Yeah, that's a bummer if true. Really enjoyed the multiplayer in 3 (and, dare I say... Andromeda).

If Switch versions are direct ports, there might be a chance they could come out earlier, who knows?

Bummer, but ME1 gunplay is garbage compared to 2 and 3 so I imagine that would require a lot of work.

In any case, now I'm freely going to try the games on Xbox Series X in november as I think they'll make a fascinating case study for its BC features like AI HDR and whatever else they are cooking up.

All ME1 'needs' is ME3's combat backported. You can gatekeep as much as you like, that combat system was dated then and is ancient now.

I honestly think ME1 is the only great game in that whole franchise so I hope they don't fuck it up by making it more like the other ones.

Collections like this rarely end up with their multiplayer components intact. Server costs and all that.
Considering servers are still up for the original, Anthem and even Andromeda that doesn't make too much sense, they'd have a fresh playerbase who would buy the packs like I would.

That's fine there is to much shit releasing at the end of this year as it is.

Take time and don't fuck up a remaster of this caliber please.

They're going to change the best Mass Effect game and remove the good thing from the worst Mass Effect game.

ME1 actually needs a full on remake.

Game needs a lot more than a few tweaks in my opinion.

I imagine ME1 is the least "modern" as far as game design. Going to need to add a lot of waist-high cover.

Genuinely curious to see how much of this they've revamped.

As terrible a job as they did with the story of ME3, I still have some amount of fondness for the series.

No ME3 multiplayer, no buy.

bummer, I was really hopeful to be able to play that again with friends. Couldn't care less about the single player games.

hope it's a good package for people who DO want those single player games though!

You mean to tell me the best game in the series is holding things back because it isn't as bad as the rest of the series?

I am excited for ME1 being reworked.. but super disappointed in no multiplayer. I would have gladly dumped hundreds of hours into it

ME3 combat in ME1 would make it pretty much the perfect scifi game. ME3 combat was a great mix of the dumbed down mechanics of ME2 and the overly RPG mechanics of ME1.

ME1's combat is abject trash, if you disagree you either delusional or you haven't played the game in a decade.

ME3 Multiplayer was the best part...

Can they at least implement the use of those multiplayer characters, classes, and abilities in ME3?

No ME3 MP is a real bummer. Glad they take their time with ME1 though. Can't wait.

OT: Is the Andromeda MP any good?

I honestly maintain that Mass Effect 1 was the only truly great game in that series. 2 and 3 are both fine, but ME1 was something special. Landing on planets and being able to explore mostly empty wastelands with really interesting, at times, skyboxes just felt good to me.

A lot of extra posts in here. ME1 isn't bad by it's design, it's rough by things like it's cover and combat compared to later games in the series. It just needs more of a flow rather than stiffness to be caught up.

You're fooling yourself if you think ME1 isn't a stiff game compared to everything after. Which makes sense due to it basivally being Biowares first ever TPS/Shooter.

You can have the same ME1 experience without it being janky to play. 60FPS only gets you so far when it's a issue of the games skeletal structure.

Oh man, no MP sucks. It's my GOAT co-op horde mode.

The combos you could pull off in a coordinated group were so much fun.

While I thought ME1 was flawed at the time I at least preferred what they were trying to do with the game to the style of combat we got in ME2; my interest in the collection was honestly mostly getting to go back and replay ME1. Depending on what they change/how much they change it this might potentially kill the collection for me; it'd be good news for the people that preferred the way things worked in ME2+, though, and there's probably more of them than people who feel like me so ultimately probably a smart call.

Yuuuuup.

Mass Effect was one of my favourite series, but honestly they'd need to jettison the whole plot of ME2 and ME3 to make it a good trilogy. The seeds for that ending were sown the moment ME2 started.

Getting ME1 to the standards of ME2/ME3 from a gameplay perspective is *way* too much work. They would have to redesign enemies, levels, and powers. That would have to be near remake tier.

It makes sense. ME1 is naturally going to be the start for most new players, and the combat is pretty oooff

I don't have any issue with them potentially making ME1 play and control more like the sequels.

Updating ME1 in some fashion is excellent news in my book. It has the best overall narrative but its mediocre combat has kept some of my friends from getting through the trilogy for far too long.

I don't care about ME3 multiplayer's exclusion at all on a personal level. Zero interest there. But I do feel for those who were excited for its return.

Sounds more like ME1 evangelist stuff, but sure

I will not be swayed into hating ME2 and ME3. Not again.

Well, good luck to them then.

Don't think theres anyway they can really "fix" ME1 style combat but I'm curious to see.

As excited as I am for this release, it definitely makes me a bit sad. There was nothing this gen that was remotely close to Mass Effect in terms of a huge, sprawling, choice-driven narrative that spanned three games. It was just such an incredible thing at the time, and more so in retrospect.

If they found a way to get rid of ME1's text popups at the end of missions I'd be so happy. Even a voiceover would be preferable. It sticks out so bad every time I've ever gone back to it.

Yep, this game would never be made the way it was in 2020.
