Viking braid

I wanna braid my hair like Vikings from TV shows. I have no clue if actual Vikings styled their hair like that. But my hair is growing longer and longer, as I am not going to the barber now, and I can only manage to trim/shave both sides, and the back on my own.

So is it gonna be easy to braid the top portion? Any of you do it?
