I adore Revenge of the Sith, both ironically and unironically. It's supremely entertaining, and it's the Star Wars film that feels the most like a grand Shakespearean play.

Also the film is a meme generator, every other line of dialogue just cracks me up. Ian Mcdiarmid hams it up to awesome levels.

I can definitely get on board with this but I really didn't care for it at all when I first saw it. It's grown on me....

TPM was good. AOTC and ROTS have good and bad parts so they both average out to mediocre.

They are all terrible.

I will admit I enjoy them for the memes.

But they're barely coherent and make no sense. Watch them again as an adult, they don't hold up whatsoever from what you remember.

I watched them again a few years back and still found myself enjoying 1 and 3. The first 20 minutes of Episode II was some of the worst shit I've ever had to sit through. I will never do it again.

Better than the new ones because they have some originality which makes them actually interesting. For all their flaws there is still nothing else like them out there. I don't think they are good movies but I'd rather watch them than the sequels.

No. Let's just have a poll with all the movies and Kotor 1 and 2 thrown in and be done with it, shall we?

I probably would hate them if I saw them now. They were pretty entertaining when I was a kid.

At least they are better than TLJ.

Fairly terrible overall, but quite entertaining at times. I wouldn't say they're significantly worse than the original trilogy, though.

Technically, no, but they aren't the worst either. Only Episode 3 comes close to being good.

bad movies that managed to spawn a lot of amazing side content/characters. Clone Wars, a bunch of video games (republic commando needed a sequel) , a couple of books.

I'm a little confused by this as I find very little about the prequels to be "original". All they do is remix original trilogy ideas. I mean there's literally a scene where a clone pilot says "lock s-foils in attack position". Could you elaborate?

My fondness for ROTS aside, I rewatched Phantom Menace a few weeks back and it was astonishingly dull.

They had their moments - few and far between - but no. They're widely derided for good reason. The direction was just miserable 90% of the time. The writing worse. The scope of ideas tiny compared to the OT.

When you make Natalie Portman, one of the greatest actors of a generation, be wooden and curt across three movies you know you fucked up.

As a kid, I enjoyed them though I obviously preferred the original films.

Years later, I was pretty much thoroughly onboard the consensus of them just being bad films.

In the last several years, in particular with how Disney Star Wars has gone + the cultural & political movements in the United States, I've come to radically re-evaluate the Prequel films.

I pretty much see them as made to be deliberately schlock-y and antagonistic to the "hardcore Star Wars fan". Anakin Skywalker is a metaphor for the American men who idolize/glorify the imagery/symbology of Darth Vader and the Empire.

It is a social commentary on the state of mass American culture, and also how Star Wars fits and shaped said mass American culture/media and what those things mean.

The young fan in me who watched these films as a kid says YES. The film critic/graduate in me says HELL NO.

Honestly, I'm currently right in the middle. I think they are fine and well produced films (not written or directed). Revenge is actually good a few bad bad moments here and there. Phantom is okay with a lot of bad moments but some small great ones like the Pod Race and Maul scenes. Attack of the Clones is the only I would consider mediocre but not completely bad since the Obi Wan side plot was the best part of the film, though a bit mediocre as well. There is one huge positive I'll give the prequels, they did well with expanding the lore and world building, sure it was mainly done for marketing but damn it we got 2 excellent Clone Wars shows because of them, so they are alright in my book.

This about sums up my thoughts. Well said.

Goodness no.

Original Trilogy > Sequel [Soon To Be] Trilogy > Prequel Trilogy.

That said, the prequels have some extraordinary worldbuilding. Best in the franchise. I'll give them that.

They're not good movies but I still love them. Funny thing is, most kids I know enjoy them over the others. But then again kids enjoy most movies and don't tend to see flaws as much.

i didn't get bored in the middle and turn them off
i found them interesting enough to watch more than once

i don't know if that makes them good, but i don't think i can realistically call them bad

I don't know about being good but I find 1 and 3 a ton more enjoyable than the sequels.

I and III are decent movies but they have too many flaws (acting and writing) that doom them from being good. Mediocre. I still enjoy watching them though. The less said about II the better.

I really do love that Anakin is a whiny cringey piece of shit in the movies. Vader shouldn't be seen as cool and someone to emulate, he's a fucking monster responsible for the deaths of billions, his true self being Anakin is great.

The CW cartoon shows a more ideal heroic Anakin and thus a more tragic character. It's great in it's own right, I wish the show could've combined the two.

Loved them. The political plot is way more interesting than whatever "mickey mouse adventure" the new Star Wars have become with Disney.

These were not good movies.

Badly directed, badly written...it takes a LOT of work to make Samuel L. Jackson boring as hell but Lucas managed it. The prequels were special effects showcase movies- and the CGI in them hasn't aged too well by current standards.

I can't think of a reason I would actually tell someone to watch one that didn't involve drinking games
