and Luke achieved nothing there. But at the same time you could argue that knowing he was Vader's son at that time was better then finding out on the DS2.
2) ANH
- Love all the parts of this, from Tantooine to the Death Star to Yavin to the trench run, just a really fun adventure move. Sir Alex McGuinness & Peter Cushing are especially good.
3) ROTJ
- mostly great. Throne room scene is an all time movie fave of mine (YOUR FAITH IN YOUR FRIENDS IS YOURS). Jabba rescue is great. Ewoks are weak as hell, and the main detriment of this film. I really wish they'd have gone with Wookies.

OG trilogy would be my pick with ease.

For the other ones:

ROTS - Haven't seen it since the cinema, don't remember much about it to be honest. My feeling at the time was that it was the best of the prequels by a wide margin, but light years away from any of the OT.

TFA - Pretty fun film with very likeable leads in Rey and Finn. But the main beat of the story is ANH's, and ANH did that better. The film starts the resistance off from pretty much zero again which is silly.

RO - The group of heroes have zero personality. JEJ sadly can no longer do the Vader voice that well, and his talking scene was poorly written too. Tarkin CG could do with some work, Leia CG could do with a LOT of work. There's some cool stuff at the end with Vader fighting. I approve of killing off all the heroes too. But I would have liked to have been sad they died - since the film did an awful job of filling them in as people I felt nothing.

TLJ - This film has many issues. It has weird humour in it that is almost certainly going to age very badly - that phone call between Poe and the general made me cringe for example. The main plot was so-so, and the whole casino planet escapade was awful. The usage of Luke from a wider series perspective was pretty bad. Luke, just like Ben Kenobi, makes mistakes as a teacher and the galaxy is paying for it. Then he runs away from it, gets coaxed back finally, helps a bit and dies. Huzzah. Poe is an embarrassment the entire movie. I haven't rewatched it since the cinema so I may have forgotten, but didn't his actions cause a ton of deaths and never really get addressed? The whole Holdo/Poe plotline is so pathetically childish on both ends I don't know where to begin there. I'd say the First Order is winning because the Rebellion is headed up by children, but then I've seen Kylo and Hux. Snoke is some creepy (and not in an intimidating way) dude in a golden smoking jacket. That was a thing. Plot points from TFA get tied off in what feel like unnatural ways

Empire Strikes Back
The Last Jedi
Return of the Jedi

In that order. Empire has some great highs and is the most consistently good SW film. TLJ and ROTJ have the highest highs in the entire series.

Voted for the original trilogy. All the other choices are good but also highly flawed in various ways.

Oh go on then, I'll do another bloody ranking.

1) ESB = ANH: The perfect sequel is equal to the purest, most self-contained Star Wars film
2) RotJ = TLJ: Two films which offer the highest highs of the saga...and some lows too
3) RO: An underrated prequel done right which makes Darth Vader and the Death Star terrifying again.
4) TFA: A very well made reminder of why we love Star Wars, but is low on novelty
5) Solo: Solid Star Wars filmmaking that does little to inspire
6) TPM: The best of the mediocre Lucas prequels on the whole; inconsequential, but has the best production design, dialogue and sense of place
7) RotS: Palpatine's scenes are more compelling than anything in TPM, but the film unforgivably squanders a home run of a plot.
8) AotC: Rightfully maligned - aggressively digital and one of the hokiest romances in cinema.

4/5/8 of those choices

I would say my Clone Wars is my favorite, if you combine all the seasons
