Sure it is... I just don't see this ending up with anything but disappointment for backers (including myself). It will be awfully easy now for the "new" company to say there are difficulties and just release digital or not even release Vita.

OG team is out and it's not like backers have any recourse. Meh... Oh well, at least we got the Steam version.

Hey. At least they showed us the stickers for the Gunpla, but not the Gunpla itself....

I guess I just lost over $150.

Backer message copypasta follows

Hello everyone,

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas! We're sorry it took so long to come back with an update. We originally planned to announce one last November, but the account transfers took time, causing a delay.

What does that mean?

Both Kickstarter and BackerKit accounts are now under ixtl, the parent company of Muv-Luv series. If you're wondering why this happened, it's simply because we have taken over the responsibility of rewards fulfillment and shipping, and the remaining Kickstarter promises. We need to know all backer details to make sure all the physical rewards are delivered to your doorstep without any problems.

What happened to the team?

As mentioned in the previous update, Degica has completed their part of the Kickstarter project and is leaving the team. We really thank them for all the work they have done over the years. We couldn't have made it this far without them.

"The Muv-Luv Team" is now composed of members from ixtl and the current Muv-Luv English localization team. Rest assured we're stronger than ever, and working at a faster pace with zero delays in communication. We're pretty excited for future projects to come.

Will ixtl send the rewards anytime soon?

There are only three remaining physical items at hand: the CODEX, Collector's box, and PS Vita. The CODEX was delayed due to formatting issues required by the printers, while the Collector's box and PS Vita requires the ROMs for both Muv-Luv titles to be gold master status before we mass-produce them. We are working closely with the translation team to fix the typos and bugs players are reporting.

Once these issues are resolved, we'll be sending more email reminders and updates as we approach the shipping day slated early next year. We have also recently finished printing the decals, and are currently in Tokyo Otaku Mode's warehouse. Feel free to take a closer look at the designs:

Thank you for supporting Muv-Luv series. It has been more than two years since the Kickstarter campaign ended with a massive success. Everyone in the team, especially the translators, have really outdone themselves in making everyone's dream come true.

The re-translation took time to finish, but we fully believe this will help us greatly in the long run, because at the end of the day, the official releases will help serve as a solid foundation for our future works. This is just the beginning, so please forward to our surprises in the years to come :)

*You can download the full resolution of both artworks above in your BackerKit account regardless of pledge level. We hope you like our Christmas present!

If you have any questions or requests, please don't hesitate to contact us at our improved customer support by messaging us here on Kickstarter, or emailing us at [email protected] for in-depth Backerkit account requests such as BackerKit account link recovery, change of shipping country and/or email address, and retrieving Steam codes.

Best wishes,

The Muv-Luv Team

What's the problem exactly?

I think the problem is that, afaik it wasnt known that after that was finished the rest of the backer rewards would be done by another company.

I think in Summer we got a mail "The physical rewards are nearly finished". Then we didnt hear anything since October till the beginning of December that there will be a christmas update and that is now "we are done lol, this company takes care of it now."

Yeap. Considering how late the whole thing is now, it's hard to believe anyone involved that physical items will be sent out as promised.

Heck, I am not certain Vita version will come out at all at this juncture.

A few hours into Wonderful Everyday Down the Rabbit Hole. I REALLY like the music. I also like the protagonist, she's chill as hell.

Not much happening yet though. Any ETA on when things get interesting and dark?

It's just the name of the chapter but just in case:
Down the Rabbit Hole II I guess but if I had to say then in It's My Own Invention.

Someone here played the yuri game Flowers? I'm interested in it but I want to see some opinions about it before.

Finished White Album 2: Closing Chapter. I don't know how to express it properly, but it's very, very good.

It's a project that's been around for years and is well known as a machine translation.
I don't know if that's true but if we choose to believe them then they updated in February that the Introductory Chapter has been fully retranslated, edited and proofread.
From what I know, before the retranslation it was a machine translation.

Is this the same storyline as White Album 2 anime (with obviously more then 1 route)? Is it actually available in English now?
The anime is WB2: Introductory Chapter, which is the story in high school. WB2: CC includes Closing Chapter, the story in college, and Coda, the story after graduation. Basically, the anime is like Muv-muv while WB2: CC is Muv-luv Alternative. The anime is low quality, just an ad for the console release of the game if you ask me. Unfortunately I don't think they are avaliable in English.

Finished Steam version of 999, having reached every ending.
I really enjoy room-escape games and so it was right up my alley.
The story and the way it unfolded itself across multiple playthroughs was also pretty good.

That said, the game was pretty annoying from a technical point of view. The UI was rough, beyond what can be excused by it being a mobile port, and not having an 'instant' text-speed and then binding the 'show full line' button to the 'action' button meant more than one instance of my accidentally selecting a dialogue choice while mashing through the text. There were also several lines that did not fit in the window in ADV mode, so that I had to scroll back to read them. And while having to go through rooms twice was annoying, the built-in flowchart meant that I only had to repeat a few rooms, and it also made getting all endings without a walkthrough a pleasant experience.

Looks like making the base game ftp with the routes as DLC on Steam turned out to be counterproductive for the porn patch.
I'm not sure how they could implement the patch without ending up making the whole game free for anyone simply downloading the patch given the setup, though they should definitely remove the online requirement to get the game to start.

It's kind of a dumb worry considering the game has been easily pirateable in English for months.

So I started Mahotsukai no Yoru, gotta keep the VN train going. It's very refreshing to play a game that takes its time after WB2. WB2's pacing is merciless, just emotion punch after punch, no cool down. This game, however, has this very cozy feeling. It slowly introduces the characters and the environment to you, and invites you to relax. I'm hooked.

What a shit-show.
They are screwing over their backers, the people most excited for the game, while everyone who doesn't want to pay can just go torrent the whole thing in 5 minutes.

While it pains me to say so (as somebody who just wants the all-ages version), it would probably have looked a lot better if they had released the patch for "free" and priced the game accordingly.

Yep, the Dies Irae kickstarter has been one mistake after another. Sad to see such an important VN treated this ineptly. It almost deserves a thread as its almost Mighty Number 9 levels of incompetance. They should have just given backers the mangagamer version.

A bit into Down the Rabbit Hole II of Sunahibi. It certainly has a stronger sense of foreboding than the first chapter did. Hasn't gotten too creepy yet, but I'm invested enough to see where things go.

I think I'm half way through Mahotsukai no Yoru. That production value though, you can just tell Type Moon is filthy rich.

I read that Umineko spoils Higurashi to some extent, but I've already read Umineko 'questions' and haven't started on Higurashi yet. Would it be worthwhile to read Higurashi before starting on Umineko 'answers'?

For better or worse, if you have read question arcs, you are already spoiled. There are few moments on answer arc that makes aforementioned spoilers even more obvious though.

Thank you. In that case I'll just finish Umineko before starting on Higurashi.
Hope the news don't sour you on Higurashi! I genuinely found it more enjoyable over Umineko - although I disagree with some of the game's messages - and the spoilers shouldn't be enough for one to figure out the central mystery (unless you are Sherlock Holmes capable of drawing solution from the most minor of hints).

Printemp was mediocre. The game is also episodic (meaning not everything is resolved at the end) so if you like to read the entire story without waiting, I recommend holding off until all four "seasons" are translated.

Don't worry, I am still really keen on reading Higurashi :)
I prefer going in without spoilers, but spoilers are not going to stop me from reading a good story.

I'm still slowly working my way through SeaBed, though I spend a lot of that time either bored or on the verge of falling asleep.

I'll give it one thing--it's very good at delivering absolutely massive, earth-shaking reveals in a completely detached, undramatic manner by placing them in entirely mundane scenes without ever drawing overt attention to them. I think I just hit the point that will make me push through toward the end without having to take long breaks anymore. One of those times when I came out of the characteristic trance it puts me in during a scene transition to say "WHAT" out loud once I finished processing the content.

It's playing one of the cheesy little jingles it plays during scene transition cards and I'm just sitting here like "Wait, no, go back to that for a minute, are we not going to TALK about this?"

EDIT: Yeah, this went from an intriguing snorefest to completely riveting out of nowhere. I may just finish it tonight.

Mahoyo is a great choice for Winter reading. Now that they have all that FGO money, I hope Type Moon can start working on the sequel lol

Finished Mahotsukai no Yoru!

About presentation. People say this game is similar to MLA in its presentation. While indeed these are probably two of the most "dynamic" VNs ever made, at their core they are different beasts. MLA uses tricks such as the movement of the character portrait on screen to create an illusion that the game is dynamic (the background is stage and the portraits are actors) while actually, all the backgrounds and portraits themselves are static. Mahoyo doesn't have the two layers of background and portraits. The characters are part of the background. It uses dynamic backgrounds extensively in combat scenes to create truly dynamic sequences. In regular scenes it uses more complicated editing of static background to achieve the same goal.

On to the story. Mahotsukai no Yoru is a simple boy meets girl story, on top of loads of typical Type-Moon gibberish. I seriously cannot stand watching the game explain to me what exactly is magic. I also find the way it works various real world tales, legends and objects into its setting quite laughable. I know fans of the series love that sort of stuff but all I can picture is a middle school kid browsing wikipedia.

Anyway, the production value is so high I can't say I regret spending time with it. The art, sound and editing are top notch. It's the classiest shit until it starts talking about magic and ploy and London Bridge. The opening is god tier.
