I don't own any of the current gen, so I still have lots to play. No need to get a new system

I mean, worldwide pandemic lol. People are getting evicted, whole industries destroyed, historical GDP drops in US and Germany.

This forum really underestimate the second order affects of this virus.
Meanwhile, Apple just had a record breaking quarter while everyone was in quarantine and all of their retail stores were closed.

As a mainly PC gamer who is used to an SSD and high frame rates, I'm hyped for consoles being caught up again. The PS5 games shown look great too. So call me hyped.

I feel pretty excited when compared to 2013 if not especially hyped. Sony are consistently doing a great job and there looks to be more stuff coming for PS5 in 2020 & 2021 than there was for the PS4 in 2013 & 2014. Microsoft at this point last generation were shitting the bed incredibly hard, whereas now they look like a serious contender pulling out the stops to try and make a mark.

Hype is pretty low and that's because we don't know much about them, no released date, no price, no launch line up fixed, publishers and constructors not playing the game because no E3 and no must buy day one games, no huge tech demos as well, at least on PS4/Xbox one, we had Rise and killzone, I'll wait for them to go cheaper, worst start gen ever to me.

At this point its diminishing returns and my excitement is based on games I want to play, so what system they are on is irrelevant.

If I wanted to be blown away by cutting edge power and tech I'd get a PC.

same

the 2020 of it all in combination with the fact that every single showcase so far has been totally underwhelming in combination with the remaining uncertainties means i'm actually less hyped right now than i was after that first Wired piece

never thought a Mark Cerny Wired interview in April 2019 would represent the peak of my hype for next gen consoles, but here we are

I'm hyped that the PS5's first year is looking wild, but other than that I need to see more.

The UI and gameplay.

Totally this. There's new toys coming out and they look impressive. They can do all kinds of neat things and in normal times, it would be time for a refresh.

But this is not normal times. There's a pandemic on, people are dying, losing their jobs, or suffering one of the many knock-on effects of the coronavirus. In times like this, new consoles just don't seem as important, you know? They'll still be there when the virus clears out, whenever that will be, and there'll probably be several interesting games out for them by then, too.

But right now, survival beats amusement. There's a virus out there that can kill you or someone you care about. It's completely fair to be more worried about that than hyped for new consoles.

Meh.

Both day one launches look so boring and dreadful, never cared about Halo Infinite and Spider-Man was booring.

Fable, Avowed and God of War II are still years away.

I have more hype for Cyberpunk 2077 and Nvidia Ampere GPUs

I've bought and owned most every console since the Sega Genesis. This will be the first time buying one for launch day. So there's that.

I'm excited definitely, but it's been the oddest build up to new consoles ever for obvious world reasons.

I'm with you. I see absolutely no reason to be excited for next-gen. No games announced that I care about, and the new hardware is boring and unexciting.

There's no reason to get excited for or pay $500+ for hardware that's only going to play a bunch of sequels to shit I don't care about. I've never been more bored of gaming in my life.

Horizon Forbidden West is SO hype. I will need a PS5 the moment that game releases. I really hope it makes store shelves by holiday 2021.

I´m personally less hyped about next-gen than in previous transitions, at least until next year.

-My Xbox One X feels like it still has a lot left in the tank.
-Both console and PC hardware are becoming increasingly prohibitive here in Argentina. We are talking about twice the average monthly income for a high-end console, and double/triple of that for a strong gaming PC. Most of my gaming friends (mainly on Xbox) won´t upgrade until 2021 at least, and I have no hurry since my backlog is increasingly giant thanks in part to Game Pass.
-After some 15 years on consoles, I am currently evaluating the remote possibility of migrating back to PC (the cost of a Series X + a work laptop would be around the same than a full-blown gaming rig).

This could probably change if the rumored Lockhart arrives to my country with a reasonable price.

I don't like Xbox's offerings anymore, so that's an instant write-off for me. I'm not impressed with the current information about PS5. I doubt they're going to commit to full BC for PS1, PS2, and PS3 games. In the past, there would be a major exclusive third party game announcement, but outside of rumors of Silent Hill and Metal Gear on PS5, I'm inclined to think that isn't happening. I'd like to see Square Enix announce FFXVI this month. That would get me hyped.

No hype at all and the communication has been terrible this year.

We're in August and we still don't know the line up, release dates and prices on/of both consoles. No big event like E3 so no impressions on upcoming games as well. It sucks.

I feel a lot less excited since I mostly play games on my laptop now. I still kind of want a PS5 for the exclusives, but otherwise, I'm good with just my laptop and Switch.

I barely care about any of the big games these days, so it'll probably be a few years before PS5/XSX has anything I'd feel I need a new console for. I don't even have a 4K TV lol.

With all that's going on in the world I don't think I can be "hyped" for anything. To much serious shit in the front of my mind to let my hobbies take center stage.

It's virtually nonexistent for me; I don't intend to purchase next-gen hardware until games I'm interested in have release windows. I'm talking Dragon Age 4, Starfield, that sort of fare, so I won't be surprised at all if 2021 comes and goes and I'm still kicking it old-school.

That said, I know plenty of people who are hyped. This isn't some universal sense of apathy.

No hype, but FOMO if I don't get one at launch due to recession/societal collapse making tech supply/demand immense next year, so I'll attempt to snag a pre-order.

No hype either but I'm ready for an upgrade. Need a faster OS for sure.

To be fair though I'm like this with games too. I don't get hyped up anymore until the game is installed and ready to play, probably something to do with getting old lol
I need an updated ps. I have my base one from I think 6 years ago and it's chugging. Ghost load times were fast but not like other people were experiencing. Started playing horizon again and when I fast travel I'm putting the controller down cause it takes about a minute for it to load a new section

Stoked to play miles morales but besides that... Not really sure. Gaming has been my main distraction during covid besides reading so with winter coming I'll save up and get one at launch.

Really no hype for me at all for both consoles... especially when it comes to games.

I'm more excited for the next GPU series (RTX 3000).

We haven't really seen much in the way of killer next gen games. Games are kind of the whole point and so far they're MIA

That said, we're very overdue for a hardware refresh, so I'm excited for games to be able to move forward

I'm pretty hyped. Destiny at 4K/60fps is all I want this fall. Halo Infinite is the cherry on top. That said, it is understandable that folks aren't as hyped as other console launches. There is a pandemic killing hundreds of thousands of people and the possibility of economic hardship is around the corner.

I can't afford it so I don't give a shit.

Honestly, being excited to buy a $500-$600 machine is a huge privilege at this point in time. Im guessing most buyers will go up to $800 to $1000 after all the games and peripherals. I hope people can appreciate that.

Zero hype.

No new IPs or games that are must haves. It could just be that I'm getting older and nothing excites me anymore. I also just built a new PC so I can play any of the new games there.

Wow, pretty even split! I'm not completely hyped, but I am looking forward to it. For Series X, it's going to be about how current/BC titles are further enhanced and the continued excellent value of Game Pass, and PS5 for the exclusives.

I'm excited, but since it's August with no real concrete details yet (release date, preorder info, launch games, pricing...) I'm not as excited as I would be otherwise. I'm also 100% certain that the pandemic is hampering my hype. It really, really sucks here in the USA right now.

Bought a PS4 and Switch at launch this gen and I currently have 0 hype for this upcoming generation. I did upgrade my PC recently so that could be why but I did the same before the PS4 came out. I'm actually more hyped for WoW:Shadowlands and PTCG: Darkness Ablaze, guess my taste have changed last few years.

Yeah it's muted. It's wierd, I'm usually I'm there day one with at least one console but I'm on the fence if I want to even do that or just upgrade my PC yet.

It feels like the big advancements day one are just gonna similar versions of existing game with 60fps/fast loading times and I just can't get excited about that, I'm perfectly happy with my One X/PS4/Switch

You know what,I'm actually more excited about next gen than ever before.
PlayStation studios are on fire,I'm upgrading to a 4K TV for the first time,I love the look of the console and the controller is even something I'm excited for and that's never happened before.
10 TF's of power seems crazy given what I've seen on my base PS4 recently that has like 1.8......the SSD is going to change a lot of things too it seems.....yea,pretty pumped for PS5!

I really feel like this is the case for me every gen dating back to the PS2 era. I like watching the trailers and following the news, but it takes me years to be interested enough to make an investment. I picked up an Xbox 360 about 4 years after launch, and a PS4 about three years in, and haven't regretted it. Killer-app type launch titles are cheap, and there's been enough time for deep cut and cult titles to release.

As a mainly PC gamer who is used to an SSD and high frame rates, I'm hyped for consoles being caught up again. The PS5 games shown look great too. So call me hyped.
I'm hoping against hope that the framerate emphasis turns out to be true. So many console games are intentionally paced and tooled to make 30 fps feel good (and in a lot of cases it really, really does), but 60 is universally the better option regardless of genre.

SSD on PCs is a legitimate game changer, especially considering how their prices have plummeted in the last five years. I don't mind the wait time on consoles, but every time I hop back onto PC I get spoiled by nearly instantaneous load screens.

Haven't really seen any launch game that impressed me and would hype me up to be honest.

Maybe if we got actual gameplay of Miles Morales I would be a bit more hyped.

I'm genuinely more excited for this generation than I ever have been for a generation (with the exception maybe being the PS2/ GC generation).

Whereas PS4 gave us a huge leap in GPU tech but not much else, we're getting huge increases in GPU, CPU and will also have games designed around SSD's.

The PS5 GPU alone is better in 2020 than the PS4 GPU was in 2013, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Industries aren't going to be equally effected. It seems very possible that the fact that more people are spending more time indoors and less time and money outside of their homes will drive a sizable group of people towards home entertainment.

Zero Hype. Everything we have seen up until now seems like a minor upgrade to what we already have. I just decided to put my Next Gen money elsewhere and maybe come back a few years down the line.

I'm sticking with PC (Gamepass goodness) and Switch for now. My PS4 pro is practically already sold. Just need to finish GoT.
