So to me this seems honestly incredibly un-penetrable... I've tried to look at a few but always get overwhelmed and hard to follow...

So like there is "generations" of this? But what does that mean? Is it just like Pokemon? Or do the "newer gens" have like better animation or something? Does previous gens get that? So confused.

So... Pekora is streaming Fall Guys right now and someone is stream sniping and grabbing her all the time. She's going insane lol.
It's most likely someone from her own chat. They do the same in Mario Kart. The reactions are always priceless.
Yep. I know it is not fair to make sweeping generalisations but, man, the 'nousagis' are a cruel bunch! It doesn't help that Pekora's smugness makes her subsequent hard-fall a fairly entertaining thing most of the time... :-P

The generation thing is just when they're introduced. Now we are at Gen 5 in Hololive, so this is the 5th batch of girls that's being introduced to us. So when we're speaking about generation it's just when they debut to us.

On the animation thing, all of them gets upgrade mostly at the same time, and new outfit as well.

Late but Nene is having her debut now. I wasn't big on the design at first glance, but it's actually pretty good. Props to their mama.
As one could expect, she's very nervous. It's good to have more people out there nonetheless!

Also can anyone explain Hololive Gamers to me? It doesn't seem to be a Generation and therefore Okayu and Korone don't seem to represent one.

Funny you should ask, I remember there was the thread on how corporate the vtuber business is here on Era and that was my first contact with them. I knew about them before as a vague idea but that was the first time I actually looked at them and read a discussion about them.

Didn't think much about it then because the discussion just went exactly as I suspected but then the thread keeps getting bumped to first page weeks maybe months later and it got me curious. Turns out some bastards enlightened people keep posting more vids about them and talking about how they fell into the hole. I specifically remember the yagoolive, korone doom ending, and tetris suisei as the first vtuber clips I watched.

...and now here we are.

Speaking of Aki-Roze, I've been taking a look at more of her clips and stumbled upon this

I was never into ASMR much, I mean it could feel nice so I get the appeal but I have never felt the need for more.
After this gift though I feel I can sympathize with ASMR fans deeply, God my ears feel blessed for the day

wow that was awesome

Have you checked out korone's Doom streams? They were what did it for me. And generations are just when they joined hololive. Hololive introduces new vtubers in waves (takes time to interview and build the characters). Currently gen 5 is debuting this week.

I talked about Belmond as the 5th most popular Nijisanji male VTuber and I figure I ought to highlight the other 4 in terms of how they've grown in popularity by associating with others. Hayato Kagami only recently beat out Belmond in subscribers with his recent 3D debut stream, but he's always been decently popular.

He's part of the the music unit "le jouet" along with Ryushen (arguably the most popular music-focused Nijisanji member) and Kakeru Yumeoi, regularly releasing covers and original songs.

Kagami is actually the main instigator of most of the Nijisanji ARK conflicts, which is why it was literally like a Game of Thrones event with alliances, war, and negotiations. Folks would tune into his channel because he'd likely be the one to start something. When the four strongest forces in the Nijisanji ARK server were having a conference, Kagami decided to take that chance to abduct a key VIP that the 4 empowers swore to protect. His tribe held the VIP hostage in exchange for materials that would speed up their tech tree for more advanced weaponry.

(This channel translated a decent amount of Nijisanji ARK clips, here's their playlist)

He collabs regularly with other male VTubers like Kuzuha for Duel Masters, as well as the two VTubers he debuted alongside, Yorumi and Fuyuki.

There was a "Nijisanji Men's Project" competition that garnered 400K views, which had male Nijisanji members voice act scenarios against one another, and a panel of female VTubers would judge who was better. Kagami entered with a Doctor scenario.

It refers to when they debut the talents. In wrestling terms, imagine 1st gen consist of Undertaker, Stone Cold, The Rock. 2nd gen John Cena, Edge, Orton. 3rd gen Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan, AJ styles. And so on.

Older gen is the senpai (senior). Newer gen is the kouhai (junior).

Maybe I will have to check it out. I guess it's all hard to wrap my head around since it feels very artificial (maybe that's the point?). I guess I never really understood how big this was until I logged onto Epic Seven one day and there was an event where they gave out a Kizuna AI unit (is she still a thing? I'm guessing so)

Are they using a VR headset with a camera? Or is this more like a Kinect situation?

Guessing vTubers are sort of be like... Youtubes version of the idol culture in Japan? But for gaming? Are vtubers a single person or basically a group of writers with a performer?

From what little has been talked about it, we can infer that the unit label was supposed to encompass all talent specialising in gaming only (and to tangentially introduce Mio alone, shortly after 2nd generation but without having to call it a 3rd generation already). However, plans changed and management opted to push for a more homogeneous "idol family" group image instead. As a consequence this signalled some reluctance to engage in more "idol" stuff by members like Okayu, as she expressed herself:

Here's Korone playing doom 2016 for the first time and her awe and wonder at the game hooked me.

So from what I can gather, Kizuna AI was scripted but the current active vtubers are essentially streamers that do have a company backing them and get a salary from them, get support and designed their character models but do their own streams/collabs. Fans are more response to vtubers now for being more personable and not "pure" as you'd expect from idol culture. For hololive, there is a joke that the ceo of hololive wanted to make the vtuber version of AKB48 but ended up with this group of dream crushing degenerates instead.

Tech wise, when they just do 2d, its facial capture but when they do 3d they go into the studio to record that, not sure what they use

Seems like I have an ever increasing clips backlog, thanks guys hahaha.

Nene was nice. Really funny to see she so nervous. Since she said she wanted to make a Hololive theme park it would be nice if she played RCT or Planet Coaster.

Botan stream is already up.

On other news, Aki is now a r/hololive mod.

I was wondering the same thing yesterday and stumbled upon this. Looks like Gamers debuted in between 2 and 3 with Fubuki being both in gen 1 and leading it.

Hololive

Hololive Production (ホロライブプロダクション hororaibu purodakushon, stylized in lowercase), or simply known as hololive (ホロライブ), is a Virtual Talent agency consisting of Virtual YouTubers owned by Japanese tech entertainment company COVER Corporation. The name hololive was initially used for COVER's 3D...

There's essentially two types of VTubers: folks like Kizuna AI who make edited and scripted short-form content using a 3D model, including mocapping movements, or the hololive/Nijisanji members who generally live-stream content with a 2D avatar and only need to use a face-tracking software. The latter can also have 3D models, but that is more resource-intensive so it's generally not the norm. It's also a celebration event of sorts when a 2D VTuber gets popular enough to warrant a 3D model made of them, at least for hololive/Nijisanji.

hololive specifically is a VTuber group that fashions itself as a VTuber version of idol culture with gaming, so they have some restrictions similar to idols, but the Nijisanji VTuber group and other independent VTubers are closer to Twitch streamers, just with an animated avatar instead of a face cam. Most VTubers are generally a single individual, but 3D streams generally involve the staff. Kizuna AI and similar VTubers with edited and scripted content will generally also have others be involved with scripting, mocapping, and editing, though the characters themselves are played by a single person.

Do you have a preference on what kind of streamers/content you like watching, or games? That'd give us a better idea on which VTubers to recommend.

Furen just played Winnie the Pooh's Home Run Derby a few hours ago. (For those unfamiliar with it, it's legendarily difficult, despite being a Flash game for actual children.) Absolutely give it a watch if you don't need subs, the whole hour is hilarious.

She then decided to do an endurance stream soon to beat Tigger. Christopher Robin might not be in the cards, lol.

'VTubers' are giving me life, so all is good! :-D

I can't help but smile every time I see you throw them an 'spachat'... didn't you just make that in Marine's first Fall Guys stream?

You got me! lol. You should keep note of my first Superchat shoutout ever, from Korone, in your history books:

It was wonderful! One of my few highlights this year. *sniffle*

So there's this DK player in Smash that goes by the name PornHub that taunts/trolls, and they regularly pop up in VTuber Smash streams. Here's 4 encounters:

In terms of streamers I don't watch nearly as many as I did before. Usually watching Maximilian Dood, Jesse Cox (specifically Scary Game Squad), and WoolieVs.

I'm gonna very loosely make my suggestions based on abstract similarities, so for Scary Game Squad, which is a group of guys playing a game together, here's 3 Male VTubers playing Apex together after an Apex tournament.

For Maximilian Dood/WoolieVS, who are generally fighting game players, there was a Nijisanji Smash Casual Tournament (items/smash meter on), so here's a Translated clip compilation of the winner's matches.

It'd be remiss of me not to suggest hololive, so here's a quick guide on all the non-debut hololive members in case any strike your fancy.

Finally, if you have any interest in rock music/concerts, Kagami Hayato did his 3D debut in the form of a live rock concert, with fully mocapped band as well. I'd say it's the peak in terms of 3D VTuber stream quality.

There's literally hundreds of them, so it's ultimately a matter of finding some you find enjoyable and then going up from there.

Chat: You can't just say brrrr at the end of every sentence!
Risu: No. I can. Brrrrrr.

(This is the entire stream, not sure if there's any translated clip yet.)

Haachama just made 2nd (as in was right behind the winner) in Fall Guys when she's trying to truck to 1st for the stream. Broke my Haachama-chama! :(

Missed Nene's stream so I was just catching up on some highlights (damn the clippers & translators are getting faster and faster)

So she likes gyoza huh? Ok
She watched Haachama cooking (burning it black is more accurate) and wanted some of hers?!
As long as it's cooked by Haachama she'll eat anything?

I can't even-
But hey she can sing pretty idol-like so...

p.s this Lamy x Nene clip has been going around.

Feels nice to see I guessed right for now that Lamy seems to the calm, motherly type like Mio. For now lol
It's cute that Nene actually uses that headpat looop during her debut stream to calm down too.
