... unless you are missing something it was a pretty good decade... very few SUPER BAD movies or very disrespectfull ones like the first street fighter or the KoF one.

While Detective Pikachu is the only one I would consider very good, Tekken and the resident evil ones are the only ones I would consider TRASH

If Ralph and Scott counts than Jumanji and Edge of Tomorrow totally should too

And its not even close

This is cheating, but I'll allow it and cosign the choice.
Okay, am I missing a meme or are we allowing it as VG adjacent because it has gamey elements of respawning when you die? Because it's based on a novel and manga, not a game. Hell, I kind of wish there had been a game for it, it's one of my favorite movies from the past 20 years.

And if we're going by that particular criteria, we may as well call Groundhog Day in here.

Detective Pikachu as far as based on games.

Not counting Wreck it Ralph, Scott Pilgrim and so on; since those are themed around games with stuff from a few games .

Ready Player One was cool though and I watch Scott Pilgrim every year.

Out of the movies based on explicit IPs, Pikachu is obviously the best, but Warcraft wasn't that terrible, and even fixed a few continuity holes left by the games like Thrall's green skin. They are still outclassed by Wreck it Ralph of course (the original, I mean; the sequel was pretty mediocre).

If Ralph and Scott counts than Jumanji and Edge of Tomorrow totally should too

Ralph and Jumanji are explicitly about videogames, so if one counts, the other also should. Scott Pilgrim is a bit more debatable as it has videogame elements like extra lives bleed into the non-videogamey world. Edge of Tomorrow is a stretch; if that counts, then so do Groundhog Day and Russian Doll.

Scott Pilgrim is great, but does it really count as a video game movie? I never got that vibe from it other than that "1up" scene.

I also really liked Warcraft even though it was kind of rushed, and might have been hard to understand for people not familiar with Warcraft lore. The CG was great, and it was just some great fanservice for fans of the games.

Groundhog Day is not from this decade

Yes, we are using videogame very loosely when we say Scott Pilgrim, Jumanji and Edge of Tomorrow

Ready Player One

If it has to be an actual adaptation of an existing videogame I go with Detective Pikach.

Both movies were great.

I've not seen Pikachu, but out of the ones I have seen my favourite is probably Warcraft. I liked it mostly but my main beef was that none of the human actors felt right for their roles. But the orc stuff was really good and the special effects on the orcs was fantastic.

Edit - if Scott Pilgrim really counts then it's a clear winner, but aside from having a video game structure and loads of subtle game jokes and sound effects I don't really see why anyone would consider it a videogame movie.

Wreck It Ralph is the GOAT but if we're counting adaptations only...

The last Tomb Raider was solid.
And, of course, Scott Pilgrim is fantastic, even if it's a comic book movie.

Detective Pikachu is probably the best one, and should be the benchmark for video game movies going forward - less direct adaptations, more fun experiments that capture the "feel" of the source property while being their own spin on things.

Though that didn't help Assassin's Creed, which is a movie I've forgotten entirely.

Also I liked Kingsglaive: FFXV well enough. It was a visual spectacle, at the very least, and probably the best Final Fantasy movie, even if the competition there ain't exactly much.

If we're gonna count movies that aren't actually based on a video game, then it's Wreck-it Ralph by a mile.

p.s. Detective Pikachu is as crap as your average video game adaptation. Cute Pokemon can't save it. An actually good video game adaptation has yet to be made.

If Scott Pilgrim counts, it's Scott Pilgrim purely on the merit that it's an actual good film instead of just being 'not that bad, I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯'

Wreck-It Ralph would be #2.

If we're going video game adjacent surely The Raid counts? Moving up floors of a building like they're levels and it even has boss fights.

If we are going that route. Hardcore Henry from 2015 was basically FPS: The movie. And I don;t just mean because the movie uses a first person gimmick. The plot basically follows the same formula as an 2010-era FPS, with mini boss characters, escort missions, a turret section, NPC's, crazy bosses, etc.

Rampage was solid. Need for Speed was decent.

Ready Player One is the best video game movie.

I actually enjoyed the Pikachu movie. i thought it looked awful at first but watched it just for the sake of it and liked it more than i imagined.

the only other vg movie i liked was Tomb Raider.

tried watching Warcraft but had to turn it off.

I remember a post claiming that Angry Birds 2 was "The Godfather of video game movies".

Maybe one day I'll find out.

Idk either Warcraft or Detective Pikachu.

Tomb Raider was decent, but it really just made me want to play the games which did the same thing 10 times better.

My main memory of going to see that Tomb Raider movie was the screen freezing for about 20 seconds but nobody really cared enough to react or get up and tell an employee about it.
