...nothing? It doesn't suddenly mean even in-dev titles HAVE to be single-platform. Just wait for official confirmations etc. Same as how Outer Worlds was multi-plat.

Are they nullified?
Is MS paying fine for voiding ?
Technically they now own these games.

What a clusterfuck lmao.

It's not even remotely a clusterfuck.

Y'all make it seem like this is Microsoft's first studio acquisition; we have had years of purchases now, and we already know what happens to games meant for other platforms that get caught up in the transition: fucking nothing. They release as intended.

The purchasing entity inherits the contractual obligations; all those obligations are outlined upfront and are factored in when a company decides whether or not to acquire another one. It's that simple.

We've seen how this plays out multiple times now. Microsoft has acquired multiple studios when they're halfway through making games for other consoles and they've always continued to release them for all previously announed platforms. Outer Worlds, Wasteland 3, Psychonauts 2 etc. They honour the contracts and announced platforms because that is what you have to do.

This is only a clusterfuck if you haven't been paying attention.
exactly, at least for the already announced games there is nothing to worry about. everything else will clear itself up later

They'll release on PS5, obviously.

But it wouldn't surprise me if MS works with Sony to drop the one year exclusivity.

Microsoft would love nothing more than to shoot both of those deals right in the head, but they can't do shit about them for now.

This statement from Todd Howard makes it sound like Bethesda games are staying Multiplatform:

yeah tbqh i imagine these studios will stay multiplatform. everything comes to gamepass day 1, or buy it for $70 on ps5. attracts more people to gamepass because of that zenimax/bethesda library, still lets people with ps5s spend the big bucks to buy the games themselves.

They will honour the agreements, or else have to buy out...which probably wouldn't make economic sense.

You should probably add that Playstation has timed exclusivity on these in the OP, because I don't think most of the posters in this thread know it (based on the replies).

I don't think it's that simple. This is the first acquisiton that has upcoming games with console exclusivity contracts with Sony, all the others only had publishing contracts with 3rd party, which they honored.

Also, I'm amused at how people are questioning whether Microsoft will or won't break the exclusivity contract and seemingly aren't even considering that it'd be on *SONY*'s best interests to do it.

Who knows? Those contracts would have a way to buy out, but who knows if that's even worth it to Microsoft.

There's a contract. MS can break that contract and pay Sony. Probably not worth considering the console versions of these games would still be in early dev since it's not the focus, so not worth the money.

Absolutely contracts can be broken. Let's see in the coming days, weeks, months where all of this takes us.

It's already contracted so those two games will go ahead on PS5 with whatever exclusivity period was originally agreed upon.

I believe Deathloop was a timed exclusive from the beginning, so that'll eventually make its way to XSX|S.

They're contractual obligations, just like with Wasteland 3 and The Outer Worlds they're gonna release them.
You don't gotta worry about any games they're currently working on releasing only on xbox, it's only games that start development AFTER today's acquisition. Hell, I think that even TESVI and Starfield will still release on PS5.

they will still happen.
Sony probably knew of this since at least 3 months ago, you don't just drop 7.5 BILLION USD.

Nothing will change -probably-. Also, the aquisition wont be finalised until the summer of 2021; so it wouldnt make much sense to interfere with games releasing in 2021.

For sure MS had a close look at the agreements and looked if they can find an escape that could bring it day and date to Xbox. For sure they couldn't find any because they are usually very tightly constructed. So the conclusion is it will come to PS5 first as planned.
