I mean, I shit on rose Twitter a lot because many of them are misinformed and get outraged at the wrong things. I probably lean more to the left than a lot of posters in this thread but I get really annoyed by rose Twitter.

One thing that annoys me the most is how quick they are to turn on someone that should be their ally. Look at Elizabeth Warren and how quickly they turned on her, and after Bernie Sanders she is the closest we have to an actual progressive in the Senate. But she's an enemy to rose Twitter because of the Dem primary.

A lot of rose Twitter has zero idea how government actually works. They make up all these fantasy scenarios in their head and when they don't come to fruition, they get upset.

Rose Twitter reminds me of what Hilary Clinton said about Bernie in the Dem primary about how he is bad at forming coalitions. Rose Twitter is exactly the same way. They'll turn on you in a heartbeat if you don't say the right thing. Look at how they turned on AOC when she came out said how Medicare for all is the final goal but we may need to start with a public option first. Instantly she was labeled as selling out and a traitor to the movement.

I say all of this as a bleeding heart progressive. Rose Twitter is obnoxious and, in my opinion, does more harm than good to the progressive movement.
This is bang on and part of the reason I'm having a harder and harder time engaging politics discussions outside of this thread.

Trump was particularly upset to learn Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Tom Hanks and other stars agreed to perform for Biden's inaugural when Hollywood celebrities shunned him in 2016.

You're a progressive, but are you a socialist? I don't really keep tabs on rose Twitter, but I know they're socialists.

I see a lot of people, ranging from marginally left-of-center liberals to progressives, fall into this trap where they assume that, as long as we're all voting democrat, we share largely the same worldviews and goals, and that our disagreements are primarily down to methods and details. But I think our differences are, in most respects, largely irreconcilable with those of people who support, believe in, or want to "fix" capitalism. I think keeping that at the forefront of your mind is vital when trying to engage with socialist discourse.

I am quite left, but I have worked in layers of politics long enough that disowning people and shouting memes on Twitter as soon as everything doesn't happen ASAP in exactly the same way it was originally planned isn't an effective way to get change.

My critique isn't that rose Twitter and the likes aren't often right, it's that it's unrealistic in its demanded paths to arrive. Most of the time I push back with "how do you expect them to do that?" I am met with "I'm not a politician, it's not my job to figure it out!" Which is basically saying "I have no clue, butI want it!"

There just has to be some ability to demand more and critique, but doing so in a way that recognizes the reality of the political landscape.

Fox News won't be going in as hard on Biden as they did with Obama because he's a white man.

100% Agree and one of the reasons I find political discourse so unpleasant. They're ideologues which makes them hard to work with since they focus more on the ideology of how things get done than them getting done at all. The Medicare example you listed is one such example.

Jeff Zeleny @jeffzeleny

NEW: President Trump recorded a farewell address from the White House on Monday, CNN has learned, offering a list of accomplishments from his four years in office. It was a taped valedictory message from the State Floor of the residence, which could be released Tuesday.

Any such country would be a banana republic living on Texas' Oil&Gas industry. If the market for that collapsed (as it often does), they'd be fucked hardcore
On the other hand, removing Texas's electoral votes would basically mean guaranteed democratic victories. Hmmm....
filibuster may outright die, but i bet democrats put the 'show yourself and stand there' type of filibuster in first. gives them a little bit of cover for not completely blowing it up, and it also forces senators to come out against popular things if they actually do plan on standing in the way.
Yeah, some form of that is basically the guaranteed attempted solution. They don't have the votes for an outright nuking, but they really don't need to do an outright nuking.

I'm half hoping TX really does secede somehow only to quickly realize they're just a new country with a 50/50 partisan split lol. Will the rural areas really like the liberal cities dominating their economics?

I am so glad I don't have to listen to my aunt watch Fox News on full blast daily anymore. That shit made my blood boil just hearing it and I had to endure the pin for a month.

So, departing presidents usually leave behind encouraging letters to the next president, I wonder what trump's letter to Biden will be like...

I don't believe he's been charged in federal court. Maybe he will be, since he brought the gun across across state lines, and then went back to Illinois. But AFAIK he's only facing Wisconsin state charges — not that I don't assume some future awful Wisconsin Republican Governor won't pardon him.

A couple options...
1) A signed copy of the New York Post issue with the Hunter Biden emails story
2) An electoral map with Arizona, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and George scratched out with a Sharpie
3) A colored map showing the election results by land rather than population/state
4) A handwritten note from Putin

So glad we aren't dealing with a second Trump inauguration.... I can't even fathom at this point the vitriol and madness. Probably one of the greatest dodges we've ever had. Maybe this is where merge back into the correct timeline...

Will Biden sanitize and replace every damn thing in the WH?

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/ahe...cts-reveal-white-house-deep/story?id=75253472

According to government contracts reviewed by ABC News, more than $200,000 has been spent for increased White House janitorial and housekeeping work, including $127,249 on "2021 Inaugural Cleaning" and another $44,038 on "Inaugural carpet cleaning." There was $29,523 spent for "Inaugural curtains cleaning."

While the White House is always deep-cleaned during the transition between presidents, that work is usually handled by White House staff, including butlers, ushers and maintenance crews. Contracting out additional cleaning services is unprecedented in modern times, according to Kate Brower Andersen, presidential historian and former White House reporter.

So uh, out of morbid curiosity...

Has there been any talk concerning reforms to the Postal Service to ensure that any sabotage like DeJoy did doesn't happen again (Not without a fight at least), and to repair the damage that has been done to the USPS over the past 20 years so that it can get back to being self-funding again without having to resort to the absurd austerity that the Right demands of it?

Just getting rid of the insane "Have 70 years worth of pension payments in reserve" rule that got put in place during the Bush Admin would be a major step forward on it's own - Why wasn't that on the agenda during the Obama years anyway? Was that some Bi-Partisan bullshit or something?

Just curious because everything I hear concerning the new Admin's agenda right now concerns short-term problems that I'd expect them to be handling as a bare minimum.
He's gonna have to reset the entire government like a god damn router I do not envy that task. I'm pretty sure they'll do it at some point

Posting to subscribe.

Also it's hilarious that Trump is completely incapable of doing a Live speech anymore because he might incriminate himself or incite another riot. I don't think I've ever seen so many taped/heavily edited video speeches by a President before.

Do we have a gif of that climactic scene from Majora's Mask by the way? The Moon/Trump precariously close to dropping on Clock Town/The Capitol and then Link/Biden, accompanied by Tatl/Harris, plays the fittingly named Oath to Order. Cue the Four Giants to the rescue (= Abrams, Warnock, Ossof; not sure who should be the fourth there)... Because this very much needs to be a thing.

headline is bad -- but can we stop shitting on rose twitter please? how come whenever a person with a reasonable take that so happens to have a rose in their name (a symbol of the DSA, ya know the people we're with) we tend to shit on them relentlessly? why do we consistently shit on actual leftists in this thread sometimes?
its so bizarre
Red Rose Twitter is an entirely different thing than actual DSA folks who deserve to be taken seriously. I'm pretty sure very few of the dirtbag leftists on Twitter who use roses in their handles have any actual involvement in DSA.

I will make it absolutely clear when I'm actually calling out real DSA folks, which I occasionally do, but not often. (It's usually on housing issues.) But when I shit on Red Rose Twitter, that shouldn't be interpreted as shitting on DSA or leftists in general.

Apologies for any confusion.

Part of DC is a fortress right now: bridges closed, MARC rail and Metro service shut down, road closures, check points... I hope I never see anything like this ever again.
And it's all Donald Trump's fault.

Bill Barr says Trump's election fraud claims 'precipitated' Capitol riot

Bill Barr says Trump’s election fraud claims ‘precipitated’ Capitol riot in his first TV interview since resigning as Attorney General Barr has given an interview to the UK’s ITV News, the first since he left office Trump’s claims Presidency was ‘stolen’ from him ‘precipitated’ DC riots, he said...

Barr's first interview since leaving, and he specifically states that Trump and his insistence on voter fraud was responsible for the capital riot.

Going to be hard to defend that your own AG blames you in an impeachment trial. Also going to be hilarious to see republicans try to brush that damning evidence off as nothing.

Barr trying to rehab his image after he politicized the DoJ and stood by Trump until almost the very end. Yuck.
