Regardless of all the problems I had with Fallout 4, the idea of announcing the game like 4 months before it came out was a cool plan I thought. Everyone knew that they were making it so they really didn't need to throw up a logo 3 years before it came out.

Yeah, this does indeed feel like a just-before-launch "Don't worry, Anthem isn't all we're doing; buy it with an eased heart, because Dragon Age is not dead."

I mean. Like I've said upthread, I'm honestly fine with that. It sucks that I'll be like 34 when this game finally comes out, but life is short, more at 11.

You're operating on rather outdated information. (1) Schreier walked back the "reboot" terminology. It wasn't back to square one. (2) Casey Hudson quickly clarified after that article that the "GaaS element" for Dragon Age would be post-launch story content (so, essentially, what Dragon Age's DLC has always been).

Dragon Age is one franchise I've never played. I have Inquisition on PS4 (picked it up cheap at GameStop once) and have desires to play it, but it keeps falling deeper into my backlog.

Guess they're taking a page out of Bethesda's book and just announce they're working on it and nothing more. Just like with The Elder Scrolls 6.

What that person was asking was if they had rebooted the entire story -- ie; scrapped Solas and all of the other dangling plot threads from Inquisition -- and that's what I was responding to.

They absolutely rebooted the entire version of DA4 that was in development. It changed code names and everything. We will not see it for a very long time.

Ah, that's not how I read their tweet, and thus your response. Appreciate the clarification.

I don't think it comes as a surprise to anyone that DA4 is quite far off, considering the studio's focus on Anthem came off the heels of Andromeda's own resource reallocation. DA4 never had a chance to get terribly far into focused development.

If Bioware can keep Papa EA happy that long.

This is almost like a plea for Anthem sales to support Bioware as DA is 3 years away.

EA have no issues completely nuking teams or studios. Such as Visceral.

Bethesda HAD to announce TES6 or they would have been eaten alive. At that point they were very aware that everyone already had their pitchforks at the ready. Looking at how things went down at Blizzcon with Diablo, I think they made the right call.

Still a long time away, but like with TESVI I will be happy to know there is at least something coming. If the announcement is about a proper sequel to Inquisition in the first place, of course.

I wouldn't be all that interested in a spin-off if it doesn't develop the plot further in a meaningful way.

If it's three years away, then we're three years away from when the announcement should be.

I'm all favor of the Capcom/Bethesda trend of only announcing half a year before launch. Everyone should be on that boat.

2021 seems entirely plausible.

Hopefully the DA4 announcement comes with a trailer story twist that generates lots of speculation from everyone.

Agree with everyone that although BW said they wanted to start announcing games closer to release, the "DA is dead and BW is an Anthem studio now!" narrative has gotten unbearably annoying and hopefully will quiet down.

Seems a bit bizarre to go off focus right when they should be 100% talking about Anthem which is releasing now in 2 months. Is it confidence in how good Anthem is, or is a under-the-table message to fans "hey sorry if Anthem sucks, but don't worry here is DA4 coming next!"

I am at two minds about this. On one hand I am happy a new game is confirmed but on the other it's 3 years away. It's a next gen title.

I hope they make it the last Dragon age with all /most of the major plot points addressed. I'm not a fan of looking forward to a next entry while worrying it will get canned.

Yeah I don't really want them to end it all, but DA has been waiting for so long. ME had it's turn, and now another sifi shooter rpg thing. I hope Andromeda doesn't kill them. If they are on life support after I will be there to put in my money for DA4 though.

I was looking at Game of Thrones recently thinking DA could, or should have been capitalizing off of people's GOT thirst with this game. They did have some nods to it in DA3 I think though.

It definitely has the feels of this. I'd be a little worried for Anthem. Not in terms of initial sales, but in terms of audience reaction/ word of mouth. This feels exactly the same as what Bethesda just did to calm their audience.

Obviously it's an assumption, but it seems like EA / Bioware is a little scared of reaction to Anthem.

Still !! DA is my favorite series lore-wise and I'm really happy it's gonna get a new game !!
