What comes to mind are games like Racing Lagoon (driving & RPG) and Natural Selection (FPS & RTS), both of which are pretty unique I think. What are some other games that combine normally unconnected genres?

Sigma Star Saga was an interesting blend of these genres too.

Because the list of genres for Space Rangers 2 on Wikipedia includes "Text adventure, real-time strategy, space trading and combat simulator, turn-based strategy, shoot 'em up, role-playing game, third-person shooter", and that's not including things like "puzzle", "management game", "racing", "adventure/quest", etc, to include all the weird shit the government mission text-quests have you doing.
It's quite a mishmash, and quite excellent.

Natural selection is one of the best games ever.

Was hoping more for games that consistently blend genres rather than games x features a shmup level or something. Really I just wanted to talk about Natural Selection.
Hell yeah.
Pandora's Tower.
It has the exploration adventure feel and crafting system from the One Piece Unlimited games.
The dungeons puzzles and battles seem a lot more dependant of the enviroment due to the chain combat/mechanics, so it's a bit like Darksiders in that sense.
But then the whole plot revolves around these 13 beasts you need to defeat, each with it's own battle gimmick that you need to figure out, and as you defeat them you get glimpes of the backstory as you also get the feeling that thing's aren't going that well for you two, so it kinda reminds me of SotC.
On top of all that, the game is a dating sim. You need to watch out the timer and return home as soon as possible with monster meat so that your fiance doesn't get stressed because of the curse. Since you need to talk to her and bring her gifts so that she can get distracted and craft/translate stuff to help you in your adventure, the hub gives a much slower and calm pace, which then reinforces the feeling of danger when you go out.
