I'm kind of conflicted. Is this just promoting a "guns are cool" image? But if so, does that then say the movie itself is also promoting certain values that are controversial in today's society?
I feel like these clips are less about the guns and more about "look guys, these actors can actually do the stuff you see in the movies. They are actually gifted with high dexterity/execution and are talented IRL!"

Given the fact that both Keanu and Halle are aging, (like wine, mind you) it is even more impressive that they still can hang like this. Certainly more gifted than some younger folks on the message board.... Not pointing any fingers.

As a firearms instructor I've met Taran at multiple events but haven't had the chance to train with him.

The John Wick films have hands down the best firearms handling I've ever seen. The attention to detail with round count and reloads make me feel happy in the pants.

Edit: You gotta post how insanely good Taran is.

I think it's less that and more so showing how dedicated these actors are. A lot of the time there is a level of inauthenticey to movies that show actors using guns and others equipment but clearly have no idea how they should be handled. So with John Wick it adds to it that they understand how they work. Even something as simple as reloading is often ignored in some action movies.

The Matrix really raised the bar for Hollywood action thrillers in the kind of prep work required by audiences. It was virtually unprecedented at the time of the late 90s that actors like Laurence Fishbaurene and Hugo Weaving would have to spend months of rigerous training before the cameras rolled. 20 years later, its become standard practice for every superhero/fantastic/hand to hand movie out there.

John Wick is probably one of the most direct descendants from the Matrix. Its like if somebody tried to build an entire movie off the famous Lobby Shootout. Keanu Reeves, slick black outfit, stylishly dispatching faceless goons. Its heavily influenced by anime and Hong Kong Action cinema, with bits of pieces from other "cool" cinema like Le Samourai, Point Blank, Sergio Leone. Keanu, in particular, is VERY into all the choreography and work that goes into action filmmaking. He was the guy most excited about the original Matrix, and he was the one who got his Matrix stunt doubles/directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch involved. He takes a lot of pride in these films, and anybody who's working with him(in this case, Halle Berry) has to step up to his level of commitment.

Hand to Hand combat and physique maybe. But firearms training is pretty shit overall in TV and movies.

Pretty much all action movies do, and plenty of video games. Some even use it as a tentpole for certain action scenes (Expendables - AA-12, T2 - minigun).

I can delineate between the fiction of guns never running out of ammo and magically missing all the innocents and the reality of bullets bludgeoning their way through victims' bodies, but it wouldn't surprise me if many don't. I think it's too low-level for it to be contentious enough to be called controversial. It'd have be more direct with characters making crass quips about "anti-second amendment bleeding hearts" for it to be that.

Guns are pretty cool. They are also dangerous, which is why regulation is important. This seems more like showing off her training. Gun porn to me is like Devil May Cry where you're doing shit with your guns that make no sense from a technical standpoint but boy does it look cool

Damn They are badass. I am a decent shot with 9mm handguns and lower recoil rifles. Wish I could do this.

Weapons are cool. Guns are cool. But not everyone should have free access to it. They should be regulated. And if you have a gun you need to be trained to use it, registered, licensed, background checked, etc. It's simple common sense.

On topic, I wouldn't mind a Halle Berry Wick spin off.
