Um, if I'm out, I'm pretty fucking sure I'd rather wait a little longer to be served than have a fucking sick person working around my food and drink.
Robert J. O'Neill (born 10 April 1976) is a motivational speaker, Fox News contributor, and former United States Navy SEAL (1996–2012). After participating in May 2011's Operation Neptune Spear with SEAL Team Six, O'Neill was the subject of controversy for claiming to be the sole individual to kill Osama bin Laden.
Virginia's violent crime rate is the lowest of all states in the South Atlantic region. At 2.1 incidents per 1,000 people, Virginia's violent crime rate is 43% lower than the national average of 3.7.
But there was a slight increase in the violent crime rate year over year—Virginia creeped up 5%, from 2.0 incidents last year to 2.1.
Property crime is also lower in Virginia, with only 16.4 incidents reported per 1,000 people, compared to 21.1 nationwide. Virginia holds the second-lowest property crime rate in the South Atlantic region, behind West Virginia with 15.8 incidents per 1,000 people.
This is the third consecutive year that Virginia's property crime rate has fallen. The Old Dominion State went from 18.0 property crime incidents per 1,000 in 2019 to 16.7 in 2020 and 16.4 this year.
Daily worry about crime and safety jumped 17 percentage points in Virginia this year. With 57% of survey respondents telling us they are highly concerned about safety every day, Virginia is the ninth-most-worried state.
That high level of concern is surprising given Virginia's solid track record of low crime rates. Despite more daily concern about crime and safety, 78% of Virginians feel safe in their state, giving Virginia the third-highest positive response rate in the country.
Just saw the first Youngkin commercial, and to no surprise, it's anti-McAuliffe.
And to even less surprise, it reeks of GOP bullshit.
Youngkin ties McAuliffe to rising crime rates in new ads
Virginia GOP gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin’s campaign is tying his Democratic opponent, Terry McAuliffe, to rising crime rates in two new ads, as Republicans across the country seize …thehill.com
"He wants to defund the police!"
"He wants to abolish ICE!"
"He wants to close prisons!"
It ends by saying he's "too dangerous for Virginia". Yeah, that is not going to be very effective in a blue state like Virginia.
Nevertheless, McAuliffe's response?
The best way to defend yourself against the GOP's "they're defunding the police" bullshit is having the police themselves do it for you. lmao
That said, his "crime rates are rising" talking point is a lie. Homicide rates and hate crime rates are increasing, but everything else went down in 2020, compared to the year before. Overall, there has been less crime, not more of it.
Virginia sees reduction in violent crime, according to state report
Overall, according to state police, Virginia experienced a 1.9 percent decrease in violent crime offenses in 2020 compared to 2019.www.wdbj7.com
As for this year, it's kind of wishy-washy.

I think the only reason Youngkin's even using crime as a talking point is because of this:
Will it work? Well, he still hasn't led in any polls so far. So...at the moment, it hasn't. But we'll see.
As for polling right now, it's all over the place (like usual with Virginia governor races). Lots of partisan crap, but:
Roanoke College Poll: McAuliffe Up 8 Points (46%-38%); Ayala Up 6 Points (42%-36%); Herring Up 8 Points (45%-37%)
It's been months, but we finally have an independent, non-Republican/non-Youngkin public poll (as opposed to all the Republican "internals," etc.) of the Virginia governor's race. Check out the new Robluevirginia.us
That poll has the GOP approval rating at 29% and Dems at 41%. 50% hate the GOP and 44% hate Dems. Northam has a 52% approval rating.
I do admit I'm nervous about Virginia's elections coming up this year. In 3 months, it'll be time to find out if Virginia's blue trifecta will hold. Hopefully, it does.
Especially dumb when he's already been governor in Virginia and you know, didn't blow up the state.
Will this go past the CA Supreme Court? It's not a US Constitution issue.Unfortunately I have a feeling it will be appealed up to the Supreme Court who will side with Uber, Lyft, Doordash, etc. I blame fellow Californians for voting yes on Prop 22 by a large margin. Good job y'all.

Yeah this falls under an explicit state issue so it can't be appealed above state level courts. It's a state law issue involving the state constitution. So odds are good on this staying overturnedWill this go past the CA Supreme Court? It's not a US Constitution issue.
They did delete their twitter account after the GOP clown candidate tagged it. And they put out a statement:
Social media reacts strongly after Mandel highlights worker at Perrysburg restaurant
Inside the Five released a statement saying it's 'disappointing' a worker came in feeling ill and sent her home, saying it has health and safety protocols in place.www.wtol.com
The worker mentioned that her voice sounded nasally from a cold, restaurant management said, and she has been instructed to not return to work until she has been tested. Management further said that employees are instructed to never come to work with any symptoms of an illness and that the brewpub is strict with health protocols. The brewery issued a statement to WTOL 11 on Friday afternoon:"This is so disappointing. Last week we sent a message to our staff saying that they should report any symptoms, big or small, to a manager, and not come to work. And no one should just assume it's allergies or a cold. Although our server's intentions were good, it was not the right decision and it will be addressed. Yes, we are short-staffed, but would close our doors before we put anyone at risk. The employee has since been sent home."
What a little fucking dipshit. He knows he's trolling the feds now.
Richard Engel, who I sort of respected as a neutral war correspondent, had a case of brain worms suddenly

2 day shipping my friend. What'll happen is Uber will just re-do the prop w/out the really dumb 7/8 voting requirement to change any kind of laws relating to rideshares and just pass the prop again.
Unfortunately, people don't think of Uber drivers or Doordash delivery folks as people under the yoke of an evil corporation, especially since everybody likely has one person in their soical media circle hyping it up about how fun it is. People think yes, stronger worker rights might be necessary for a mine or even working at McDonald's, but Uber or Doordash or any of those jobs are seen as jobs you choose to take, not ones you are forced to take by your financial position.
Remember, something like 70-80% of the population has a positive impression of Amazon, something you'd never bet looking at Twitter or forums like this when it comes to them.

In one of the most eye-popping arguments in a flurry of motions to toss the case against him, former "19 Kids and Counting" star Josh Duggar claimed on Friday that his child pornography charges must be dismissed because the investigation into him began under a Department of Homeland Security then-run by leaders "unlawfully" appointed by former President Donald Trump.
When federal agents started looking into Duggar in 2019, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) was under the control of Acting Secretary Kevin McAleenan, and the probe continued into the tenure of Acting Secretary Chad Wolf. The Government Accountability Office later found that Trump appointed both men unlawfully, circumventing the normal process of congressional approval. Federal judges later ruled similarly, invalidating some of the agency's actions under their control.
That is one of gambits floated by Duggar's defense team in its efforts to scuttle accusations that the embattled reality TV star received and possessed a horrendous collection of dozens of photographs and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children "as young as toddlers." An HSI agent testified during Duggar's bond hearing that one of the videos, "Daisy's Destruction," was one of the "Top Five Worst of the Worst" that he ever had to examine because it depicted the assault of an 18-month-old girl.

Doing a deal with the Taliban seems like a massive thing.I find the media coverage stats a bit misleading.
Of course they wouldn't cover it over the past few years--it was relatively stable with not a lot of news happening. A troop pullout is a huge change that upset the stability of the entire country.
I firmly believe American media is garbage and wants chaos, but there is a legitimate reason they didn't give it air time and that's because there wasn't much newsworthy.
That's his fiancee, right?
With just three days left before New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's planned resignation, the embattled governor seemed determined not to go out quietly—though instead of appearing himself, he had his few remaining surrogates go on the offense for him.
On Friday afternoon, Cuomo's personal attorney Rita Glavin was dispatched to once again attack the women who said they were sexually harassed by Cuomo, while his senior advisor Richard Azzopardi penned an op-ed claiming Cuomo was being railroaded.
Glavin, who is being paid from Cuomo's campaign coffers, appeared in a 20-minute-long Vimeo video (no longer broadcasting from the official state website), and demanded certain corrections made to the State Attorney General's 165-page report which detailed how the governor sexually harassed 11 women.
That was covered in the media and also didn't result in a shift in stability in the country itself at the time.
As mentioned, it was barely covered. And it did signal a shift in negotiating with a group that gave safe shelter to those that directly attacked the US. Obama doing the same thing would have gotten him skewered with round the clock coverage. That was covered in the media and also didn't result in a shift in stability in the country itself at the time.
A cadre of journalists who have built their careers covering absurd wars are facing a collective existential crisis because they are face to face with the absurdity and cannot look away.
It also feels like the American media is placing almost zero blame or fault on the pathetic way the Afghan government and military that we supplied and trained for decades just gave up and let it all happen. So many hot takes on TV about Biden's role in the messy pullout as if he was personally responsible for drawing up the plan and doesn't just sit there and listen to the fucking pentagon and nod his head. They should be the ones explaining what led to afghans clinging to planes.
