This is my favorite part of the Rudy/Borat thing, from an article in the Guardian that someone one Twitter linked:

Word of the incident first emerged on 7 July, when Giuliani called New York police to report the intrusion of an unusually-dressed man.

"This guy comes running in, wearing a crazy, [snipped by RetroMG] outfit," Giuliani told the New York Post. "It was a pink bikini, with lace, underneath a translucent mesh top, it looked absurd. He had the beard, bare legs, and wasn't what I would call distractingly attractive.

"This person comes in yelling and screaming, and I thought this must be a scam or a shakedown, so I reported it to the police. He then ran away," Giuliani said. The police found no crime had been committed.

Giuliani continued: "I only later realised it must have been Sacha Baron Cohen. I thought about all the people he previously fooled and I felt good about myself because he didn't get me."

Rudy.

Rudy.

IF YOU DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS HIM UNTIL LATER, HE GOT YOU.

I think Trump's gaffe about handwaving their flooding was more damaging if anything. I think it will help Biden get us the senate

This plus the billions in crop losses in the derecho are what will undo Ernst more than anything else. A GOP senator in a tough election fight should easily be able to secure fast, generous disaster relief from the President sharing the same party. Trump's admin is so biased to inaction that they can't even do that.

Giuliani continued: "I only later realised it must have been Sacha Baron Cohen. I thought about all the people he previously fooled and I felt good about myself because he didn't get me."

oh my gooses what an idiot

In keeping with the theme that the other side is always projecting when they attack, it's pretty fucking worrying that Rudy is pushing the 'Hunter had child porn on his laptop' angle so hard.

This Rudy shit is fucking hilarious. I'm crying laughing right now.

I think that spells the end of the Hunter Biden story.

Stepien and Trump are really exposing the rest of the GOP to a gigantic risk over the next four days-a debate performance, traditionally not a good look for Trump, a 60 minutes interview that turned a show once only appealing to the 4PM earlybird special crowd into must-see-TV, and unhinged rallies in between.

It's one of those things where maybe 10% of the time these things have upside for Trump and are the start of a series of events that don't have enough time to materialize into momentum, but the other 90% of the time it goes terribly for them and Trump last-minute craters even harder, taking down GOP incumbents with him.

Just seems really risky, but Trump isn't a creature of the party so they are willing to do it.

I'm trying to game out the damage control from this one. I'm expecting a ton of "She doesn't look 15." and "The actress is 24." and a little bit of screaming about entrapment. I love this scandal to death. It's hilarious and awful. The only thing I don't like about this is that it encourages the Jacob Wohls of the world to keep trying their shit.

That Texas poll... I never saw Beto that close.

LOL At Rudy, that will just control the news cycle until the Debate and then 60 mins.

Meantime, people are still voting en masse and only a couple of news cycles are left.

Not much time left to peddle Hunter Biden Bullshit.

There's also that even after he realized who SBC was, he still apparently didn't really process that the woman was in on it. That was just normal, expected behavior from her in her position in that situation, apparently.

Like there's a lot of immediate shock and humor in it, but it also points at some deeper issues running through the conservative media ecosystem.

As expected, Mitch McConnell's $500 billion covid proposal is filibustered in the Senate on a 51-44 vote (it needed 60 to advance). Negotiations between Pelosi and Mnuchin continue for a bipartisan plan, which Trump and Democrats favor but Senate Republicans mostly oppose.

It's all a wash til Jan I would imgine, McConnell already stated in closed door meetings as much and all of this seems like dumb theater to play out in front of a struggling country. Just shameful.

Also Borat stuff is absolute peak 2020

GREAT high quality state polls today.

All consistent with a double digit Biden lead nationally.

IOWA still has one or two polls with Trump +1, so I'm not so confident it's in the bag. What's the undecideds and NPA leaning?

Trump won the state by almost 10 points in 2016.

The fact that it is even a tossup at this juncture is amazing news for the Biden campaign. If it's close at all, it does not bode well for Trump on election day.

It's not stated that she is "15" until the end of the scene.

Nothing comes of this but everyone laughing at Rudy and the dumbass laptop stunt being even more worthless.

Florida Early Voting Statistics

Florida already has votes for over 25% of registered voters. If the turnout rate is consistent with previous years at... 75% (wow, that's a lot for American standards) we could be looking at 35% of votes in the state already cast.

538 gives Biden a 70% to win FLA.

Does anyone feel that confident about FLA? What does the early voting data indicate (as much as one can infer anything when analyzing early voting)?

Guardian story reports that police didn't find any crime to have occurred in the Rudy story.
I believe they were saying the police didn't find Cohen to have committed any crime after Rudy called the cops on him. They weren't responding to any allegations against Rudy.

(Since the actress in question is an adult and this was not part of some kind of dateline sting operation, I sort of doubt they would find that Rudy did anything outright illegal. I also doubt that the actress introduced herself to him as a minor.)

Wohl is an amateur compared to Sacha Baron Cohen, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Early voting doesn't indicate a lot because Republicans are expected to make it up on November 3rd, but Democrats currently have a 480k lead in early voting, including in-person and mail.

Florida has been so historically unreliable that I'm just gonna assume it's going red. If it doesn't, that's a pleasant surprise. Thankfully, FL was never necessary for Biden's EC path.

And basically every political forecaster I follow has said "Seriously, don't read into early voting trends," so I've been avoiding them on purpose. No reason to get anxiety over something that historically isn't a reliable indicator of results.

I wonder if Beto takes a shot again against Cruz in 24 or if he goes up against Abbott for governor?

Name rec has been a hobble in the TX-SEN race and Cornyn ran a lot of ads earlier in the cycle to get a brand for his campaign set in.

It's like the opposite of what Dems did in Iowa, where they boosted Greenfield big time in the primaries and she went straight into the general election with a defined brand and name rec from all the ads that were spent.

re: Florida - Trump lost his edge w/ seniors and is getting absolutely blown the fuck out in the suburban sprawl counties. He literally needs every white male in the panhandle to have their truck start up on election day, and let me tell you as a decade+ Leon county resident a while back that would NEVER happen.

Florida will be decided by the 4 million non affiliated voters. Based on 2018, the majority should go to Biden which means he will win florida. I'm also betting Biden siphon a healthy amount of registered Republicans as well (elderly, women, never Trumpers) which you have no way of knowing in early voting.

Fair points all.

We'll know the outcome of FLA on election night, yes?

If FLA is called for Biden I can go to bed peacefully. Biden would be president.
