Whether it would be a book, comic, TV show, movie, game, or whatever, what romances are your favorite and why? I'm a sucker for a good romance and just want to see what other people consider their favorite.

Comics
TV
  • Eureka - Carter and Alison.
  • Superman and Lois. Feels very real.
  • Doctor Who. Amelia and Rory. Horribly flawed, but they fought for it.

Carol. Portrait of a Lady on Fire. The Shape of Water. The first is the closest film has ever come to capturing the process of falling in love. The second is one of the best examples of the gaze in romance, of what it's like to see your beloved and to be seen back. The last is just a wonderful fairy tale that makes you believe in the magical feeling that love can offer you, despite how fictional it may seem.

Orpheus and Eurydice is still my favorite love story, but I don't always read it romantically.

Also, I'm a sucker for reading historical love letters. The letters between Scott and Vita Fitzgerald and between Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West are my two favorites.

Not sure what my favorite is but I remember loving any teenage romance from a movie or tv show as a teenager and now somehow it doesn't work for me as I have gotten older.

I remember seeing Stardust maybe 5 years ago and that is a great love story (along with adventure movie/comedy).

Jake and Amy from B99

This is probably my pick too. It's hard to think of great romances though in series/genres where romance isn't a focus.

That said, I have a soft spot also for Gohan/Videl in Dragon Ball (at least in the classic series, not as much in Super). Toriyama is on the record that he hates writing romance and thinks he isn't very good at it so he does it mostly offscreen, but Gohan and Videl have a cute dynamic and it's totally believable these people would fall in love and get married. At least in terms of nerdy genre action/adventure fiction that one is up there for me.

Max and Milia. I wanted to be a hotshot giant robot pilot and hookup with a hot space alien just like him.

As an adult-

Joel and Clementine in Eternal Sunshine. If ever there was an imaginary couple I was rooting for to make things work, it was these two.
A movie I've watched way more times than I care to admit.

Before Sunrise encapsulates the feeling of falling in love with someone and wanting to spend every moment with that person.

Given's still my top pick.

Also I found Dale and Allison to be incredibly sweet, in Tucker and Dale vs Evil.

Hannah and Curtis from Todd and the Book of Pure Evil. There's one scene in particular that always sticks in my mind. Curtis has a prosthetic arm. In one episode, a character throws a poisoned dart at Hannah. Curtis IMMEDIATELY puts his arm out in front of her. His REAL arm, not the prosthetic. As the poison hits him, he blinks, smiles at her with tears in his eyes, and says, "I meant to use this one," lifting his prosthetic just before he falls unconscious.

Annette Benning and Kevin Costner in Open Range (up on Hulu).

They have that kind of onscreen chemistry that makes you wonder how they're not actually married irl.

Crazy to think that she wasn't intended to be the love interest. (Why have we never had a Spider-Man movie with this scene?)

Despite my problems with the overall series, I'll always come back to Jesse Custer and Tulip...

And how about the love between a super-intelligent Gorilla and a disembodied brain?

Mia and Sebastian from La La Land, from the moment they met, the falling in love (the planetarium scene is one of the most beautiful pieces of art I've ever experienced), the struggles like the two big fights/discussions they had that felt just so real and close to home. And of course that ending.

Angel and Cordelia, they were acquaintances at best on Buffy, become co-workers on Angel and then friends before the relationship becomes romantic. Their romance was a very slow burn and grew out of friendship and trust, it's so much better than Buffy/Angel which was build on some weird mix of obsession and fascination. Because Whedon is a pig the Angel/Cordy relationship never reached its full potential but it was still one of the best things about the show.

I liked it, but I also found it unbearably drawn out. Just season after season of them never getting a break, haha.
Brain damage, teleporting to another planet, brainwashed in the Matrix, etc.

I kept saying the biggest villains in AoS were those damn writers lmao

Hands down the best romance I have ever seen played out on TV. Love them so much.

What I like the most about them is how they're both equally crazy af when it comes down to it lol

Still have a soft spot for Chris Pine.

And this one is my guilty pleasure:

Godai and Kyoko from Maison Ikkoku. The last few episodes/last few chapters from the manga are some of the best romance in anime/manga.

Jesse and Celine are the perfect example, it doesn't get better. Some other great shouts so far (Carol, Portrait, La La). I also adore the relationship in Certified Copy, though it may not exactly fit with the criteria.
