The "both sides have their faults" argument is the same thing assholes do with elections. Sure, the Republicans have spent decades appealing to racism to establish their foothold, disenfranchising the less powerful and encouraging anti-intellectualism to convince them that they're being helped by it, but that's okay because the Democrats have to be just as bad.

After all, the Democratic and the Republican parties aren't just gangs of politicians who have teamed up to increase their chances of achieving common interests, the result of numerous other political factions dying out and reforming in a history of efforts to maintain their power in the landscape. No, they're forces of nature, shadows, yin and yang, where everything one does is cosmically reflected in the other.

It doesn't make any damn sense if you think about it for a millisecond, but it's simple to understand and it looks nice. So it's an easier to use that narrative than to actually try to make sense of things, because that way your side might end up looking like the worse one.

I think this post I saw over at ANN from a long time convention staffer was worth sharing.

TLDR: contract didn't have a morality or other options out clause. Vic's lawyer likely kindly suggested to the con about the ability sue for breech of contract so they invited him back.

Rather than face a court case where they would be able to state the credible accusations as reason to act in the interest of the general public, they took the easy way out. I get it. Dissapointed, but I get it. Vic won because might makes right here.

Obviously the con isn't going to go after the VAs and others cancelling now. That's a fool's errand considering fear of safety would be easy to establish given all the twitter nonsense going out there all the way up to death threats.

It's sad.

Just the fact that the fandom I saw 20 years ago, that welcomed all kinds of weirdos is dissolving. One of the first places where trans folk could put their toe in the water with expressing themselves was a real joy. The conventions where the quiet outcasts could find their tribe and end up with lifelong friends from are digressing into something ugly.

All the Stans have no idea just how much it hurts. My con staff friends are all aghast that most of the fandom we knew to be a mostly accepting lot have put so much effort in denying the behind the scenes stories we all spent YEARS trying to keep behind the curtain as to not let the drama touch the kids. Many of us are quietly discussing security and hoping nothing happens as we approach the summer con season.

I think a lot of us thought that when all the individual stories from all the years came out people would understand it. After seeing how Cosby and Weinstein used their position to cover up their heinous behavior we could finally have the Vic talk.

The fact that so many of you are calling us liars and denying our experiences is a painful form of gaslighting. You shout trite talking points not knowing what happened and insist the people who were there didn't experience anything. Even 20 years ago I have never seen the sheer misogyny expressed as of late. That the simple act of speaking up against a low grade celebrity's actual behavior would invite sheer hatred is alarming.

To all the Stans who feel they got a win, you shouldn't celebrate. I'm mourning the loss of the fandom where a generation came together learning it was okay to be a geek. I don't know if I'd take my niece to one as I promised.

I hope Vic's happy and the attention is worth it.

Wow, most of comments on Renfamous's pinned tweet are otherworldly. They're all from a horde of screeching babies who are fascist but totally not fascist. Right down to "hating hate speech is hateful itself! Isn't that a paradox?!" and "why are you trying to eliminate free speech??", i.e. "arguments" that have been shut down years ago. Is being dense a prerequisite to being hateful or something?

Just putting this out here. In the past months i have blocked around 200-300 VicStans on Twitter. AT LEAST.

But i also blocked NJ4K1 (for obvious reasons) and Renfamous. Because Renfamous is nothing else but our version of some of the more annoying and obsessed VicStans. Including Doxxing and other harmful behaviour.

So Vic's willing to take a convention down with him and further fracture the DBZ fan base all over his fragile ego and inability to be a better person?

Just incredible stuff. Conventions will also certainly make sure they have contracts more in their favor potentially at the expense of VA's as a result too because of this.

I'm gonna be honest and say that it's likely that most of these people aren't part of the DB fanbase. Even if they are, this might actually be a good thing. Look at it as weeding out all the people who were too cowardly to say this shit when they thought it was just them.

If Vic has power over this con, they fucked up their contract. Tons of conventions dumped Vic without issue, but for some reason Vic is going after this one? They fucked up if they gave the guest that much power.

I've been following Ren for a long time, long before the Vic stuff, and what you're claiming are things that Comicsgate made up. She fights them incessantly, which of course results in them accusing her of everything under the sun, constantly. In particular the "doxxing" was repeating publicly-available information (like from their fucking Twitter profile), as opposed to how Comicsgaters have posted her home address numerous times.

See, I find it best not to equate a group and the people against that group. There is no coordinated Anti-Vic, just like there's no coordinated Anti-Comicsgate or Anti-Gamergate or anything else. These ideas are things that the harassment campaigns make up to make themselves look legitimate. It's both-sides-ing harassment. There is no "our". What you actually stand for is the important part, rather than whether or not you fight for it. There is an objectively correct position on all of these things, and defending that position cannot ever make you equal to people pushing harassment and bigotry, no matter how much they want to declare that "considering bigotry to be wrong" is bigotry itself.

"Geek culture" is unrecognisable from how it was even 10 years ago. Far right agitators pushing their beliefs on vulnerable minds and content creators cultivating terrible behaviour as a form of "engagement" have destroyed so much that people previously on the outside of the social world had built up.

I don't know where it goes from here.

Actually as a long term con goer and a member of geek culture for 25+ years... Adding to that having a wife who has been in the lewd cosplay scene since 10+ years.

Geek Culture has always been like this. It's just that the rise of social media and instant opinion sharing has made it easier to see.

My wife has been stared at for daring to be in a gaming store before. Not to mention all the horrible comments and assumptions made about her for being a pretty girl in a cosplay.

In meat space things even seem to be getting better. But online it's just as vile as it always was. Just now everyone can see it.

I tend to look at stuff like this as a pushback. The Internet is allowing certain voices to be louder than they were before, which spreads awareness of those groups. Subsequently, those who were comfortable with silence before are now pressured to be loud themselves, since now it takes effort to silence those voices.

From a fellow FUNimation VA:

Anyone know what's going on here? Vic's defense force is accusing her of double standards over some dubious accusations, but I'd rather not run the risk of citing alt-right yarns.

From what she said in the original tweets, it was actually that he was caught with a shady program he was using to pirate shows. I can't remember if it had infected his computer and added CP or if the police just considered having the program to be equivalent.

Damn, poor Sarah, really like her work. And of course one of the comments talking about being on Vic's side AND supporting Sarah is "Vic-level kindness". BARF!

the difference between the cases is stark regardless, one is criminal, one isn't even a case yet, civil or criminal.

I mean one is close family while the other is a coworker so I understand sticking up for your brother in a bad situation. Most of my family is shitbags but I still love them.

Guys, should I still be friends with someone who said 'both sides are at fault in the vic thing" and that the accussations can't be proved or disproved or should I explain to him? I mean, he was unaware they'd been going on for years?

Because of the heated nature of the discussions we've all seen about this issue on social media and elsewhere, it can be hard not to feel attacked when talking about this to people that don't agree; just focus on making your case. Your friend should understand why this issue is important to you. Even if your friend doesn't understand that in the moment, whatever you say will rattle around in his head for a few days afterward.

Had a good laugh, saw someone on twitter claiming that Vic is bigger than any of the Dragon Ball cast. Imagine thinking that Vic fucking Mignogna is bigger than the voice of Vegeta/Piccolo/Kuwabara/All Might/etc.

These people are gonna realize just how easily replaceable he is.

Unlike Sabat and Hamill. You could replace Vic and most would likely not notice. It is going to be funny to see who replaces him as Qrow in RWBY. Other than that I can't think of a lead (ongoing) role he cannot easily be replaced in.

Brain worms.
They have brain worms.
Ed Elric is a big role, sure, but FMA was never as humongous as fucking DBZ or MHA. And no one remembers Ouran unless you bring it up.

Honestly there's ONE role of Vic's in anything I've heard of him that I can't think of a replacement for, and you could probably find one easy enough. Fittingly, it's a really creepy character too, heh.

They're right though, Vic has given us so many memorable moments. What's everyone's favourite Broly moment in the Dragonball series?

When Broly first went Super Saiyan against Freeza because Krillin was killed is an obvious one, though I more often hear about the one in the filler where Broly went off into the spaceship and said "I don't care" after his training failed. They're not as commonly mentioned but I think all the moments with Future Broly talking with his son, Future Trunks, and planning how to save their timeline were surprisingly emotional for Dragonball though.

My favorite Broly moment will be when I learn who's replacing Vic

Also Goku alone makes Schemmel a bigger VA than all of Vic's roles combined tbh, not to mention how Sabat is a major player in pretty much all of Funi's biggest dubs, hell Monica plays a pretty important character in lot of their biggest dubs as well.

Vic has Ed and Broly, and not even Broly soon.

LOL.

I was sad Vic was chosen to play Yamato in the Digimon Tri Movies. Why didn't they get Reisz back? This tweet makes it even sadder...

yeah....

I click retweet on those Shatner tweets with no additional comments and now I am using Shatner to """""DESTROY""""" Vic. It's incredible how much power they think my retweets of things OTHER people said have.

Honestly, I always thought he was the weakest among the original cast, barring maybe Colleen's Sora. Regardless, that tweet does sting -- if only they got someone else!

Also digging how ANN's band of crazy forum trolls present "evidence" of you lying about being harassed by Vic, although thankfully the staff flushes that garbage quick.

What's next, you being in league with George Soros? lol

Anybody have any idea what happened to Renfamous on Twitter?

How can people say Vic is dragonball when like a good chunk of his lines are KAKAROT!

Considering how many Vic defense forcers are just gater bandwagon jumpers they probably think "Dragonball" is the name of the character Vic voices in it. The only DB these clowns know anything about is Vic himself (Translator's note: DB means douchebag).

Also i find it funny that these guys are still on the 'Vic is gonna sue you guys and take all your money' train, considering it's been over 2 months since this shit started and as far as we're aware no papers have been served, doesn't that usually happen faster than this?

The other dumb/cringy shit was that stupid #fearthebeard shit... like what's that supposed to mean, telling people to fear some hack lawyer sure sounds like you're on the morally right side of things.
